Presentamos el caso de censura contra el cineasta Carlos Díaz Lechuga. Cineasta y escritor cubano graduado de Dirección por la #UniversidadDeLasArtes (ISA) y por la Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión de San Antonio de los Baños (@eictv_cuba). En cine, Lechuga ha realizado obras como Melaza (2012), Santa y Andrés (2016) y Vicenta B (2022); como escritor ha publicado múltiples artículos y relatos para medios internacionales, así como los libros En brazos de la mujer casada, Ni Santa, ni Andrés y Fuera de cuadro. Por su trabajo ha experimentado #censura por parte de las instituciones culturales, así como ataques descalificativos desde los medios oficialistas, en contubernio con el Departamento de Seguridad del Estado ( #DSE). Desde Melaza (Premio Especial del Jurado en la XII Muestra de Jóvenes Realizadores, 2013), Lechuga encontró la desaprobación velada de @cubacineicaic, así como presiones de comisarios en forma de llamadas telefónicas. A pesar de sus premios internacionales, #Melaza apenas fue proyectada en el circuito cinematográfico nacional. En 2016, comienza un nuevo ciclo de censura, contra Lechuga por su próxima película Santa y Andrés, así como contra Delfín Prats, el poeta cubano en el que se basa la historia. El realizador experimenta en esa fecha el #acorralamiento directo de la Seguridad del Estado, agentes que lo visitan en su vivienda y amenazan con su familia provocándole un estado de tensión #psicológica que le duraría varios años. Específicamente, Lechuga y su entonces productora y esposa #Claudia Calviño, fueron citados varias veces por Abel Prieto (@AbelPrieto11), entonces Ministro de Cultura, para ser presionados por el abordaje de la fig. de #FidelCastro en el filme. Además, Lechuga sufrió continua vigilancia, evasión en espacios culturales, así como segregación social. Colegas extranjeros como Jonathan Jakubowicz también sufrieron ostracismo por parte de las autoridades cubanas. Durante su recorrido por el circuito internacional de exhibición y concurso, la película también fue censurada en eventos como el Habana Film Festival de New York ( #HFFNY) o el Festival de Punta del Este (Uruguay). While the 23rd Havana Film Festival NY is scheduled to return the Spring of 2024, we couldn’t bring ourselves to fully skip this year’s festival altogether with so many talented filmmakers and stories to share- so we found the perfect solution: a 5-day mini-festival this May. Presented in partnership with the Instituto Cervantes NY, CCNY, the Consulate General of Argentina in NY, and the Quad Cinema, the HFFNY Spring Showcase (May 18, 22-25) offers a cinematic tasting menu of everything we love about the film worlds of Cuba and Latin America.
