Today I am posting a video from the last day of Magic Kingdom’s Country Bear Jamboree. I was joined with a whole theater of super fans, and it was WILD! Here’s some facts about the show’s 52 year history: . In the backstory Ursus H. Bear gathered up his friends and family to present a musical hoedown at Grizzly Hall, established in 1898. Ursus (Latin for bear) lived from 1848-1928 according to his portrait above the stage. . The theater has 5 stages and features 18 bears. . Several minutes were cut out of the show in 2012, but if you want to see the original show, it is on my channel. . “My Woman Ain’t Pretty (But She Don’t Swear None)” is a 1953 Tex Ritter song, who voiced Big Al, and is John Ritter’s dad. . The piano playing bear Gomer has no speaking lines. . “Fractured Folk Song” and “Pretty Little Devilish Mary” were cut in 2012, but oddly not “Mama, Don’t Whip Little Buford”. Haha. . It’s been just over a week since the Country Bear Jamboree began its hibernation to make way for the new Country Bear Musical Jamboree this coming summer. I’ve never seen Grizzly Hall so full for a performance until this final day, and the last performance I saw before the Bears decided to start their hibernation a little early was SO much fun. Over fifty-two years after its debut, the one and only original Country Bear Jamboree played its final performances in Magic Kingdom's Grizzly Hall last Friday night. Although this sordid assortment of executioners of music and song went out in an unexpected fashion, it was wonderful getting the opportunity to celebrate this incredible piece of WDI history along with generations of fans alike. Every performance throughout the evening was filled with people singing along, yelling comments, and cheering as loud as they could, and I loved every minute of it! This show and these beloved characters are the brainchild of one of my favorite artists/Imagineers, Marc Davis. He was both a master at bringing visual gags to life and the king of crafting unique personalities for every single character in his library. Being one of the few exclusive-to-Florida opening day attractions at the Magic Kingdom, the Country Bears have become true staple of Walt Disney World, and I beyond thrilled that this traveling band of outrageous hibernators will continue to entertain guests for years to come in the upcoming show! Finally, I want to thank the incredible Cast Members who were closing the jamboree that night. Their positivity and energy in the face of some enormous challenges was truly remarkable. Although there was never an intended "final show" for the Country Bears, it was because of these Cast Members that the final walkthrough of the theater felt like a proper send-off to this pillar of the Disney Parks experience. So, one last farewell goes out to the original Country Bear Jamboree. Happy summer! Today I am posting four songs I recorded back in Oct. 2000 from the extinct Country Bear Vacation Hoedown show at Disneyland. The Country Bear Jamboree was the first attraction to have its debut in Walt Disney World and then copied at Disneyland. It opened with the new Bear Country land on March 24, 1972. Guests were probably excited to see a new attraction at Disneyland since there was nothing new in 1970-1971. It opened as an “E” ticket attraction. After the success of the Country Bears at Magic Kingdom, Disneyland built two identical theaters to accommodate twice the capacity. From 1975-1990 the show was sponsored by Wonder Bread. In 1984 the Country Bear Christmas show debuted for the holiday season. At Disneyland the Country Bear Vacation Hoedown permanently replaced the original show in February 1986 and would run until September 9, 2001. I found more Country Bear photos in my files. Here’s a comparisons of the Bear Band portrait- DL on the left, WDW on the right. I have to say it’s not as stark a difference as the others have been. With the other portraits I posted, the DL versions usually were fully rendered, while the WDW versions were simpler paintings that relied heavily on linework.
