How I Discovered DECA: Dating back to August 2016, I was a shy nerd that was looking to do something meaningful with my education. I found out about DECA during freshman orientation thanks to my mom. My 1st and 2nd years were focused on improving myself socially and professionally. From my 3rd-6th year, I added another goal to gain experience in leading different events and tasks to train myself in teamwork. Afterwards up to now in my upcoming 9th year, I add another goal of being a mentor and resource to help those I have connected with to grow as better leaders than I ever can become. 🔷ICDC 2024 Part FINAL🔷 I will be honest, my 14 year old self would never have imagined something like this would truly happen. I already mentioned about the great moments I had with my chapter and the friendships along the way. But since I transitioned to Collegiate DECA, I haven’t placed at ICDC not once. This year I competed in Fashion Merchandising and Marketing along with Digital Marketing Strategies. While I didn’t place in DMS, I did not only get top marketing exam score, but I also managed to make top 10 internationally in fashion merchandising! I felt like my hard work paid off and I had so much support from our alumni, members, and even taking random QOTD’s from high school members. And that isn’t even the best part! Since ICDC 2022, I was debating if I wanted to run for Collegiate DECA Executive office. I wanted to be able to make a difference in being a support system to members. So many of you have helped me in my journey and I believed the only way to truly thank you all is to return the favor. While I did run for the President position, I’m happy to say that I am officially one of your new Collegiate DECA Vice Presidents! Thank you to @unlvdeca , @nvdeca , my high school and Collegiate DECA connections, alumni and partners, and to the voting delegates for putting in your votes. UNLV Collegiate DECA Making History! For the first time, our chapter had the opportunity to hold a Jeopardy Trivia Tournament amongst different Collegiate DECA chapters. Since November 2023, we announced this tournament in hopes to connect and prepare members for competition as well as grow their skills in teamwork and concepts. We had 6 total chapters being Butler University, Colorado State University, Middle Tennessee State University, University of Tennessee, Knoxville, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and University of Wisconsin, Whitewater. As we held the championship round in Austin, TX, our top 3 winners were Butler University taking 3rd, Colorado State University taking 2nd, and Middle Tennessee State University taking 1st! We would like to thank all the chapters who competed and we hope you enjoyed this new experience. In addition, we also would like to thank DECA Inc for allowing us to use the space at Collegiate DECA ICDC, all the UNLV officers and members who helped, and many of the other members who came by to watch. 🔷ICDC 2024 Part 2🔷 Here I want to highlight the many connections I have made/reunited with this conference. Sadly I tend to forget to ask for pictures with many people, but I guess it’s an example of how much fun I have being around all of you. Whether it was bonding towards competitive events, enjoying the ceremonies, or having a good time together at the jeopardy tournament, I always appreciate seeing you all at each DECA conference. Some example moments were the excitement after our competitive events with @its.an.emily and @saharzali823 , having some laughs with @giggles_sophia @cdecaeric @norasimondet @wilkeannisa @kobeyblock @dillonfliehler , walking back from CVS with our chapter and @jennahasenstein , sitting with @uwwdeca in the lobby and running into their advisor multiple times, helping @allisonseiling @aykutiri_ and @xtinamay_ with printing a ton of copies for their event, Running into my Muslim brothers and sisters in Collegiate DECA, matching finalist shirts with @twingrace04 talking with @cdeca.lettie and @skupinskicf about how they killed it in their competition despite a laptop dying, and so much more. UNLV Collegiate DECA was Standing on Business! As 15 of our members attended Collegiate DECA ICDC in Austin, TX, our chapter had the opportunity to network and represent the state of Nevada. Throughout these days, members attended workshops, competed in numerous events, and achieved multiple awards. We also had the opportunity to have fun and travel around different areas in the city. For the leadership passport, we would like to congratulate Sofia and James for receiving Executive Level, Christina and Ela for Diplomat Level, and Andres, Annie, and Samer for Presidential Level. Our chapter also received the Presidential Level in the Chapter Passport. We also had a total of 8 preliminary finalists, 1 who received top exam score, 1 with top presentation score, and 5 who made it to top 10 internationally. I earned my spot as a Top 10 International DECA Champion this week! 🔷 With Central Michigan DECA, I competed in the International Career Development Conference in Austin Texas. I received a medal for Top 10 International Finalist in Travel and Tourism. I achieved this by creating a solution to a business case study. I communicated my ideas clearly, creatively problem solved, and added a personal feel to all of it. I also won medals for my Comprehensive Exam on hospitality in business, my Role Play Performance, and an International Finalist medal. I would also like to publicly announce that I will be the Central Michigan University DECA President for the 2024-2025 term. DECA has been such a vital part of my life and has led me to hone in on my passions, skills, and sense of community. 🔷ICDC 2024 Part 1🔷 Our chapter brought in 15 members to attend this conference and many of our members were first time attendees. Throughout the conference we were able to travel to many places from kayaking to the capitol. For me it’s been about 3 years since I was here so it was amazing to go down memory lane. This week marked the Final One Diamond Call for the 2023-2024 Collegiate DECA year. For the last call, members had the opportunity to share their successes with what they have accomplished this year. We went over the Roses, Buds, and Thorns to learn what went well, what didn’t go as planned, and what do we look forward to for the future year. One of my successes I shared was the collaborations that were achieved. I felt like I was able to share what I know and help others while learning new skills from them as well. There were moments where I could have prepared more for certain events as some cases had larger than expected turnout. The importance is looking back to view what we learned from our experiences and how to further improve to have an even better year. All 10 diamond calls have been fruitful to attend and I am grateful to have been able to write about each one. I also want to thank the executive officers for allowing me to be one of the first co-hosts for a diamond call in September. It’s an honor to be given this opportunity and I hope everyone else learned important lessons each month from these calls. Shoutouts to Lettie, Eric, and Sophia for being great co-hosts as well. Earlier this week, the 2nd to last One Diamond Call happened for the month of March focusing on how to Battle Burnout. For our Icebreaker, W. Skylar Hall took lead as we divided into 2 groups. One group discussed the causes of burnout while the other discussed on how to overcome it. Some ways I mentioned on how to overcome burnout is to space out your tasks and take breaks by doing tasks that can help you calm down. As Collegiate DECA members, we already involve ourselves in our chapters and communities and with the increased workload, burnout can happen often. Other causes could be lack of control with deadlines, pressure in academics, or even lack of support from others. One solution is self-care by fueling your brain with snacks and having micro-moments. This can help you reenergize your motivation to continue working. Even with large tasks, reminding yourself of your goals and dividing it into pieces can help make the path to success feel less intimidating. Stress we get from our busy schedule can cause us to forget our purpose which is why revaluating our goals multiple times is essential to not get lost. Many of us also suffer from procrastination. Confronting this by taking on your most difficult tasks first helps set aside the easy ones for later in case. Trying to perfect Learn to embrace imperfection so you may grow overtime. And if stress is still a concern, do activities that you enjoy and help you relax. This could be connecting with your friends/family or reading a book. Overall, it’s important to set boundaries for yourself and learn to say no at times so you can grow to have a work-life balance. Special thanks to the Collegiate DECA Executive Officers for teaching us how to battle burnout and to W Skylar Hall for the engaging icebreaker. Yesterday, our chapter officially held our preliminary round for the National Collegiate DECA Jeopardy Tournament.
