The alluring and exquisite work of Judith Walker - a Pender Island painter - who has a deep and vibrant history on this little island. ‘The Kitchen’ ~ my mom’s to be exact, is another painting from the ‘Interior Series’. If you look closely, you will see in the painting ‘The Dining Room’ (a previous post @pollard.fine.art ). My goal is to paint every corner of this beautiful heritage house owned by my parents, Corbett House, which is filled with a tremendous amount of history since it was built in 1902 and now with the beautiful, eclectic decor and style of my mother. The original inhabitants ‘The Corbett’s’ owned the Hope Bay Store - which happens to be where my studio/gallery is located here on Pender Island. I have added two interesting links in my bio about the history of the Hope Bay Store and the Corbett’s. I am the third “business” to occupy this beautiful space since the building was rebuild after the fire in 1998 - The Red Tree Gallery and The Patarmigan Arts Gallery. I strive to honour this beautiful space, my own development, and to also showcase my peers and exquisitely beautiful art. My studio is located in the back portion of the gallery and makes an absolutely perfect place for me to paint every day. Last week, I was part of a bakers dozen of artists who spent 4 days on Oak Island near Parry Sound. We are all members of the @ontariosocietyofartists, and we had much to share with each other. The best parts for me were having time away from the distractions of home to focus solely on artwork creation. During our stay, meals were prepared for us, which freed up even more time and thought for creative pursuit. There were daily opportunities to visit other places in the sound via the pontoon boat that was skillfully captained by Heidi, our group organizer. I chose to spend the bulk of my days thinking, breathing, and creating art, so I stayed behind on the island. The trip gave me the opportunity to rediscover why I love creating so much, why it's become the most important part of my life (2nd to my daughters) and why I want to spend the rest of my days immersed in creative pursuit. Next up for me: I'd like to experience a few artist residency opportunities both here in Canada and elsewhere. I'm absolutely ready for it. The trick will be convincing the jury panels. New Palette!!! Trying on a bolder palette to express the short transition from spring to summer. And a new compositional approach. Seven was a good number for the last series, which were iceberg portraits. So yeah, let's do 7 of these forest tangles. I sketched out the main bits in graphite. The rest I'll allow for the piece itself to determine. I don't improve my skills if I keep making stuff that's comfortable and familiar. Stepping outside my comfortable box, even throwing out the box, that's when I start to learn and improve. Here there are 3 locations known as "The Hazelton's": Old Town, New Town and South Town. From these points of interest, "Stegyawden Peak" takes on different faces. This one is from South Town. I am hoping to do another painting from New Town. I have never seen a mountain that has so many faces due to the fact that the major highway travels around this Roche de Boule Range in Northern BC, Canada.
