The top result, of $1,646,700, belongs to the F.P. Journe Vagabondage commissioned by the then principal of the Ferrari F1 team, Jean Todt, to celebrate Schumacher's 7th world championship. In the same premise, but celebrating his 6th win, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak went for $457,380. As a box set, his 5 F.P. Journe ruthenium collection sold for 1.8 million. Finally, his rare Rolex Daytona 6262 went for $346,500. FP Journe New York Skyline With their pure metal dial bases and separate sub-dials, classic Journe watches are a natural medium for engraving. The New York Skyline series, probably made up of three unique pieces, was created in collaboration with Cellini to commemorate 9/11. The watches depict the city’s classic monuments of the late 19th/early 20th century: Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge, Chrysler Building. The aesthetics of this period perfectly match those of FP Journe, whose sub-dials could be used directly as clocks on these buildings, as well as the mechanical character of the watches. FP Journe’s genius is to have created a style that is new, yet infinitely classic and as if it had always existed. In this respect, these pieces could very well be commemorative watches launched on the inauguration day of the buildings in question. 1. Officially launched in November last year at Dubai Watch Week, the goal of the platform is to give watch buyers all the information about where a particular watch that they are looking for is available, the prices being quoted for them, and the prices they are transacting at. However, in the case of watches at auction, the website allows a much deeper access. EveryWatch offers statistics on sale prices at auctions, which is public and validated data. Anyone looking at a specific reference can know that a certain amount was paid for that reference at an auction, and compare it with the asking price of the watch. The data helps glean the actual value of the watch, important for both buying and selling. For collectors, that also means being able to track the value of their collection. Another very interesting piece at @sothebyswatches New York auction next month. A @patekphilippe reference 10, a yellow gold curved ‘tank’ style watch manufactured in 1913. A very attractive exploded numerals with cathedral style hands. Quite interestingly the reference 10 was launched in 1917. This example sold in 1919, making this one of the first reference 10’s to be manufactured. Incredible to think it was 6 years from when it was made to when it was sold

The case is crafted from a blue PVD-coated cobalt alloy, integrating the entire movement into the case structure. Remarkably, Piaget has almost halved the previous record. In 2018, Bulgari’s Octo Finissimo Tourbillon was 3.95mm thick. Now, Piaget’s watch is only 2.00mm. Though Bulgari still holds the record for the thinnest automatic Tourbillon, Piaget’s Altiplano Ultimate is a manual wind with a distinctive mechanism to be revealed later. One of the standouts for me for the New York auction catalogue from @phillipswatches . It is a reference 6102 from @rolex. It has a very nice bombé yellow gold case with lovely blue enamel dial. A perfect blue dial for the summer 🌞🕶️

After all the uproar over Only Watch in the second half of last year, the auction was postponed indefinitely. That would have been the end of it, until it was announced a month or so ago that it would go on 10 May 2024. A glance at all the results reflected that many of the watches sold for just a % above their auction estimates. While this does not sound bad in silo, it is a stark comparison to 2021's results where most were sold at many multiples over their estimates. Granted, the usual suspects like Patek Philippe (CHF 15.7m vs CHF 1.8m estimate), Rexhep Rexhepi (CHF 2.1m vs CHF 150k) & FP Journe (CHF 2m vs CHF 400k) still performed tremendously well. However, to balance things off, we had several lots that went within or under their estimates; H Moser & Cie x Mb&f and Gerald Genta come to mind. Was this because of the controversy surrounding the show? Or was this just a symptom of the slowing of the larger watch market? Maybe it was because Christie’s had a cyber attack that prevented online bidding.
