Meet Maxine: A Heartwarming Tale of Love and Triumph! Maxine came to Hart for Animals as one of two kittens with their mom, and she quickly stole our hearts. This little cuddlebug adored giving kisses and became a staff favorite in no time. While her mom and sister moved to a wonderful foster home, Maxine stayed with us, soaking up all the love from our team. She even hung out with us in the staff area all day! One day, we noticed Maxine was gaining a strange amount of weight around her belly. A vet visit confirmed our fears: she had wet FIP, a condition with no approved treatment at the time. The only option was a costly "black market" drug, and as a non-profit, we didn't have the funds to cover it. But I don't back down from a challenge! Meine Therapie zeigt ihre Wirkung denn meine Augen sehen prächtig aus auch kann ich wieder sitzen & ich wackle zwar immernoch sehr wegen meiner Ataxie , jedoch ist es möglich wieder alleine zu essen. Meine Freunde begleiten mich über jede Hürde, ohne die wäre ich nämlich ziemlich hilflos. Mir ging es gar nicht gut aber ich war auch niemals alleine, immer lag jemand von der Windelbande bei mir & sogar sauber gemacht haben sie mich weil ich nicht konnte. Sie sind ganz nah bei mir in jeder Situation & so ist der große Bär Milow sowas wie mein Ersatzpapa geworden & Peanut wie meine Mama , sie kuschelt mich ganz oft & dann darf ich mich auf sie legen zum kleinen Schläfchen aber die kleine Fluff hilft mir auch oft, sie spielt mit mir auch wenn ich nicht wegrennen kann ❤️ Meine Familie ist ganz großartig , die sind wie ihr da draußen & helfen sofort , dafür muss ich noch Danke mauzen ohne euch wäre meine Therapie nicht so schnell bezahlt gewesen & drum fühlt euch ganz arg angemauzt. Übrigens fresse ich momentan auch wie ein ganz Großer & lege damit an Gewicht zu. Until now, to save an FIP kitty, you had to buy Chinese knockoff medication in a smoky online back room. A 2019 study by Dr. Neils Pedersen showed 25 of 31 naturally infected FIP patients treated with GS-441524 survived to the publication of the research. Score one for we feline overlords-at least conditionally. While successful, Gilead Sciences never moved forward with approval of the drug for cats. Chinese drug companies couldn’t let a good opportunity pass; they manufactured their own GS-441524. Scoring the bootleg medication was like getting into a speakeasy and just as legal. Now she won’t eat when anybody else is around and La Princessa wants her little tent covered from above so she could have privacy when she lays down or when she eats. lol Did you ever? So as I write this, she has not received the injection yet, but we had a little play session and she was a happy camper. She was playing with Montana. But she kept looking at her tent like she wanted to go in. She’s going to get her injection soon and I wanted to see how she would react, so we covered the tent and lo and behold, she went back in. I cry when I see her play because she was so limp, nothing but skin and bones and to see all this now is truly a miracle. 🙏🏼💜🙏🏼 So please enjoy these cute pictures of my Velma playing and I’ll update after the injection. Tag 44 gegen FIP ! Da bei der letzten Blutuntersuchung die Entzündungswerte von Merlin viel zu hoch waren, waren wir heute nochmal in der Tierklinik um den SAA-Wert kontrollieren zu lassen. Gott sei dank ist dieser wieder im Normalbereich. Zusätzliche wurde nochmal ein Bauchultraschall gemacht, Merlin hat immer noch etwas frei Flüssigkeit im Bauch und seine Nierenbecken sind vergrößert, sowie konnte die Tierärztin noch eine Art Schatten auf/bei den Nieren erkennen. Sie geht durch die verbesserten Entzündungswerte erstmal nicht von einem Tumor aus, sondern von Symptomen durch die FIP verursacht. Wir müssen die Nieren einfach weiterhin regelmäßig kontrollieren und das beste hoffen. Des Weiteren hab ich mir in der Tierklinik nochmal eine Zweitmeinung bezüglich der gebrochene Pfote eingeholt. Um eine bessere Heilung zu erzielen wurde die Pfote jetzt dick gepolstert und verbunden. Hi everyone, my meomy has some news to share! On the 30th of April Milo was diagnosed with FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis). If you’ve never heard of FIP, that’s because its a rare disease that cats can get. FIP isn’t spoken about nearly enough and I would like to make all cat owners aware as I didn’t even know until Milo started showing signs and unfortunately, was almost fatal. FIP is the feline strand of Coronavirus that has mutated to become deadly. 80-90% of cats will get Coronavirus during their lifetime, but that doesn’t mean they are guaranteed to get FIP. 5% of those who are diagnosed with Coronavirus can have the Coronavirus mutate which is what happened to Milo. Once Coronavirus is in the cats system it is most important to keep them free from stress as this is one of the main causes of the mutation. Unfortunately, Milo suffered from high levels of stress during this time and as a result was diagnosed with FIP. There are two types of FIP; Wet and Dry. Milo has the wet FIP, which is more common of the two. Signs and symptoms of Wet FIP include: lethargy, loss of appetite, abnormal bloating of the belly, eye discharge/watery eyes and diarrhoea. Without the help of @fipca_inc , Milo would not have received the necessary medication and immediate course of action to combat FIP, and most likely would have not survived. Milo is now on a diligent treatment plan comprised of medication provided by FIP Cats Australia which he’s been taking for 2 weeks and has rapidly shown signs of improvement. Without having contacted FIP Cats Australia within 3 days of Milo having shown these signs and symptoms, the outcome potentially could have been fatal. Last week my husband and I found this stray kitty, now named Theo, lying on the ground near our house. He couldn't see, he was unable to walk, and he had a large distended belly. Cut to many hours at the vet later, he was diagnosed with wet #fip and, thankfully, we were able to get the life-saving medicine GS-441524 less than 24 hours after he was diagnosed. In the past week, Theo has regained his vision and ability to walk. His levels are improving daily. His mood, however, leaves a lot to be desired. To say he is spicy is an understatement 🤣 It now takes 3 people to give him his medicine. The vets and I are unsure what to do with Theo going forward. We want him to get well, of course, but he seems more feral by the day. In ideal circumstances I would try to find someone to foster or adopt him. I would normally TNR a feral cat, but that's obviously not going to be possible with Theo because of his illness and because he needs to receive treatment for 2 whole months. My husband, kitties, and I are moving to a different country in less than 2 months! We will take Theo with us if we can't find an alternative, but he will need to undergo quarantine in the country we are moving to and, ultimately, I am afraid it will make everyone miserable, Theo and our other cats especially, for him to be a house cat if he is feral. #fipwarrior friends, have you had any experience treating a feral kitty? 🚨Bodhi Update: Bodhi had his sutures removed and some scab build up cut back on Monday. He wore his cone for a couple more days but he is now cone free as his incision site is healing up really well.😄🙏 He has also finished all his antibiotics and pain medication. I am very happy to report that Bodhi is doing really incredible. ❤️ He's active, alert, curious and playful. He's adapted so well to having one eye and is able to run and jump around with ease. He's also got a strong appetite and his temperature has been normal for over a week, so I don't have to take his temperature daily anymore - we are both very happy about this. 😅 He's back to himself - minus his left eye. With that said, he is still on the daily FIP medication capsules for atleast just over another 2 months. Along with that he is getting regular bloodwork done, daily weight checks and close monitoring. So we still have a ways to go but I'm so thankful that he seems to be responding well to the treatment and hope it continues on this way. So far, we have been able to raise $2,750 out of the goal of $3,500 to help cover Bodhi's life-saving FIP treatment.
