In the automotive world the Belgian brand Minerva was a big name. It was comparable to Rolls-Royce and the Antwerp based company had more than 6,500 employees. Minerva was active from 1902 to 1938 and a manufacturer of luxury automobiles. In 1883 the young Sylvain de Jong (NL, 1868-1928), settled in the port city of Antwerp/ Belgium. His company initially started as a small bicycle workshop in 1897, and quickly moved on building motorized safety bicycles and motorcycles before branching out into light cars. In 1902 he started his adventure manufacturing cars to its lineup. The company was located on Karel Oomsstraat in Antwerp. 2006 FORD GT HERITAGE EDITION THAT WAS ACTUALLY DRIVEN! 11,000 MILES! SELLING AT BONHAMS BONMONT SALE! The first production models of the Ford GT rolled out in 2005. A total of 4,038 cars were built in 2005 and 2006 model years. The cars featured a superplastic formed frame, aluminum body panels, a friction welded center tunnel covered by a magnesium center console, and an aluminum engine cover. The motor was a modified V-8 from the SVT division. At 5.4 liters, the all-aluminum alloy power plant was supercharged and delivered 550 HP and 500 LB FT of torque. This motor was mated to a six-speed transmission and a limited slip differential. The Ford GT was tested at 3.3 seconds for 0-60 MPH times. Top speed was 205 MPH. Ford priced the GT under $150,000. Ford also released a limited number (343 in total) of GTs with the $13,000 optional “Heritage Edition” paint reminiscent of the Gulf livery colors from Le Mans. Ford GTs trade at $400,000 and up. The $13,000 original cost of the paint option commands a good premium today over a non-Heritage GT. The other major factor on value is how few miles are on the car, especially for the Heritage ones. We’ve seen single digit odometer cars bring over $700,000. The car featured here has been driven 11,000 miles. That means the new owner can drive this car without worrying about declining value with each mile. Bonhams is offering this one owner Heritage GT at Bonmont. They estimate $380,000 to $495,000. A TAILOR-MADE FERRARI Touring Superleggera got their hands pretty busy now with mounting the new Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale and they have recently revealed two new RH95 bespoke chassis but, besides that, a few of their creations post-2006 have been popping up at auctions, mainly by Bonhams Cars and Artcurial Motorcars. In a few days' time this splendid Aero 3 will be up for grabs at Bonhams' Monaco auction but also a Touring Sciàdipersia Cabriolet will be there. The Aero 3 is a grand tourer based on the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta and heavily inspired on the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900B Tipo Speciale Le Mans, chassis 412033, driven by Raymond Sommer and Clemente Biondetti (the lost 5th Le Mans win...). The tail fin is the most obvious hint to the Le Mans racer. The BMW 328 Touring Coupé Mille Miglia is another model of which one can draw similarities from. It's another Touring creation anyways. Specs-wise it remains unchanged from the F12 but it's almost 200 kg lighter. This Aero 3 in particular is one of 3 currently existing (up to 15 available if orders are placed) and holds a Belgian title since 2022. This chassis debuted at Autoworld Brussels in January of that year and in September 2022 it was exhibited at the Chantilly Arts & Elegance competition. Here you can see the Aero 3 at Rétromobile Paris, displayed by Bonhams Cars to advertise their Monaco auction. RM Sotheby's were displaying a Maserati MC12 in front of them too. This Aero 3 was one of my favorite cars displayed at the French fair!

1988 PORCHE 959 KOMFORT! 25,000 MILES! BEING OFFERED ON BY BONHAMS MIAMI! Porsche introduced the 959 at the 1985 Frankfurt Motor Show as a 1986 model. It was a supercar for the supercar era, built to compete with the Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Countach, and others. Porsche also campaigned the 959 as a Group B rally car. With a twin turbocharged engine making 444 HP and 369 LB FT of torque mated to a six-speed manual transmission, the 959 was the fastest street production car at the time with a top speed of 197 MPH. It featured a new all-wheel drive system that could shift power between the front and rear wheels based on need. The engine had air cooling for the cylinders, but water cooling for the cylinder heads. Only 292 production models were made. Porsche had announced that the 959 would be available to US buyers and dealers accepted deposits but abandoned plans to import the cars to the US. This 959 is finished in Graphite Metallic paint over a Tricolor Gray leather interior. It has covered 25,000 miles and was recently the recipient of a $250,000 + refurbishment by Porsche. It comes with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, owner’s manual, service records, and tools. It was previously owned by F1 driver Eddie Irvine. This 959 is currently being offered for auction by Bonhams in Miami on May 4th. Bonhams has estimated this car at $1,750,000 to $2,000,000. Among the many cars that caught my eye at Amelia Island, this 1910 Atlas Model H at Bonhams Auction stood out. It’s powered by a 60-hp, 6.4-liter two-stroke l-4 with a 3-speed Brown & Lipe gearbox. The sole survivor of a Springfield, MA company that only lasted for five years, this aubergine and brown behemoth, on a 128-in wheelbase, was very innovative for its time. The engine had a 5-inch bore and a 5-inch stroke, and very few moving parts. A wet sump meant that no fuel-oil mixture was required. The Atlas (swipe left) was a Harrah “Gold Star” restoration and its gentle aging was almost imperceptible.
