I thought I would let you into a little bit of the creative process & the music artists that inspired the subsequent 2024 version of my latest song release, 𝗖𝗟𝗢𝗦𝗨𝗥𝗘. • Bit if a back story: @jamalhadaway and I wrote this song back in 2012! ( Over a decade ago!) ( See last slide) , and I guess life was lifing, and I left it in my catalogue knowing it was special but not entirely sure at this point how I wanted to start my music artist journey and present myself as an artist. I was still also quite damaged from my experience on The Voice ( the rollercoaster of being in everyone’s faces and then goi g back to normal life like nothing happened I found to be quite anxiety inducing!) *********** We filmed a little acoustic video for the song though to see if people were vibing to it @ruth.whyteofficial I see u girlieeeeee - ( red-head days in slide 2) . It turns out people really loved it. Some of my supportive base have been asking for it for many years- so this is a very special release in that sense. ***** Again… life was lifing - I had only lost my mother 4 years prior to writing ‘Closure’ , and it just felt too vulnerable to ‘put myself out there’ at that time whilst still processing and experiencing grief and all it brings. ********************** Which brings me to now- Now bring happily married with a kind man who has my back 100% - we decided to take ‘Closure’ and make something amazing out of the demo version I had. I’ve always loved the @justintimberlake / MJ sounds I wanted to incorporate some of that influence. ( Slide 1). Big ups to legend @itsme.palada for embracing my influences, and then bringing fresh ideas that I never would’ve thought of- like encouraging me to make drum sounds with my mouth! 😂 ******** May this be a lesson to anybody that feels vulnerable putting their own music out there. It takes time and tenacity, ( and thick skin like a rhino!) but getting over the fear and doing it anyway ( whilst still a bit terrified of the reaction) WILL SET YOU FREE. I PROMISE.

2020, that disgusting year in our lifetime, is also when I discovered a radio show called The Sol of Synth-Pop and quickly became hooked. After years of trying to move my music in a “new direction” but not really finding my groove, it confirmed where my heart lay. So, I set about finding a producer to help me birth my upcoming EP in the genre that felt most comfortable to me. The pandemic allowed me the time to meticulously scan my personal playlists, checking the credits of all my favourite songs from recent times until I listed 100 producers. I contacted a few, but it was clear that @massimoparamour was The One. So it is poignant (and a privilege) that one of our creations should be played on my favourite synthpop station as it returned from (what seemed like) the dead yesterday. This is a long-winded way of saying thank you to @jimm_kjelgaard for giving ‘Supernova’ its first airplay on Radio Plus. You can listen again at his Mixcloud. Hey it’s Janda! I just put together the 130th episode of the Behind The Song podcast, which seems like a big number! So first I want to say thank you for listening to the podcast. It means a lot to me that you do. Number 130 is about “Magic Man” by Heart, the song that really kicked the doors open for the band and their first to go into the Top 10 on the charts. It’s a stone-cold classic with a ferocious lead guitar played by Roger Fisher, and a fearsomely funky instrumental break that has that Minimoog voodoo played by Howard Leese - a part that was cut out for the original single edit, but is thankfully in place on the album version. It was written about a specific man, which I get into in this episode. It’s what Ann Wilson calls her “leaving home” song, which got me thinking about other songs that have to do with taking a leap from the nest….”Moving Out” by Billy Joel comes to mind, for one. moody in paris 🖤 the fifth slide is a painting hanging in musée d’orsay that stopped us in our tracks, “the angelus.” it reminded us of our song “harvest,” and the story behind why shawn wrote it: a comparison between being a farmer & being a musician… planting seeds in hopes they’ll grow into nourishment & sustainability. as musicians our seeds are our songs. there is so much uncertainty in both occupations. sometimes the rains come, the crops grow, you’re provided for, and your hard work feeds others. on the other hand, droughts happen, late unexpected freezes… so many things out of your control. “harvest” was written at the start of our relationship and in many ways it is a realistic, confessional plea that if our dreams don’t come to fruition in the ways we hoped they would, that we would stay together and support each other. the older we get and the longer we’ve been touring, that song gets more real and palpable. we’ve seen so much together and have been at monumental highs and lows in this journey. the fear is always lurking there under the surface & who knows what the future will bring, but we wouldn’t trade this life for anything. #muséedorsay #folkduo #artimitateslife #behindthesong #folkmusician
