Juicebox snail 🧃🍓🐌 My brain had SUCH a mental block when making this. I wish I could explain in a way that makes sense how I struggle designing certain things. But it's even hard for me to understand! It's like...even if I can clearly see it in my head, I'm not always sure how to make it REAL...and looking the way I want it to look. I don't even like to start actually experimenting with clay until i have it mapped out far enough in my head in all the ways i think might work (this also helps to cut down on wasting supplies). I feel like I usually do get to a place where I feel like..okay! This is alright! But I couldn't tell you if that will be within a day, week, month, year, decade...😅 I'm coming to terms with how my brain works, and just trying to enjoy the process, and not giving myself so much crap. After all, I want to do my best work, and I suppose I can't always rush that. What was puzzling me for the juicebox was how to make it the right shape without using all clay, because that would make this thing weigh A LOT. So I wanted to figure out what I could use in the center to make it lighter weight...while still keeping the shape. I originally went for aluminum foil because thats what I usually use. But it still ended up not being as smooth as I wanted. In the end the light bulb moment finally came and I ended up layering a couple rectangles of foam taped together! And then adding my clay over top. I still wish my drawing and painting skills were better. But honestly my first several takes were horrible. Another throwback! To the woodland geckos I played around with a couple of years back(i also made a snake version). This is a design I have wanted to revist in many ways (like with different animals, but also different woodland add ons. I have a fun hedgehog idea thats been rattling around for the better part of 3 years, perhaps this ends up being the year i can finally put it together 😅) I have so enjoyed going through some of these older creations! I hope you guys haven't minded seeing some repeats over the last couple of weeks while I reminisce 🫣🥹 Fun fact, I use @cosclayusa for a lot of creations like this because it's SUPER strong and flexible when properly cured. It gives the finished piece a wonderful flexibility that is not only a little fun to play with. But it also gives you added security when making pieces such as these, with little arms, long skinny tails, tiny little toes, etc. I won't use anything else when it comes to details like that! Crab Rangoon snail (round two)🥡🐌🌶 After making the first one a couple of months back, I just couldn't stop thinking about it. I knew I wanted to do something extra! It wasn't until i was actually working on another project that it ended up giving me the idea to add the sweet chili sauce around the snail, like snail slime! So now I have 2 versions, and I love them both! I am extra happy that this second version turned out exactly how I was picturing it in my head 😁😁 that's always such a wonderful feeling as an artist, when you see something in your head, and you're able to put it into physical form the exact way you were picturing it. Check out this Itty Bitty cookie giraffe I made a few years ago! It got me a bit excited at the prospect of actually expanding the ibmf....and turning that F into friends instead of frogs, like i talked about possibly doing when i first debuted the frogs...because, tell me why I started getting ideas of Itty bitty.... freaking cows, giraffes, and rats dancing in my head? 🤦🏻♀️ I exhaust myself. You may be wondering why I have been sharing older creations lately, and it's because I found my backup folder (out of sight, out of mind, all this time!!) and it was FULL of creations I never shared or have forgotten I had even made! Going through the album was like seeing them for the first time, I was so excited 😅 Some made me feel a little uneasy at first, because I have since figured out better ways, or changed how I did something. But i quickly hushed those voices and reminded myself that I've loved this art form since the very beginning of picking it up, and no one starts out as a master (does one truly ever become a master 🤔 i dont think learning ever stops!) !! Every day, we grow! It's a good reminder to us all to not compare our beginning with our middle....or your beginning to someone else's middle, for that matter! Believe it or not, but this creation was about 4 years in the making! I've made 2 other Calcifer inspired pieces over the past 4 years, 1 in my first year discovering my love for polymer clay, and another about 2 years ago. Making this new one really gave me a cool perspective on my work! Gosh, I just love working with clay so much. It has brought so much genuine joy into my life(and from what some of you have told me, you have also experienced that joy!). Axolotl is probably one creature I've been asked to make more than any other. Welp, I finally did it. As part of a long-awaited request 😅 I love how it turned out! And of COURSE, I added the signature tail drip 🍜💧 I HAVE done 2 axolotls prior to this that I didn't dislike by any means. But I finally got that feeling I wait for when creating with this one. That little light bulb moment where my brain is like: "Yup, that's it. That's what we wanted."
