My first cucumber from the garden! The cuke plants had a hard time this season as they were the preferred food of the groundhog that was living in my yard. At long last, my #clematis bloomed! We had a beautiful one a decade+ ago until our upstairs neighbor's boyfriend killed it in 2014 in white-washing the property for their sale in 2015 (ironically, they sold in the blizzard of 2015 so no one could see their bullshit efforts). I couldn't bring myself to pay $25-30 for a new plant, so in late 2019, I took a cutting of a local plant and rooted it over the winter. I planted it in 2020. It had a year or two of flowering before our new downstairs neighbor took a hatred to it and everything vine-like on our property coupled with it being tasty to rabbits which did it in as well. I ended up moving it into the garden at the end of last year so said neighbor couldn't cut the stem, and when I fenced it in, the bunnies couldn't reach it either. My #nasturtium plants got mostly razed by my groundhog that was getting over my 3 foot tall chickenwire fence. I evicted him on July 26th, and my nasturtiums (and cucumber) plants are beginning to come back with new growth. It's been a weird year for the Hellebores -- usually it's the first thing flowering every year, but this year the crocuses won out. The plants were doing well until that last brutal cold snap which killed off all of its greenery (that damage has been pretty rare in the last several years). This vine was planted a little over 17 years ago along our fence separating our front walk from the yard. This was another thing our downstairs neighbor tried to eradicate by cutting down. However, he left the root mass and it grew back.
