Homestead National Historic Park I never heard of it and it was established in 1936. You had to live on the land for five years, build a house on the property, and farm the land. There were 30 different states that were in the program. The program ended in 1971. YEP, 1971 in Alaska. You can actually access genealogy records at the park, using their computers. I've heard this about Ellis Island, but that was false (at the time). These computers have access to Ancestry.com, General Land Office records, and Fold 3 databases. EDWARD WIGHT WASHBURN-Born in Beatrice, NE, May 10, 1881, to William Gilmore Washburn and Flora Ella Wight, both of whom had moved to Nebraska from New England. He married Sophie de Veer in 1910 and they had 4 children. Edward Wight Washburn died, suddenly, of heart failure February 6, 1934. In spite of his short life, he has left a record of varied and valuable work which has given him a place of high rank among the chemists of his time. One of those valued works is the Washburn Equation. The Washburn equation plays a significant role in the operation of inkjet printers. I got to accompany Spatz on his longest ride ever today at the Homestead Cycling Tour 2023! . The original plan was the 40 mile route, but when we got to the turn around, Joe told us it was only another 3 miles to the Kansas border, AND there was a photo op sign...well...it ended up being 47 and change for the day! A drink with Dave afterward at Stone Hollow Brewing Company rounded out a very enjoyable day. . This building in Beatrice. NE, was built in 1911, and it’s a great building, but my favorite part is the neon sign for Poling Pharmacy which opened in 1950. The building was listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 2016 as a contributing building to the Beatrice Downtown Historic District. It is currently undergoing a rehabilitation project using the Nebraska Historic Tax Credit. Centenary United Methodist Episocal Church was built in 1930. I love the lights and windows. The church overall has a Gothic Revival feel, but the lights also have a Prairie influence. This building continues to serve an active congregation who cares about the maintenance and history of the building.
