A truly amazing and unforgettable experience this was, glad I decided to spend the night here rather than day trip it. Allowed me to spend a lot more time exploring the glacier trying to find ice tunnels, couldn't find any big enough to walk around in but plenty that I could crawl in lol. Easily the most waterfalls in one place I've seen so far. The hike was a lot more exhausting then I expected but easily worth it for views like this. Photos and videos honestly do no justice for just how beautiful this place was. 25/01/2023 - 26/01/2023 - Earnslaw Burn Track 🏔️ So I made a list of 10 tramps I wanted to do this summer, not at all realising how much harder tramping tracks that aren't Great Walks, are! I think it's the hours of walking per day more than anything else - although I will say that this one required a lot of climbing over & crawling under, fallen trees! & it was muddy! The valley at the end of it, though... WOW! If you want to do this one; I would urge you to stay for 2 nights to give you time to really explore & experience it. 📍 Earnslaw Burn Track, part 2. As we made our way further up the track we began to encounter more windfall and sections that were steep and challenging - think walking along the edge of a drop off on a skinny piece of scree track. A lot of this track is actually walking along the edge of a steep drop off and I found that I spent a lot of time concentrating on my feet. There was also a lot of using my hands for support involved moving forward as we navigated climbing over rocks, up tree root ladders, and down washed out drops. The Earnslaw Burn Track undulates up and down, and while a lot of reviews I read said that this was boring and repetitive, I really enjoyed the opportunity to soak in the forestry. 📍 Earnslaw Burn Track, part 1. This journey started off with a perfectly sunny day! A break in the weather that we had been praying for all week, seeing as the forecast was not looking fabulous. As we inched closer to the weekend the forecast started changing for the better, but the night before we still had doubts. We needed it to be good all weekend seeing as we were planning to stay the night in the glacial valley in a tent. Waking up to sunshine skies and no sign of rain until at least Sunday afternoon, we were stoked! Packing up our things we made our way to Glenorchy to begin our adventure! This track started off with a decent climb through the forest on a well maintained track, with the burn (river) below popping into sight every now and then. Pirmoji diena - tik 21km bet pasiekiame 2275m aukštį🆙🏞️ Pradėjom ryte, pajudėjom apie 9h ryto. Pirmieji 10km jau žinomi iš praeito žygio Cascade saddle ir jie tokie nemalonūs nes eini per pelkę. Realiai ieškai sausų vietų...nepavyko, sušlapom batus, kad ir kiek stengiaus šokinėt, apeidinėt. Vėliau lengvas kilimas mišku. Pietaujame jau kirtę miško zoną, su slėnio vaizdu ir kalnais. Po pietų traukiam toliau. Daug ėjimo pieva, tik kad kilimas jau labai status. Vėliau prasideda akmenys ir uolos, todėl pasidaro sunkiau rasti kelią. Apie 6h vakaro pasiekiam ledyną. Matom Wrighton col perėja ir ant jos žmogų, kuris leidžiasi uolomis. Kol jis nusileido žemyn mes svarstėm ką daryt, eiti uolomis ar ledynu. Kates ir ledkirčius turim. Pasirodo, žmogelis yra mūsų draugo Arnes, kuris dabar viršuje yra, draugas. Pasišnekam, pataria eiti ledynu. Paklausom, dedames kates ir judam tolyn. Randam dar draugų pėdsakus. Pasiekiam perėją! Pasidarom porą nuotraukų. Ir žygiuojam link Esquilant hut'o, kur šiąnakt ten ir miegosim. Matėm pasakiškai gražų saulėlydį, dangus buvo raudonas raudonas! Priklausomai nuo pasirinktos nakvynės vietos, hikas gali trukti nuo 3.5h iki 5h. Mūsų planas buvo miegot kuo arčiau ledyno, ten kur patys geriausi vaizdai. Plius vienas draugas sakė tik nestokit iškart išėję iš miško, eikit toliau, ten bus daug gražiau. Bet, deja, teko stot tik išėjus iš miško, kadangi lygioj vietoj @vaidasjaz koją sugebėjo išsisukt. Žinai, kai eini 3.5h mišku be jokių vaizdų, o tada bam išlendi iš miško ir Mount Earnslaw prieš akis. Užsižiopsoji😅 Koja iškart ištino. Dar galvojom gal dar pavyktų grįžti visą kelią atgal. Bet turejom tik 3h šviesos, o su tokia koja atgal eisim žymiai ilgiau. Pasilikom campint. Aš dar greit sulaksčiau patikrint kaip tas ledynas su kriokliais atrodo. Gražu❤️🏔️ gaila, kad nepavyko ten campinti, kur norėjom. O ryte paršlubavom per 4h atgal iki mašinos. Tiksliau tikėjaus, kad užtruksim ilgiau, bet @vaidasjaz labai jau norėjo greičiau baigt šitą nenusisekusį žygį. Apsilankėm Emergency. EARNSLAW GLACIER (NZ) | Our first overnighter in NZ! Located an hour from Queenstown, the Earnslaw Burn Track is a very challenging day hike, or a slightly less challenging overnight hike to the Earnslaw Glacier in Mt Aspiring National Park, New Zealand. The trail is 26km there and back and climbs over 900m of elevation. The first 8.5km of this hike is through beautiful beech forest, before leaving the bush line and continuing a further 4.5km through the tussock valley and to the head of the glacier. The forest section is deceptively long with 500m of climb and frequent obstacles of fallen trees, landslides and creek crossings. It is as much a mental challenge as a physical one. But the pure serenity at end of the valley and getting your first glimpse of Earnslaw Glacier makes it all worth it. ->Link to watch in bio

Let’s talk about hikes baby 💪🏻 Starting with my most recent hike, the EARNSLAW BURN!! I mean if this picture doesn’t do it justice I’m sure this can help... Starting with a technical forest walk that lasts around 4/5 hours which includes many obstacles (see 4th photo) you finally break free, quote Troy Bolton, and get that perfect view you’ve worked so hard for! After lots of suggestions to camp outside the tree line we decided to do the total opposite🙄, and walk straight to the glacier with our heavy packs, just to make sure we didn’t miss the perfect camp spot. Once we got to the glacier and had a little explore, our legs were telling us it was time to set up camp for the night and have some well earned dinner. We found a perfect spot with an awesome view and an old fire. After struggling, but finally achieve to build a fire we were sorted for the evening. I have to say the stars, holy moly, quite possible the best I have seen whilst here, and that’s tough competition!! We were incredibly lucky with clear skies both of the days, it’s definitely worth checking and planning to do on a good day, as it was extremely swampy even with it being dry, along with it being a valley the weather can change very quickly. On the way back we decided to detour to find this amazing waterfall and boy was it worth it!! Then to our surprise 5 hours later we had the perfect view of flat land meaning we were back! I highly recommend this hike, it’s suggested it’s an advanced tramp which I would agree with. Thankfully not too much elevation but the forest hike does feel long and lots of effort but, very much worth it for the views at the end. The long ascent down from the McIntosh Hut actually started with a climb up onto a high ridge with amazing views in each direction! 🙌🏻 After traversing the ridge we soon began our steep decline which lasted several hours on a serious gradient. Miranda lost her phone 📱 on the descent which was luckily found later by another trekker who must have saw my details in her notifications and contacted me. New Zealand 🇳🇿 February 2021 Day 2 of our adventure into the Whakaari Conservation area above Glenorchy. The long ascent down from the McIntosh Hut actually started with a climb up onto a high ridge with amazing views in each direction! 🙌🏻 After traversing the ridge we soon began our steep decline which lasted several hours on a serious gradient. Miranda lost her phone 📱 on the descent which was luckily found later by another trekker who must have saw my details in her notifications and contacted me. Could not have had a better view from bed! The stars were so clear, the ice sounded like thunder as it crashed down in the middle of the night, my stomach was warm from the rehydrated mexican comida, and my feather sleeping bag kept me cozy. Took about 5 hours just to get into the valley, and the rest was timeless passing dozens of glacial waterfalls spilling over the cliffs into this basin. The water was so crisp and clear!
