I’m a passionate coach.❤️🔥 . Because I really want to see my students succeed. I’m very much interested in their progression, that’s why I try to push them out of their limits, and spend so much time working on technique and details. Sometimes it might be a little bit overwhelming, or maybe not so much fun, as if we’d just fool around all the time. But, I know it’s important in learning and I want to see the best efficiency in process. I’m doing my best to teach them the best way possible. 🎓 And honestly, I don’t think it’s a good thing, if your coach doesn’t care about your progression. If there’s no heart in it, then there will be no good result. ✨
Usually, if you wanna learn how to play guitar, you come to guitar teacher 🎸, you’re not going to ask drummer to teach. Logical, right? Yet, you can see this phenomenon quite often, when it comes to tunnel flying. 🤔 I personally saw, how flyer, who wants to learn freestyle or dynamic, comes to VFS coach, for example. It’s like if someone would come to me and asked to teach them belly 4 way. 😁 Don’t get me wrong, I’ll teach you belly flying technique to the point you’ll be able to fly in teams, but when it comes to discipline itself, I’ll leave it to professionals in this area of expertise. 👌🏻 So, I wonder, why such things happen in bodyflying? It really doesn’t make sense to me. You wanna learn something, get a professional in that activity. Don’t waste your time and money. 🤷🏻♀️

There is a certain type of flyers, that say "I'm going to fly by myself a bit, learn this thing, and then get a coach". Usually it's middle class people with quite limited budget they ready to spend on their flying skills. They seriously think, that way they are saving money. No, my dear friend, you're not saving anything. Quite opposite, actually. You just spent 10-20 hours last year, learning close to nothing, or even worse, got some real bad habits, that will take a lot of time and your budget to fix. There are some extraordinary, talented self taught flyers out there, but it's less than 1% and they usually have access to free tunnel time, and it still takes them a lot of time to figure things out. Most of us are not this 1%. 🙂 In 15 years of my coaching activity I've met only maybe 2-3 students like this. No, don't get me wrong, I'm not a snob, and I completely understand, what it's like to spend your last money on flying. But if you have limited budget, you have to be even smarter about how you spend it, how to maximize your efficiency and squeeze the most out of quality/quantity balance. If you are the owner of a new tunnel with freshly employed staff, or a beginner coach, who wants to improve his/her skills, this information is for you. 👌 I'm starting the course for tunnel coaches, from the very beginner's level, with the detailed attention to the proper flying technique. There are coaches, who are very good with this, but also there are a lot, who doesn't really pay attention on teaching their students proper basic technique. Because it's not fun for them. Which, unfortunately, leads to relearning things at later stage and paying more. To avoid this kind of confusion, I plan to teach beginner coaches proper flying technique, so they can apply it to their students and make their progression more fluent. We'll start at very beginning and will come to the point to be able to prepare the student for high level competition. If you already have experience and would like work on particular elements, that's also possible. How to become a tunnel coach 🌪️🎓. . Many flyers, after gaining a decent amount of flying experience, come to the point they want to become a coach. It can be thrilling and frightening at the same time. “Can I teach?”, “am I good enough?” - these are the questions, running through the head quite often. If you look at the greatest coaches, they didn’t become great at the day one. It takes time to build up the experience and develop progressive methods. But, you gotta start somewhere, right? . First of all, you need to be honest with yourself and judge your own experience fairly. You can teach your students something you can do and good at, otherwise you’ll be wasting their time and money. And at the same time work on your own skills to increase your capabilities. . Start with beginners, to get a better understanding of how each person feels and learns, and in time you’ll see a pattern. Be patient, thoughtful, observant and open minded. ✨ Everyone is different and one thing that works for one might not work for another. 👌🏻 If you try to use the same trick, that other coach uses, you have to understand why and what it does, not just blindly repeat it. Otherwise it won’t be useful. . Don’t be afraid to use creativity and improvise. But, remember about safety ☝🏻. And most importantly - don’t be afraid to start. If don’t start, you can’t learn. I’m one of those coaches, who pays close attention to precision and techniques. 🧐 Some coaches prefer to skip this, because it’s not the most fun to do for their students. But, I had quite good coaches myself, who once told me “I’m not here to entertain you. I’m here to give you what you need, not what you want”. I get asked “Are you ok with your student going to another coach”? I believe, this is very familiar situation to many coaches, and many get very offended. For me I would say “It depends”. Of course, it wouldn’t be true to say that I don’t care, because when you teach your students, put your time and heart into it, and suddenly they decide to switch, it gets a bit frustrating. You ask yourself “What’s wrong?”. But at the same time, I believe in certain things: . First, a customer is allowed to spend his money, however he likes and not being pushed or manipulated, that’s including switching the coaches. Is it going to benefit them? Maybe, maybe not. But the success highly depends of mutual trust and chemistry between student and coach, so if they want to try something else, you can not hold them. It’s not going to work. . Second, I always work for benefit of the student, not just my own personal gain. As an athlete, I want to see them succeed, that’s how I get a kick out of it, that’s what makes my job pleasant in the first place. So, if I know, I have nothing more to teach them, I gladly let them sail further, to the new horizons. We all know these types of coaches, who like to hold to their students as long as they can, to squeeze as much money out of them as possible. Even if their student outgrows them, or they don’t know, how to teach certain things, but try to teach them anyway, using their apprentice’s time to upgrade their own skills. I personally despise this kind of approach and never use it. Time is a most valuable source in our life. . In conclusion, I think it’s ok for students to switch coaches, if they want to learn new things, or looking for better chemistry. And coaches should not be offended, and should improve their own flying and coaching skills to be able to teach more variable things. 👌🏻 The only time, when switching coaches doesn’t benefit student at all, is when they go to different coaches too often. It makes sense to fly with one coach at least for few hours to learn techniques and progression. And of course, choose the professional in the discipline you want to learn. ✨

And now it’s time for my coaching blog. 💭 (Русский текст в комментариях 👇) Somehow, my students quite often come to me and say "Olga, I want to participate in competition. Can we learn compulsory elements and create free routine? We have like 2 weeks". And my answer is always "No, we can't adequately prepare for competition in such short term". . I mean, of course, I'll do my best, we might have time to correct certain things, polish a bit whatever we have at this moment, but that's about it. I'm not a magician. ✨ Preparation for competition normally should start 2-3 months prior the event, beginning at slower, but regular pace, and accelerating towards the last month. In some sports athletes train all year long, to keep the shape and skills sharp, which also make the participation in competitions psychologically easier. It doesn't matter at which level you are. This technique applies not only to top athletes. If you want to do good at competition, you need to give yourself time to prepare at certain pace. 👌 . It's ok to have rest and breaks, it's even important to have them, not to burn out physically and emotionally. But if you plan to compete, you need to come back to regular training schedule asap.
