Last Month, on 18 April, at the UN Security Council, the US vetoed UN granting a full membership to Palestine. Today's overwhelming result in UNGA (UN General Assembly)'s vote in favour of Palestine's full UN membership surely puts pressure on the US to reconsider its position (not that I am hopeful the US will do the right thing). As I have said repeatedly ever since the '80s when I reviewed the UN system, the structure of the UN is nothing but undemocratic. Anyone can see that if one really takes a look at the privilege the permanent UN Security members (the US, the UK, Russia, China, and France) enjoy by exercising their veto power. That MUST be changed. Originally these 5 countries were the ones that were in possession of nuclear weapons. Syria once again called on the #DonorCountries that suspended their funding to the agency to reverse their decision and continue providing support for the #PalestinianPeople in their homeland and in the host countries, including Syria. During the High-Level Thematic Event on Tourism, Dato’ Roslan emphasized that the economic and geopolitical challenges continue to pose significant challenges to the sustained recovery of international tourism and confidence levels. It is important to build resilience in our tourism sector, among others, strengthening the infrastructure, enhancing emergency preparedness, and diversifying tourism offerings. Thus, the Malaysian Government in partnership with UNDP Malaysia has launched the Sustainable Tourism Recovery project in December 2022. It aims to increase resilience in targeted communities, while also improving risk management to mitigate the commodification and potential exploitation of natural and cultural assets.
