I chuckle every time I look at this seagull fabric. 😁I’m expecting my newest dress to be lots of fun to wear! Fabric is cotton satin in a print by one of my favourite designers, Kirsten Katz. It’s light, soft and lovely against the skin. At 150cm wide, it is ideal for big skirts like the one on this dress. Find it in the decorator fabric section in @spotlightstores . Trim is Simplicity frayed denim suggested to me by Donna @monkyboyzmum . Pattern used is the babydoll by @neridahansenfabrics (for personal use only). After making my trial dress, I adjusted this one by shortening the bodice and lengthening the skirt to create a maxi (a midi on most women!) Somehow this @tulapink neon stripe looks brighter on the finished project than it did on the bolt 🤷‍♀️😂. I used the free #piecekeeper pattern by @patternsbyannie but modified it slightly by using vinyl instead of mesh for the front pocket. I also used a normal dress zipper rather than the suggested handbag zipper. This worked out well because the additional strip of fabric I needed to add to join the vinyl to the zip also added the extra length to the bag that I lost by my change in zipper choice. On the back I used the stargazer print from TP’s Roar line. If I had access to my stash I probably would have used the Good Hair Day / Lion print from Everglow here but I was limited by what my LQS had and I think this one works surprising well with the neon stripe. It has the added bonus of having built-in guide lines which made quilting the main panel super simple This one was a gift for a friend who’s just left in a 3 month caravan trip around the western side of Oz. I’m planning on making another one for myself; I just need to decide first if I’m going to tone down the brightness a bit by adding a different fabric for the front accents and leaving the neon stripe as the binding only 🤔

When your brooch ideas can come to life quite quickly working as a team with your love and having the right material on hand 🤭 I am not sure I'll ever get over Barbie, it's one of my favourite films! I had to watch it again to be sure I could make that statement. I had spent more than 10 months obsessing over it, listening to the soundtrack, watching clips and interviews. And after I continued to watch Margot Robbie attend events, her outfits perfectly representing Barbie and slowly transitioning back to her human form. Was my hype real? Or was it a bizarre fascination I just couldn't shake. Did the marketing get me? I was sold, I was ready to jump back into the Barbie World like a child, surely I was smarter than that? I took my daughter, just a couple of weeks old, to a mums and bubs session because I felt drawn to it, I didn't want to miss the opportunity to see it in cinemas, even with a newborn. Well, I'm ready to watch it again...and again 😅 it's real love 💙💗 The Barbie's are brilliant, the Ken's are brilliant. The real world frustrates me - just like irl 😉 the music is perfect, the costumes and setting are perfect. The themes are relevant and necessary, it's funny and witty but thought-provoking. I am a changed person as a result of watching this film. Hey peeps!! Sneak peek!!! 🩷🌸 I’ve been slowly working on revamping my first ever pattern which is my “𝑨𝒅𝒅𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒏” 𝑯𝒆𝒂𝒅𝒘𝒓𝒂𝒑 Pattern!! 🥰💕 It was the first pattern I ever designed. The conceptual artists have a story to tell, a message to send. So, Kahlo's art has always stood out to me, her messages so personal with such an impact! I'd also travelled to Tijuana, Mexico with my family when I was 11 years old. Aside from the devastating poverty, every child on the street trying to sell beautiful beaded bracelets and gum, which we bought to help them; the culture, the colours and food are incredibly beautiful. Zilla By @brooch_hero We've invested in ourselves and bought a laser cutter. I've wanted a cutesy Godzilla-esque design for a while now and this little fella came into fruition. The blue, glitter and marble acrylic was a no-brainer when we were deciding on colours. The grey body and light blue belly are a matte finish which really helps the glossy blue pop! There is no paint on this piece it is all just etched and inlaid acrylic pieces... Yes those tiny claws in the middle are all individual pieces. But the labour of love was worth it to see this piece come together. I'm grateful that my partner and I have worked on this one and will work on future pieces together. We have a few of these almost ready to go and they will be $50 each + postage. They are almost 7cm squared at the widest points. Only 2 layers high and I have rolling clasp brooch backs to make sure this piece is secure. It’s me , jumping into #memademay2024 and I’m already a day late Today I’m in the car waiting for my Mum after driving her to the bank and wearing my hand knitted poncho in Bellissimo 8ply I’ve been trying really hard over the last few years to increase the number of me-made garments in my wardrobe. I often get led astray by the super pretty things but this year I plan to focus on adding some much-needed basics. I am much more confident sewing wovens than I am knits so I will be focusing on making a pair of Ardley pants and a couple of Eustice T-shirts. If I get those done, I’ll be a happy woman.
