Last night the crew got to see the full technical rehearsal of Frankenstein 1930 with all of the special effects in place. I am at a loss for words, it was magnificent. Nothing about this production is ‘amateur’ the performances are of an extraordinary caliber, the attention to detail in the set and the props is superb, and the special effects and production is just breathtaking. You will feel like you are watching a London play or something that wouldn’t be out of place at the Marlowe. If you do not see this production you will have missed out. Minstrel is up for adoption! She would suit somebody who lived by themselves, or as a couple. She’s very timid, but once she gets to know you, she’s very affectionate. She is food orientated and once she knows that you are the hand that feeds her, she will, be like putty in your hands! Just don’t touch the belly or try to pick her up! She has left outside the majority of her life, and came into Rescue when the lady that used to look out for her had to move. She would suit somebody who kept her as an inside cat, or perhaps had an enclosed garden or catio. Within time I know that she would be such a softy but she needs to gain trust with somebody and needs somebody who has the patience to work with her, and doesn’t need immediate affection. Do you know somebody who could give her what she needs? She is 14 years young and acts like a kitten with no health problems. The "Fright Knights' Dragon Forge". My entry for the #classicstylecastlecontest It's kept burning by the wingless green dragon Ogwen, who is chained at the rear of the forge. He blasts his flames through the swivel door behind the Forge. Well, he does with a little prompt from the lance of the guard hiding in the tree trunk of course 😆. Sadly, the life expectancy of the guard isn't very long 😉 The glow of the Forge is so bright, it can be seen for miles in the night sky. Serving as a beacon to Willa and Hubble Bubble the witch twin sisters. As they return home upon their brooms, after carrying out evil deeds across the distant Castle Realms. There is a skeleton in the tower, with a bat on it's head, crawling up out of the Forge.This is a fun way to disguise/incorporate the milky white lever on the vintage 4.5v battery box. The core parts come from 6087 Witch's Manor, adding in the red roof and spiral staircase from Dragon Masters. It's built around the principle of incorporating the vintage battery box (like the 744 set I loved as a boy), plus light brick. I used red arches from 6097, to replicate that Fright Knight aesthetic/style. The large barrel also echoes a small build in the Dacta 9376 set, which was mostly Fright Knights. I would have preferred to use thick baseboards from the Fright Knight sets, but needed to keep the part count down. I allowed myself 2 modern parts: the large neon-orange flame and trans-red bat parts inside the Forge. Both can be changed for classic trans bricks if required. So I've tried to meet the judging criteria of: "...fit into the vintage castle theme, ideas and originality". I've kept the build to 75 parts exactly. Sensei Wu and his Dragon Clan of the Dragon Dojo 🐉🀄 I only have 10 of the original classic white samurai and ninja figures this faction is based around. As a purely classic faction, I imagined them as 7 Samurai and would use the extra torsos for a sensai and other characters. However, I've expanded them with modern figures for the purposes of my hybrid world. Although, still trying to keep a classic feel to them. I've used some old Sensei Wu minifigures to bulk these up. The black and white figures with dragons on the back, being an obvious match for the originals and their imagery. Fortunately, in my world, the writing on the front translates to Dragon Clan 😉. The main character is their leader, Sensei Wu. In keeping with the other factions, he has a diplomat on the left, and to the right is his Dojo Master. To collect highly prized nectar, from the Giant Bluebells that grow there. It's a precious and sort after commodity because the Bluebells only flower for a very short time each year. Not to mention the perils of trespassing into the Giant's garden! Needing to be quiet, so as not to awaken the malcontent giant from his slumber. The Blue Ninja Clan of Koreyasu I forgot to mention in the last post that the Red Ninja Clan of Fu Manchu are the baddies in the region, allied to the Dragon Emperor. They are the enemies of the Blue Ninja Clan, battling them for dominance of the region. Again, I've kept these pretty much classic. Adding a sprinkling of newer figures and parts. The main characters are the Leader and his wife. Their daughter is the female Samurai alongside whom, is the Blacksmith. On the other side is their diplomat for connecting them to my wider castle world. Along with a Martial Arts teacher. I've always had a soft spot for these figures and the Ninja Theme as a whole. So great to finally get round to sharing them with you all, together with enjoying seeing them set up for myself 😃 The song lyrics are a fun nod to the Theme having a short life 🎶🎵 After posting, I've noticed that I omitted the clos-up photo of the archers. Meet Basil's Filthy and Gorgeous: Battle Jester and Innekeep. I have an array of other Fright Knight characters I'll share soon. However, I was keen to share these first as they're the sort of characters most people have overlooked and haven't represented, or even thought about for the Fright Knights. The idea for the Jester was inspired by the torso with its dual colours. I have my Fright Knights divided into 2 groups. The Witch's have their own group of characters, including a Jestro Nexo Figure as they're Jester. This Battle Jester is part of Basil's grouping. I've shown some different combinations of the axe parts for the Battle Jester, as I'm still undecided which I prefer. I also wanted to show the hair he has when not wearing his Battle Helm. His visor is a bit ostentatious and exaggerated, which I thought suited the character. I would have 1 blue horn in the headgear, but that colour isn't available, sadly. The choice of head is because I have a surplus of them from adapting the Vampire Guitarist figures. So I want to make use of them where I can, and it suits the character. I've always envisaged them seperate because I imagine Basil was originally a King/Ruler, who sold his soul to the Witches. So he has the bulk of the army and his own castle in the lowlands of their Realm. The Witches have a Citadel high up a clifftop (like in the brochures), with all their Minions and Horde creatures. The Innekeep is for an Inne situated in Basil's area, as even Fright Knights and the Horde like a drink (or two 🍻). I imagine the vials on her leg print as 'magical potion shots'. I have another minifgure I might put with her, to be a type of heavy (bouncer), as fights often break out amongst the Fright Knight's eclectic mix of groups. I used the smiley side of the head here, as she's enticing people in for a drink. Meet Fu Manchu and his Red Ninja Faction I've tried to keep these pretty classic, with just a few modern figures and parts. That way, I am able to strip them back to be period specific in the future. The mounted Samurai are based around the Red Shogun minifgure cas209, which is quite collectable and expensive now. There are 2 of the originals lined up on the right of the lead characters. I actually have 10 more new ones boxed away, which I can't get to at present. Much to my chagrin now, when I downsized some time back, I removed them from their boxes and threw the boxes away 😱🤦♂️ Anyway, back to the lead characters. I've given Fu Manchu a wife and also a diplomat, who can serve as a link to my wider castle world. Horn Hammerhand, Blacksmith to the Fright Knights. Accompanied by his Minions 😈 Despite the name's obvious similarities to Helm Hammerhand from LOTR, that actually isn't where it comes from. It was driven by wanting to create someone with a hammerhand. Which thought, then led me to Hell Boy, the head gear and the name lol. The hammerhand isn't technically legal. However, being a typical man, I saw a hole and decided to stick an appendage in it 😅 My plan is for these to occupy the much maligned 6087 Witche's Manor set. Taking her flying contraption away from it and adding a classic style Forge. Imagine the set on a cliff top, as in the catalogues.
