Rhinopias change their color through a process called physiological color change. They have specialized cells called chromatophores in their skin, which contain pigments that can expand or contract, altering the color and pattern of their skin. This allows them to match the color and texture of their surroundings, providing effective camouflage. This post is dedicated to all those special connections that bring light into our lives even at darkest of times, let us never take for granted such love, let us remember that at the end of the day, it is those relationships that will truly shape our lives beyond our profession or social status… let us value those people that bring a smile when our heart is in pain, those that ground us into the present moment and give our soul the brake it needs from the stresses life can bring… as this moments of peace allow us to process our discomfort and grow with it instead of running away from it. Let us value those special people in our lives 💙 . Now, let me share the story of this photos… “Games of light and darkness” . 2022 diving with my buddy @sixfivelive we started to hear heavy rain towards end of the dive, a dive with perfect conditions, blue and clear waters… as we approach the shallows we saw this massive cloud of mud coming from a sudden and heavy run off… for a moment we looked at each other ready to loose all visibility and therefor we got together and ready to abort yet …. As the cloud started to spread at surface we both stopped to appreciate the game of light that started to develop… greens, reds, different tones of blue… we looked at each other and without hesitation grab onto our cameras and did our best to capture such beautiful moment. One of those experiences we knew was unlikely to repeat itself… to our amazement, the cloud went over our heads and we were submerged in this alien looking world without loosing visibility at our level… one of those experiences that shall remain in our memory through the passing of time. . Sea moths, have a fascinating reproductive strategy. Unlike most fish, where the female lays eggs and the male fertilizes them externally, sea moths have a unique way of reproducing. The male sea moth carries the fertilized eggs in a specialized pouch until they hatch. An intriguing fact about the Bent pipefish (Trachyrhamphus bicoarctatus) is that they are masters of paternal care. Unlike many other fish species where the female carries and cares for the eggs, male Bent pipefish are the ones tasked with this responsibility. After the female deposits her eggs into the male’s brood pouch, he fertilizes them and carries them until they hatch. During this time, the male Bent pipefish provides oxygen and nutrients to the developing embryos, as well as protection from predators. So excited to share the first photos ever taken of Pseudanthias Fasciatus - Redstripe Anthias in Timor Leste! This photos will also help us add them to the official list of fish biodiversity in the country which we have helped cross the 1000 mark! We think we can still add a couple hundred to that list, especially as we start to spend more time in the Mesophotic Reefs. . Since early this year we saw these species during a tech dive to 45m but they were at least 10m deeper than we were so we didn’t get the shot, then recently while running a TDI Extended Range course saw a pair at 53m at the top of a large rock covered in coral so decided to go straight back out there a couple days after with @sixfivelive and success! Found them and managed to get a shot of both individuals! . What do you think? Beautiful fluke photo of a Pygmy blue whale so close to shore by Mikio. As they were so late starting we are still seeing them but it’s coming to and end for this year #pygmybluewhale #pygmyblue #bluewhalewatching #whalewatching #whalewatchingtour #whales #whalesanddolphins #divetimor #instascuba #divetimorleste #scubagram #divetimortoday

Stunning orangutang crab nestled in the soft coral was just one of the many finds of yesterdays coast diving. Other gems included nudibranch, frog fish, ribbon eels and a pipehorse.
