After leaving the beautiful port town of Portoclom, you take a turn into what is a largely forgotten valley. It has always been a vegetable farming area and the village in which we are located, S’Horta, means “vegetable garden”. I think you don’t expect this scenery so close to great touristic infrastructure including a golf course and various shopping and dining facilities. The finca comprises four houses with six ensuite bedrooms. All of the bedrooms are very spacious and most have their own living area. Outside is a large patio with a dining and seating area featuring two massive couches. There’s plenty of space for large groups. Within our 8,000 square metres of outside space are a boule court, a sauna and a satellite outdoor kitchen, as well as a 7x15-metre swimming pool. We are also creating an orchard with orange and lemon trees. We are located in the southeastern part of Mallorca, which doesn’t have a lot of hotels and is more laid back compared to the west. There are lots of well-known restaurants nearby. Bona Taula is one of the most famous and has a big indoor fireplace — it’s beloved by locals. Restaurant Viena — Cas Concos is eight minutes away. Portocolom is the biggest natural harbour on the island and home to a charming fishermen’s village that’s not yet overrun with tourists. We are by the seaside, so the closest beach is just steps away. Horse-riding is a highlight for me and is available 20 minutes away from the property. Skyros is an island with its own character, combining elements from both the Sporades and the Cyclades (it is equidistant from both). It has two distinct beauties — one side features whitewashed houses and sandy beaches while the other is notable for its greenery and turquoise waters.

New this week: The Rock Cabins in Upper Balaton, Hungary welcomebeyond.com/the-rock-cabins/ We are an architecture company that has designed and built all kinds of structures, not only buildings but also installations and sculpture-like forms usually made of wood. We eventually turned towards hospitality and tiny cabins. After a while, we realised that the land where we hosted our building summits and camps for young people was perfect for glamping, so we built The Rock Cabins there. The site of The Rock Cabins used to be a village, so you can see the ruins of old buildings. It’s a great place to have fun with your loved one. There’s the jacuzzi and a comfortable bed and the feeling of intimacy far away from everything. You don’t feel as though there is another soul nearby. Aside from enjoying the facilities of their cabin, most guests go out to explore the Balaton region. Just a couple of kilometres from the property, you see mighty hills with vineyards and castles. Nearby is one of the best gourmet markets in Hungary, with handcrafted cheeses, marmalades and charcuterie. You can also go wine tasting at the nearby vineyards. And Lake Balaton is just 25 minutes away.

Architecturally, the building is very traditional, with wooden beams and clay used in its construction. On the interior design side of things, I tried to give it a contemporary twist. I used to call it an “Italian riad”, like the ones they have in Marrakech. It’s the same feeling. Locanda La Concia is located in Reggio Emilia, a small city between Milan and Bologna. The region is called Emilia-Romagna and is developing fast. We are located on a quiet street just a minute’s walk from one of the most beautiful plazas in the city. So you are near all the comings and goings but you can come back to a place of rest, away from the crowds. Within walking distance of Locanda La Concia are plenty of restaurants and shops.

New this week: Platanos Villa in Crete, Greece welcomebeyond.com/platanos-villa/ Platanos Villa is a peaceful, secluded oasis that blends into a dramatic backdrop of mountains overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. The view here never gets old. When staying at the villa, you feel like a king or a queen on a mountaintop and can experience beautiful summer days in complete privacy. The villa is situated in the countryside on the west coast of Crete, around eight minutes’ drive from the village of Platonos. The western side of Crete is the least developed part of the island. There are very few large hotels or clubs and just a few typical shops selling authentic products. Those who love beautiful beaches and hiking, as well as great restaurants and the occasional cocktail bar, will enjoy discovering the charm of this part of Crete. At the property, guests can swim in the infinity pool (9 x 3.5 metres). Bike rentals are available in Kissamos or you can go surfing, windsurfing and sailing along the coastline. Boat trips are also available, as are several hiking trails. The closest beach is at Falassarna, which is around 10-15 minutes’ drive from the house. Our favourite beach is Sfinari, at the westernmost point of Crete, but we also like Ravdoucha with its small pebble beach and cosy family restaurant.

The front door leads to a corridor with three bedrooms, all of which feature beautiful stone walls. Two of the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms while the other has access to a large, family bathroom just across the corridor. The corridor leads to the base of the church tower and if you look up, you can see all the way to the top. A spiral staircase leads up to the living and dining area where you’ll find a beautiful Bulthaup kitchen and a balcony. If you continue climbing up the tower, there’s a viewing platform with seating from where you can enjoy amazing views across the town and the surrounding hills. We are just 15 minutes’ drive from the iconic Gleneagles Hotel, which is famed for its golf courses and restaurants. Within walking distance of the apartment are several nice pubs and restaurants, including the Lalique Restaurant at the Glenturret Distillery, which is the world’s only Michelin-star restaurant at a distillery. We have a good relationship with them and can arrange tables when they might otherwise be booked out. Here, it is all about connecting with the outdoors, with great fishing, hiking and mountain biking in the area. We partner with Beyond Adventure, who will pick guests up from the apartment and take them up into the hills and access places you might not otherwise discover yourself. Around three or four miles from the property, you can rent bikes to explore the downhill trails or you can go hiking directly from the apartment. We’ve tried to create a place that allows people to relax and spend time together while celebrating the best of Cornwall. I love the peace and quiet here, and the views and sunsets are just amazing! There’s beauty all around you but it’s still very easy to get everywhere. May to October is the best time to visit. Because Cornwall is quite rural and has lots of wildflower meadows, spring is amazing. Summertime (July and August) is busy and warm for being at the beach. September is a lovely time in the post-school holiday period and the water is at its warmest. Because Cornwall is one of the mildest parts of the UK and stays relatively warm year-round, October is still a great time to visit, and there are various festivals throughout the year celebrating the region’s cultural heritage. The Cornish Place is on the skinny bit of Cornwall and just seven miles from both coastlines. The foodie hub of Falmouth is nearby and you can be at the beach or on the coast path in 15 or 20 minutes. At the beaches to the north, you can surf, while those to the south are usually calmer for paddle boarding and sailing.
