It is fitting that Doc and Darryl get their numbers retired by the Mets in the same season considering their meteoric rise to stardom in the 80’s with the Mets. Pictured is a Full unused ticket from Game 7 of the 1986 World Series. Strawberry responded after being taken out of Game 6 in a double switch, by hitting this towering home run late in Game 7 to give the Mets a 7-5 lead after Boston had cut the Mets lead from 6-3 to 6-5 in the previous inning. What a great time we had today at the @tcsports @tcs_baseball Pikes Peak Challenge! The boys didn’t have the best outings yesterday, which landed us the 8th seed today (out of 10 teams - yikes). We came to play today and won our first two games 18-2 and 13-6. We were so close to the ‘ship game we could almost taste it, but unfortunately lost our third, super hard-fought game! Comeback boys. The Firebirds win an electric battle against the Indians for our 3rd win of the season. This is our 7th multiple run comeback walk-off since the start of last season. FINAL Firebirds 7 Indians 6 After winning for most of the game and Preston Heffernan only allowing 2 runners through 5 innings, the Indians spark an unlikely 2 out rally in the 6th after a couple walks, an error and hit. The Indians roped a 3 RBI triple to take a 4-2 lead then trickled in a couple more the next 2 innings. With the time limit fading in the bottom of the 8th the Firebirds put together some tough clutch ABs to tie it. Caleb Henstein led off with a walk. John Morgan struck out. Cam Padgett drew a walk. Jalen Alexander singled to score Henstein and move Padgett to 3rd. Johnson walked to load the bases with the winning run at the plate in Dante Granger. Granger struck out. Padgett scored on a passed ball and Logan Mitchell singled to bring us to within 1. Birthday boy Trace Collins then tied it 6-6 with a single. Kemp struck out with the winning run on 3rd. The Indians put some pressure on in the top of the 9th, but stellar defense prevailed for us after Austin caught a go-ahead runner slipping on a ground ball base hit as he rounded third. John Morgan came in with runners in scoring position and struck out the Indians lead off hitter, then forced the 3 hitter to pop out after an intentional walk to set up force outs. The 9th was easy work offensively as Preston Heffernan walked and stole 2nd. @hopeforprisoners In this country, far too often, you hear stories of men and women who leave prison after years of incarceration, return to the community and reoffend. These are the stories that hit the six o’clock news. These are the stories that really hurt the narrative of the true work being done in reentry. We don’t often hear the stories of the men and women who have served 10 to 15 years in prison that have been out 10 to15 years and not only have they never reoffended, but today they are living levels of life that many people only dream about. NEVER GIVE UP. (Part 2, too many faves!) Even when you’re down 17-1 in the 3rd inning. I’m not going to post the entire story of last night here, but you sure can go read it on my Facebook post. What I will do here, however, is say that last night’s doubleheader against rival Moorhead was incredible. Thank you Bemidji Lumberjacks baseball for showing me that never quitting, pushing yourself outside your comfort zone, and defying the odds are within the grasp of anyone who refuses to give up. You’re all an inspiration, and it was an honor to photograph just short of 7 hours of freezing cold baseball last night! I’ll never quit on any Jacks team, but even more importantly…I’ll never quit on ME.
