What a lovely eveving we had at the beautiful Akershus slottskirke in the heart of Oslo yesterday evening! More Christmas magic, this time more countryside Christmas mood - with very rustical classical music by Mozart, Haydn (both Joseph and Michael!), F. X.Gruber - and some Norwegian folk songs mixed in - sung very beautifully by Mari Askvik - Mezzosopran! Ditte Marie Bræin sang her great virtuoso coloraturas in Mozart/Händels ‘Erwach’ (also known as ‘Rejoyce!’), from Mozarts version of Händels Messiah. 🔥 And Steinar Granmo Nielsen brought both his lur and bukkehorn for some lovely rustical improvisations, too! 👏 Two more completely sold out concerts are promising for baroque music in Oslo! Maybe we should play some more concerts next year? You know what? In some weeks OSLO CIRCLES has existed 8 years! And it was in these wonderful locations of the very charming Oslo Ladegård that Oslo Circles had their very first concerts in 2015 - I always think back to those days when returning! Back then we played our Purcell program ‘One Charming Night’ with the fabulous countertenor David Hansen @guywhosingshigh , and we actually had two concerts on the same evening, right after each other. The 2nd concert was not completely sold out, so after attending the first concert a number of people went right to the box office to buy a ticket to the 2nd concert, too - so they saw Oslo Circles’ 1st concert twice! The young singer has recently made an impressing and critically acclaimed role debut as Bradamente (Händel: Alcina) at Opera North, and is about to sing her first Flora in Verdis La Traviata at the Norwegian Opera & Ballett in Oslo.
