Long post warning: Today has been very bittersweet because my brother Joe went back to college in Kansas and we finished our run of A Nice Family Gathering and I would like to take a minute to talk about the experience. Branching out to Butterfield has been on my bucket list for years, but for various reasons I never got the chance to until now. After reading the script I was sold on auditioning because of the emotional ending. It spoke to me because I know quite a few families that have lost loved ones and coming off of two church retreats it made me think of how I’ve felt the Holy Spirit work through me. When we started rehearsals I was so stressed about having the lead role and learning so many lines that I forgot to have fun, but in the weeks leading up to the performances there were several moments where we got the giggles (something to do with an anaconda) and couldn’t contain our laughter. Those moments reminded me to have fun and once things came together I started to really have fun and it turned out to be a really great experience. I have so enjoyed playing the part of Carl Lundeen and working with this cast and crew. We all got along great and there was no drama that I’m aware of. This is the best theater experience I’ve had in quite some time. So many great memories were made on and off that stage and even though I’m happy to have my weeknights back, I’m going to miss this amazing experience and the family dynamic we all had. Thank you so much to everyone who supported us during our run. I’ve been really touched by all the feedback we’ve received. Thank you to the cast and crew for being great to work with. Thank you J Clark Bawcom for giving me the part of Carl. Thank you Ty Belger for accepting the part of Jerry so there would be a familiar face in my first show at Butterfield, despite coming off of your starring role in The Importance of Being Earnest. You didn’t have to do that, but you did and I’m grateful. And thank you Lord for answering my prayers and blessing this amazing experience. And if there is anyone else I forgot to thank - thank you.
