We are feeling very chuffed with ourselves this evening….every baby salad leaf, microgreen and sprout in tonights dinner was grown from seed by us 💚 . We will soon be able to grow these delicate salad greens for you all year round, vertically in just a few square feet in our home, using no nasty herbicides, pesticides or artificial fertilisers. . In this salad bowl is all the nutritious goodness of: Mini romaine, rocket, chard, spicy and earthy baby salad leaves. Broccoli, red sorrel and radish microgreens. Alfalfa, red clover and kohlrabi sprouts 🌱 . So tasty it didn’t need anything else with it other than some feta cheese, a squeeze of lemon and a pinch of salt. . As fresh as you can get and it looked so pretty too ! We spread our leftover microgreen roots and compost on to the field ready to be rotavated into the soil where we are preparing to grow this summer. . It was so great to meet Pat from Ocean Harvest, Jersey today. His knowledge of seaweed (or vraic as it’s known in Jerrais) is immense! I learned about the full moons and the spring tides and about brown, red and green algae, and how to steep them to create a nutrient dense liquid to naturally support growing. Pat kindly left me with some different varieties of local seaweed to try including Carageen (aka Irish Moss), Lanoso (the truffle of the sea) and Pepper Dulse (a red edible algae with a peppery flavour).
