One king size, dragon roll bed set. This was the hardest thing I've ever folded. I had to lay them out on the floor and roll them. The top sheet was like 10 feet long when rolled up. These were hatched for 72 hours in muck. The one pillow totally has a face like a raccoon or something. Progress on this quilt has been slow since I work on it in small chunks in between other projects. I've been waiting for supplies to arrive so I picked it up again and seem to be in a good groove. After an exciting week of learning to ice dye from the marvelous Julie of @consistentlydifferentdesigns , I’m drafting a new dress from two of the pieces I dyed. I’ve cut an empire waist bodice but didn’t want to look pregnant so I’ve created pleats and stitched them down to create some shape once the skirt is attached to the bodice. This linen moves a lot so to make it more stable before creating the pleats, I sprayed it liberally with spray starch and then let it dry. Worked like a charm. The prompt for today is ‘favorite step’. I have to be honest I really love all the steps involved in making a quilt but I think perhaps my favorite step is fabric selection. The fabric pull can be tricky! It can be either spontaneous or it can take weeks. This series of quilts were made for our daughter @xo.losnow Lauren has a very good artistic eye and knows what she wants! The first quilt shown was made while she was still in high school and living at home. No pattern, no clue, but I have such fond memories of the two of us choosing the layout of these cheerful batik blocks - the fabric pull took weeks and weeks! This quilt has traveled with her all over the country. The next quilt I made for her was this pretty ombré #voyagequilt and for that one the fabric selection was easy - maybe a little too easy - I ordered a fabric kit for the first time ever! I must admit, sometimes it’s nice to have someone else make all the decisions for you! But then Lauren and @cam_snow got married and requested a wedding quilt for their home in Arizona and this time, much more typical for us, the fabric pull took forever to arrive at! All of the fabrics were ice dyed by me and I’m still not sure, even after loads of edits that I really gave her what was in her minds eye.
