🍗 If your child is refusing meat, try this 🍗 You’ve probably tried adding sauces, chopping up the meat into teeny tiny pieces and hiding it in their foods… is none of it working? Here are some things you can do: 1.If you think the texture of meat is the issue, experiment with different textures. Try meatballs, patties, or shredded meat in tacos or sandwiches. 2.Get your child more familiar with the meat. Educate your child on where the food comes from and ask them how it feels to touch, how it smells and what it feels like in their mouth. 3.Focus on other protein-rich foods. Whilst it’s a good idea to keep offering meat to your child, also experiment with non-meat foods to ensure they’re getting enough protein in their diet. Some examples include: 🥚 Eggs 🫘 Beans 🥛 Dairy products 🥜 Nut butters Here are some simple ideas for meals that don’t include meat but are high in protein: 😋 Greek yoghurt with chia seeds and berries 😋 Peanut butter and banana on toast 😋 Creamy lentil pasta And if you’re feeling a little more adventurous: 😋 Lentil veggie nuggets! 😋"Breakfast pizzas" with cheese, eggs, and vegetables for a morning twist. The amazing spread for the Celebration of Life for dear Nancy Padilla. The menu was very carefully planned by daughter,Raney, to include her favorite things and executed by all of us. Oysters on the half shell, a magnificent shrimp tower,gravlox, made by Jonathan, smoked trout dip, with trout Raney smoked herself, and of course Nancy’s clam dip featured in Bon Appetit. My contribution was Nancy’s red chili chicken that was her go to entertaining dish served with a green mango salad. Because Raney wanted it to be all finger food, the chicken was served on fried tortilla rounds with pickled red onions and a cilantro leaf. The salad was served in little lettuce cups topped with mango. It was all colorful and very tasty. Oh my, I forgot the caviar pie! A new must have favorite. It was five days of dear friends and family feasting and celebrating the well lived life of our dear friend. This makes them easier foods to eat for children with sensory sensitivities. 3.They’re typically a “safe food” as they're always the same whether its a Monday in May or a Friday in December. Young children can develop a fear of trying new foods. When going through this phase, they tend to opt for familiar beige foods as their “safe foods”. So how do you encourage your child to eat a variety of colourful fruits, vegetables, and other nutrient-rich foods 🍅🥕🫐.... instead of just chicken nuggets, pasta and cereal? ➡️Lead by example. Children often mimic the behaviour of adults. ➡️Present fruits and vegetables in colourful and visually appealing ways. ➡️Take them grocery shopping and let them choose fruits and vegetables. ➡️Get your child involved in the prep when cooking. ➡️Pair with familiar foods.
