Een mooie wandeling gemaakt op de Kop van Goeree met wandelvriendin @adriepapma. Het was een verkenning voor een toekomstige ‘Strandpalenwandeling’ waarbij we dankbaar gebruik konden maken van voorwerk, gedaan door geboren Goedereedenaar @jaapvanheest. Heel veel strandpalen staan hier nog op de plaats waar ze vroeger van groot nut waren voor de kustbescherming, en ze zijn goed onderhouden door het @waterschaphollandsedelta. Prachtige natuur ook. Dat wordt wel wat, deze toekomstige Strandpalenwandeling! Had a nice stroll with hike friend @adriepapma in nature area Kop van Goeree. It was an exploration for a to-be future ‘Beach pole walk’, thankfully making use of preliminary work by @jaapvanheest who was born on the island. Many beach poles are still standing where they used to be of great use for the defense of the coast against the sea, and they are well maintained by the water authority @waterschaphollandsedelta. Onlangs was ik weer eens op de Hors, de grote zandvlakte aan de zuidkant van Texel. Daar ontmoette ik opnieuw deze paal 4.16, met het laagste nummer op het eiland. Vroeger was 6 het laagste nummer, maar in de jaren zestig heeft men nog een stukje verder teruggenummerd tot aan de Mokbaai. Lately I visited De Hors again, the great sand plain at the south end of Texel. I encountered this pole 4.16 again, with the lowest number on the island. Reden om er zuinig op te zijn. De natuur gaat daar zijn eigen gang. Zo ook de duindoorns, die deze paal omarmen’. Let ook op de ‘diamantkop’ van de paal, bedoeld om regenwater snel af te voeren van het kopse hout. Je ziet ze meer op Ameland, maar ze blijven bijzonder. A gem in the Beach pole of the Week on Strandwachters (Dutch language) this time. ‘Pole 6.4 on the Green Beach of Ballum (Ameland),’ writes @boswachter_ameland, who uploaded it. ‘A beautiful region with lots of extraordinary birds and plants. Reasons to handle it with care. Nature follows its own path there. Was lucky enough to spend last weekend in #sandiego and went to #missionbeach #delmarbeach #lajollabeach and #coronadobeach These #seacreatures were EVERYWHERE! Their scientific name is Velella velella and their nickname is by-the-wind sailors bc they are pushed by warm winds and currents. They not always around but often show up en masse after powerful spring storms and during El Nino years, when warm water from the tropics is pushed toward Southern California.
