Choosing to leave everything and everyone behind and move across the country, isn't easy. Living nomadically, in a city without remote income, isn't easy. There are so many things I have learned over the last 2 months since moving into the bus with Chris, his kid, and my dog. We live in a 6 window converted school bus in Colorado. Our view in the city is mountains daily, but we both have jobs that require us to be in person, so traveling has been put on hold for now until we have remote income. Being in a city is tough, we talk to the cops pretty regularly because people will call the police on us if we are parked for too long in one place. We are very excited to announce Alex Hough as the Jay's new Executive Chef. His enthusiasm and excitement for creative food and superior service are contagious. We wanted Alex to share a little about himself so read on to learn more: I started working in the restaurant business when I was 8 years old. When I was 10, I took cooking classes from Chef Gregory (one of the major sources for “The Joy of Cooking '' cookbook). After high school, I moved to Seattle Washington and attended Seattle University and Washington State University’s Culinary Arts and Restaurant Management program. At this time, I was the sous chef at Henry's Off Broadway, a 4 star restaurant. After college I opened my first restaurant in La Conner, Washington. Soon after I had the opportunity to go to Europe to attend culinary classes. I studied at The Cordon Bleu in Paris and the Escoffier in Madrid. I became the corporate chef for Cafe Hollywood opening 9 restaurants in Spain, and then I became the Executive Chef to the ambassador of the United States in Madrid cooking for such dignitaries as Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Anwar Sadat, Mienokum Begin,the King and Queen of Spain, among many others. I am really excited to be leading the culinary team at such a beautiful and reputable restaurant. I have always believed that selecting the best ingredients is one of the keys to creating flavors that jump off the palette; and make one feel “ahhhhh” and “Wow” at the same time.. I believe that to enjoy food fully, is to smell it…., see it…., and taste it. Creating new menu items for the menu, I will take what I have lived, and learned, to bring you a dining experience you will remember for years to come. Oh, and I have a secret, but you can’t tell my wife……my first love is FOOD. Bon appetit!!!
