Title: ON THE OTHER SIDE. I Size: 30x40 inches Medium: Oil on canvas Year: 2023 . .. There are times when we think we can never be happy. Then we see the other side and find people who are always looking for a reason to be happy, that teaches us how to be happy. There are also times when we think we have the most troubled life. Then we see the other side and there are people who have so many troubles in one day of their life that our life seems good. There are times when we make a small mistake think we are always hard done by. Then we see the other side and there are people who are stripped off their right to live for something they never did. There are times when cry out loud when we aren't served with our favorite food. Then we see the other side and find people people begging and stealing for one time meal. There are also times when we are happy and forget everything around us. Then we see the other side and find people who are there for us even when they are down. There are times in life when we completely lose hope. Then we see the other side and find a 2 year old kid trying to walk, falls, stands, falls, stands and finally starts walking. There are times in life when people leave. Then we see the other side and we realize this is a vast world full of new people. Title: The bold and blind lover Size: 24x36 inches Medium: Oil on canvas Year: 2023 God is Love. The greatest risk one can ever take for love is being in love. Being in love changes a lot of things about you; it fills you with unexplainable joy and you find yourself making sacrifices and doing things you never thought you could do, especially for and because of another person. It's like a beverage that gives you wings. Love compels you to travel on a far distance journey through the valley of the shadow of death without fear. Love sees no fault and covers a multitude of sins. Love changes ones perception and attitude towards how they see life and things around them. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. Above all, love one another deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Think on this things! . . . #godislove #Art #bold #love #artistoninstagram #artistononstagram #artgallery #artlover #artoftheday🎨 #artcollector #artcollective #artcollectors #artcurator #artsy #black #blacklove #blackbeauty #blavklivesmatter #blackcollectors #blackwork #galleryowner #beyondbeauty #africanartsociety #africanarts #american #betterdays #blackcollectors #sothebys @iamnasboi

Ibrahim Mahama’s incredible art installation “Purple Hibiscus” is showing at Barbican Centre until 18th August ✨ “The new artwork by Ibrahim Mahama transforms our Lakeside Terrace, enveloping the building’s iconic concrete walls with approximately 2000 square metres of bespoke woven cloth. Purple Hibiscus has been created in collaboration with hundreds of craftspeople from Tamale in Ghana where the colossal panels of pink and purple fabric have been woven and sewn by hand, to be fitted to the brutalist planes of our building. 100 ‘batakaris’ – robes worn by Ghanaian kings – are embroidered onto the artwork. Often saved by families over generations, these precious textiles carry the imprints of the figures they once clothed, signifying the continued relevance of intergenerational knowledge. Ibrahim Mahama holds a deep interest in the life cycles of textiles and what can be learnt from the historical memories embedded within them“ via Barbican press release #ibrahimmahama #barbicancentre @ibrahimmahama3 @barbicancentre #africanartsociety #ghanaianartist

#ArtistInFocus “In my painting “Symbiosis” I was interested in bringing two different worlds together, the physical and the metaphysical to create a whole new view. I’ve explored the conscious and subconscious mind in my paintings in past and this painting is like a continuation of a personal conversation fueled by my curiosity about how the mind works. The conscious mind and the subconscious mind which I used the rectangular box to represent plays a huge role in the way we think, the way we respond to the things we think about and the way our thoughts influence the things around us. The staircase which is connected to the pilar linking the two portals (conscious and subconscious) can be seen as a channel/gateway into these two worlds.” @chidebe.chinedu.art Artwork Slide 1 Passenger Acrylic on canvas 30 x 37 inches 2024 Slide 2 Symbiosis Acrylic on canvas 30 x 37 inches 2024 #chidebechinedu #nigerianart #contemporary_african #africanartist #african #africanart #africancontemporaryart #africanartgallery #africanartsociety #africanartcollector #contemporaryafricanart

#wordoftheday @chidebe.chinedu.art Chinedu Chidebe is an emerging Nigerian artist exploring abstraction and the conceptual architecture of the human mind. Born in 1998 in Onitsha, in the eastern part of Nigeria, Chidebe has earned his Bachelor’s degree in Fine and Applied Arts from the University of Nigeria Nsukka. Initially working in conventional realist painting, Chidebe’s style has evolved over recent years towards abstract compositions. Inspired by cubism, his current work imagines the mind as a network of shapes, lines, and colors representing ephemeral thoughts and feelings. #chidebechinedu #nigerianart #contemporary_african #africanartist #african #africanart #africancontemporaryart #africanartgallery #africanartsociety #africanartcollector #contemporaryafricanart

Her large paintings bring light to the struggles faced by citizens of the Global South 📍 @galeriececilefakhoury Paris 🗓️ 7 September- 7 October 2023 💫 About the paintings The child is at the center of her works. Almost all of her paintings portray images of children or even teenagers, allowing her to build a bridge between the world of play and a global industrial and commercial order. American artists YoYo Lander and Nate Lewis have both recently opened their new show at Zidoun Bossuyt gallery in Paris 💫 ✨Both artists explore Color, form, process and the body through their new artwork ✨[1️⃣->4️⃣] “Still Tuning A Current” by @nloois “Lewis has extended his signature paper-carving techniques to explore connections among the visual languages of dance movement, anatomy, medical diagnostics and weather-pattern data. In the process he raises questions about the interrelatedness of physical movement, history and healing, particularly (but not only) in the context of African diasporic art and culture. Tuning the Current includes several new bodies of work: a series of life-size sculpted prints of figures in motion; abstract handmade paper “quilts” related in texture and patterns to the figurative works” ✨[5️⃣->7️⃣] “A Big Romance” by @yoyolander “YoYo Lander has called her work a journey into the “visceral and expressive” nature of the “essence of humanity.” The richly-pigmented and densely-detailed watercolor collage works Lander created for A Big Romance seek to uncover the organic nature of simply being and the beauty that comes with self-acceptance. The title alludes to the most important relationship of all: the one we have with ourselves. With the understanding that all bodies are political, the artist’s process begins with photographing subjects who are outside of the realm of the body types reified in contemporary art history and culture. Lander’s chosen subjects exude strength and self-possession.” 📍 @zidounbossuytgallery in Paris 75006 🗓️ On view 23 March - 13 May 2023 . . . . #zidounbossuytgallery #natelewis #stilltuningacurrent #yoyolander #abigromance #womenartist #collageartwork #womenbody #africanartsociety #blackamericanartist #blackart #blackartists

“Rites of Passage” exhibition, curated by Pejù Oshin @pejuoshin at Gagosian’s Britannia St gallery @gagosian , just opened this week and is just WOW. ✨The exhibition brings together 18 contemporary artists, who share a history of migration, and explores the idea of “liminal space”. The exhibition will continue until 29th April 2023. ✨The gallery space has been reconfigured in such a way that makes you feel you are moving from one stage of life/experience to another, as you move from one room to another. The diversity of medium used to create art makes the whole exhibition exciting, as you are surprised each time to turn to the next space. Loved to see many women artists in the show, enriching the conversation between artists’ artworks. ✨“Rites of passage is structured in correspondence with liminality’s three stages: separation, transition and return. Each of these phases addresses the act of movement, not only through individual experience, but also in the broader context of community. The exhibition examines the status of post colonial Black identity, specifically the “triple consciousness” experienced by members of the African diaspora when encountering counterparts who identify with local majority populations. The artists in the exhibition are further grouped together according to themes of tradition, spirituality, and place.” 1️⃣ @victorsozaboy 2️⃣3️⃣ @phoebe.boswell 4️⃣ @_quarm 5️⃣6️⃣ @asiko_artist Other artists on the show: Tunji Adeniyi-Jones

Pioneering Sudanese artist Kamala Ibrahim Ishag @kamala_ibrahim_ishag.official (b. 1939, Omdurman), solo exhibition is currently showing at Serpentine Galleries @serpentineuk until 29 Jan 2023 ✨About the artist “With a career spanning over sixty years, Kamala Ibrahim Ishag (b.1939) is a defining figure of modern and contemporary art. Her widely recognised paintings, where often human and plant forms intertwine, use a distinctive palette rooted in the colours of the sun, sand and sky and contemplate the cyclical flow of life and the intangible aspects of women’s lives in Sudan. In the early to mid-1960s, Ishag was part of the Khartoum School, an influential Sudanese modernist movement, which collectively forged an identity for the newly independent nation by drawing on both Arabo-Islamic and African artistic traditions. In the mid-1970s, she co-founded the Crystalists, a postmodern, conceptual group which challenged the male-dominated and identity-focused Sudanese art scene and advocated for a new aesthetic modelled on diversity, transparency and existentialist theory.” #kamalaibrahimishag #serpentinegalleries #sudaneseartist #africanartist #africancontemporaryart #sudanesecontemporaryart #africanartsociety #womenartist #womenart #crystalistmovement #khartoumschool

American visual artist Barbara Chase-Riboud (b.1939, Philadelphia) @barbara_chase_riboud first UK solo exhibition “Infinite Folds” is currently showing at Serpentine Gallery @serpentineuk in London and takes us through her seven decades of art practice exploring various techniques of sculpture, enriched by her experiences through her travelling across Western and Eastern Europe, West Asia, North Africa and South-East Asia. ✨A visual artist, a sculptor, a poet, a novelist.. Barbara Chase-Riboud’s powerful creativity is found throughout the exhibition, from the materials used, the interpretation of key figures such as Malcom X, Josephine Baker or Cleopatra through her technique ✨About the Paris based artist Barbara “The US sculptor, poet and historical novelist Barbara Chase-Riboud has had an incredible career spanning seven decades. Her breakout moment as a visual artist came in 1957, when she participated in the first Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy. Chase-Riboud learned the traditional technique of lost-wax bronze casting, which she has incorporated into her distinctive, hybrid approach to abstract sculpture, characterised by an interplay between folds of materials and a deep engagement with history. Travel and a fascination with powerful women have shaped the way Chase-Riboud sees the world, as exemplified by her series of sculptures dedicated to the Egyptian queen Cleopatra and a new monumental work inspired by the dancer and civil rights activist, Josephine Baker. ” via artnewspaper #barbarachaseriboud #serpentinegallery #africanartsociety #womensculptors #blackwomensculptors

Artwork by artist Stacey Gillian Abe (b. 1990, Uganda) who is showing her paintings as part of her first solo show in London “Shrub-let of Old Ayivu” which opened today at @unitlondon ✨Exhibition on view 22 Nov 2022 - 27 Jan 2023 ✨About the paintings “Abe’s work understands the significant role that indigo and fabric have played in positioning the black body throughout history and is interested specifically in how far this history has seeped into the present day. The artist’s paintings seem to subvert the symbolic significance of indigo; it appears as a dominant colour in her oeuvre to allow the black body to be seen in a different light. In Abe’s own words: “Indigo for a skin tone in my work signifies a tribe, a breed of black, a people that are not limited to social, economic, cultural, political or historical constraints.” In Shrub-let of Old Ayivu, Abe also demonstrates her fascination with indigo via its connection to cloth and material. Her fascination manifests as an exploration of the relationship between cloth and the body. Embroidery and cloth are therefore strong visual elements throughout Abe’s body of work, enabling her to revisit the traditional, historical and personal significance attached to fabric.” via the press release ✨ The must-see exhibition was graced by the performance of the Congolese soukous musicians – Kanda Bongo Man (video posted last here) #staceygillianabe #unitlondon #africanartsociety #ugandanartists #womenartists #womenpainters #contemporaryart #londonartist #kandabongoman

Title: Illumination Artist:Ekata Isaac Year:2022 Medium:Oil on canvas Size:2×3ft The power of light is what brings about intellectual or spiritual understanding of any subject matter. When there's no light in our lives or home's, darkness prevails, and hope, strength, faith, victory disappears because you don't know what may come on you at that time, because you can't see, and it's light that's strengthens one's vision.
