‘Catch the invisible part lI’ Art Exhibition by @elolobosoka @galerieatissdakar Flying onions 2024 Mixed media installation In his see-through soft sculptures, Elolo Bosoka appropriates items amassed from corners of the mundane urban environment to engage with notions of art as place, economic exchange, materiality, and history. His new large-scale sculptures comprises of used onion bags, discarded pieces of fishing nets and other plastic ephemera sourced from Marche Tylene and Marche Castor in Dakar. In repurposing these made-made and often overlooked everyday materials, Bosoka reimagines them in a language of geometry and abstraction, enveloping and interacting spatially with traces of industrial architecture. The sculpture intervenes in the former Aissa Dione Tissus carpentry workshop a living artwork that engages viewers, space, and material. Alongside this sculpture is a selection of painterly objects, an ongoing photographic series by the artist documenting the unexpected beauty of geometry and form in everyday encounters of space and place. >>> painterly objects #blaxtarlines #blaxtarlineskumasi #knust #kumasi #art #contemporaryart #contemporaryartghana #elolobosoka #theOFFison #jarehdas #elolobosoka #everydayness #painterlyobjects #dakar #contemporaryart #catchtheinvisible #objects

When speaking about sculptures and parks, people usually have a very straightforward idea of what that can be. In this case, we want to welcome various ideas of what a work of art can be, do, transform or re-generate. The Skulpture Parks is an initiative by artists Sopo Kashakashvili- Tbilisi, Georgia & Larry Bonćhaka- Ghana. The journey starts in the enchanted garden in Kwamo. Where the garden is a living artwork itself. The idea started from thinking about the history of playgrounds, poetry and works in public spaces. The contributions from artist/friends, Godelive Kasangati - Congo, Dramane Diarra - Mali, Nuna Adisenu- Doe - Ghana the works range from site specific installations, interventions, sound installations, luminous images and paintings. Project Kwamo is an ongoing community based project initiated by Caterina Niklaus Sippah and Stephen Sippah/ uncle Smart on a land crafted by art and horticulture. Each plant, hedge, herb, bird, has healing and nourishing properties. This mystical garden inhabits musical, spiritual, architectural and re-generative elements that visitors are encouraged to embody. We warmly invite you to join us the grand launch of The Sculpture Parks project on 24/05/2024. The program is as follows: Doors open : 3pm Tour starts: 4pm Live music: 6pm Join us on an ongoing initiative that aims to bring contemporary art in dialogue with Horticulture and various cuisines. Bosoka’s work is a testament to the power of art to activate and alter spaces, making the ordinary extraordinary. “Rectangles and Extensions” is not just a mere intervention; it is an immersive experience that extends an invitation to view the world through lenses that celebrate the interplay between space, object, and viewer. Purple Hibiscus, by Ibrahim Mahama is set to open at the Barbican (@barbicancentre ) in London from April 10 to August 18, 2024. "The Barbican wrap [...is] Mahama’s biggest to date in terms of sheer labour hours. “What struck me about the Barbican is the tactile quality of the texture of the concrete,” he says, referring to the building’s signature mottled walls, hammered by hand with pick-axes. “So I wanted to make a work that considers the labour behind textiles. I thought, why not commission people in this rural part of Ghana?” Read more about the artist's motivations via @telegraph :https://www.telegraph.co.uk/art/artists/ibrahim-mahama-interview-barbican-ghana/ Photos 1&2 source The Telegraph Photo 3 by Rii Schroer, photographed at the Barbican #thebarbican #IbrahimMahama #blaxtarlineskumasi #blaxtarlines #knust #purplehibiscus

Each piece in “Rectangles... and Extensions” proposes dialogues between the artist, the objects, and the numerous viewers, encouraging a communal reevaluation of how we interact with situations that we come across every day. Through interactive installations and compositions that reference abstractions that have been condensed out of a series of real-life manifestations, Bosoka transforms the space into a living canvas where rectangles not only define or contain images and the worlds that they inhabit but also extend beyond their physical confines to embrace essences of extension too… Appreciation George Bosompi @_aerovision @niiankama @abdul_salam.jr @eddie._prah @amegatseydzidefo @benjoonam @babsis_alterego @dotamenuke and the unknowns #elolobosoka #objectsinsituations #painterlyobjects #everydayness #interventions #kumasi #blaxtarlineskumasi

STATEMENT FROM THE ARTIST “Rectangles... and Extensions" In the intervention "Rectangles... and Extensions," Bosoka begins an exploratory journey that interrogates everyday objects' essence and spatial relationships. This exhibition invites viewers to navigate through a series of reimagined spaces and objects, where the mundane transcends conventional references to become a source of profound inquiry and unexpected beauty. At the core of Bosoka's work is a fascination with the geometric simplicity of rectangles as shapes as a starting point and how they can redefine our understanding of space and objecthood when extended physically and metaphorically. The exhibition takes on traditional perceptions and wrestles with them, activating spaces that blur the boundaries between the seen and unseen, the significant and the trivial, the fixed and the fluid. Each piece in "Rectangles... and Extensions" proposes dialogues between the artist, the objects, and the numerous viewers, encouraging a communal reevaluation of how we interact with situations that we come across every day. Through interactive installations and compositions that reference abstractions that have been condensed out of a series of real-life manifestations, Bosoka transforms the space into a living canvas where rectangles not only define or contain images and the worlds that they inhabit but also extend beyond their physical confines to embrace essences of extension too. Bosoka's work is a testament to the power of art to activate and alter spaces, making the ordinary extraordinary. "Rectangles and Extensions" is not just a mere intervention; it is an immersive experience that extends an invitation to view the world through lenses that celebrate the interplay between space, object, and viewer. Wintanworks Open studio: Halimatu Iddrisu (March 12, Copenhagen, Denmark) ~  Halimatu Iddrisu is an artist based in Kumasi, Ghana. Her artworks explore the dichotomy between the liberal dressing style of Muslim women in Ghana and the strict Islamic rules that govern women’s costume. Born in Accra in 1997, Iddrisu draws inspiration from her upbringing in a strict Islamic household while witnessing the contrasting freedom of women’s dress in the Ghanaian Muslim society (particularly within the Zongo communities).  Iddrisu’s thought-provoking artworks prompt viewers to reflect on the complexities of identity, cultural practices and societal expectations. In 2020, Iddrisu graduated with a bachelor of Fine arts from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Fine Art at the same institution.   ~  ABOUT WINTANWORKS  Wintanworks is an artist-in-residence and exchange programme – a collaboration between Art Hub Copenhagen (AHC) in Denmark and the blaxTARLINES KUMASI collective in Ghana. This residency programme provides two artists – one from each country – with the opportunity to ‘swap’ locations for one month, each of them thereby spending time in another art scene and another cultural environment.  Photo credits: Emil Basse @emem0l #blaxtarlines #halimatuidrissu #wintanworks #blaxtarlineskumasi #knust

One of my favorite highlights of 2023 was a studio visit from @erinzulie and @katherinefinerty . Very thankful for that encounter and the artistic conversations we had surrounding my artworks. Gentle reminder… "ROOMS? 1, 2, 3" is the beginning of a series of exhibitions that invites artists to intervene in a number of 8x8x8 foot structures made of 12 wooden planks (lines) and metal joints. The artist is invited to almost start from a point of gestalt with these 12 lines composed in the form of a cube perceived to be carving out space. There are no walls. Images recycled from @e_flux : "In 1953, the land was sufficiently cleared for the then-principal of the college, Dr. J. P. During his speech at the Admission Ceremony on October 31, 1953, Andrews emphasized that the new buildings of the college, “the finest in Africa, possibly in the world,” were standing on a site that a year before had been merely a “forest country.” He thanked the Asantehene for this “generous gift” of land on which the college was built." RP @art_hub_copenhagen : Join us on March 12 as we dive into the process and practice of Ghanaian artist Halimatu Iddrisu who is currently in Copenhagen as part of the Wintanworks residency program. Get a generous insight as Iddrisu will show what she has been working on in her studio at Halmtorvet the past few weeks. ~ Halimatu Iddrisu is an artist based in Kumasi, Ghana. ~ Wintanworks: Open studio: Halimatu Iddrisu, Tuesday March 12, 5:00-7:00PM. “Cuts in a Colourful Gloom”, an exhibition by Ama Adoley Newman, opened on the 17th of February, 2024 at Staatliche Akademie der Bildenden Künste Karlsruhe (GESCHWISTER RAUM @geschwister.raum ). ""Cuts in a Colorful Gloom" invites viewers on a dream-like journey through memory, blurring the lines between reality and perception. Utilizing familiar materials, the artist constructs a dynamic installation that evokes fragmented memories and highlights the ever-shifting nature of time and experience. Drawing inspiration from diverse sources like Haruki Murakami's writing and contemporary art practices, the work invites active engagement from its audience, challenging viewers to question the construction of their own reality through the lens of individual interpretation and memory."
