Street Party fun at Wahoo! ARC Europe were welcomed at the local bar in St George’s Bermuda for happy hour which is so popular it involves the street being closed. Plenty of Bermuda’s national drink, Dark ‘n Stormy cocktails, were going down a treat. It was great to see so many of the new boats joining the rally here in Bermuda mingling and chatting with fellow participants who have just arrived form St Maarten. Welcome to Bermuda! 17 out of the 33 yachts in this year’s ARC Europe have arrived at St George’s Harbour with a further 10 boats due overnight. Despite Leg 1 (from St Maarten) being a little slower than previous years, all crews have had a good journey and are arriving in high spirits. With formalities complete for those arrived, this evening the programme of events begin with Happy Hour at Wahoo Bar in the centre of St George’s. The ARC Europe office opened on a lovely sunny day in St Maarten and jumped into action with 17 boats already in IGY Simpson Bay Marina and coming in to meet the Yellow Shirt team. Monday evening saw participants meeting up for the first event on the programme at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club at the lagoon entrance for Welcome Drinks, kicking off the 8-week programme of events. Drinks and delicious canapes were served under a canopy of hundreds of burgees from all over the world and a good time was had by all. Mark Townsend is our Principal Race Officer (PRO) and a triple threat — only one of 5 people in the world who have credentials of international race officer, judge and umpire. Josje Hofland is our Head of the Jury, and comes back for her second St. Maarten Heineken Regatta on the jury, 25 years later! 🆕 Brand New! 🆕 When the @vacationstmaarten approached us to rebrand the destination following the double impacts of Hurricane Irma and COVID-19, we knew this would be a chance not just to impact tourism on the island but also to make a mark on the world stage. We drew inspiration from the amazing and diverse people of St. Maarten and Saint Martin—from the Dutch and French sides, the food, the culture, the art, adventure, nightlife and its status as a hub for travel in the region. We recognized that one of the most exciting and vibrant islands in the Caribbean needed a brand that was equally as bold. On December 1, the Big Idea team was honored to speak at the launch event in on island to reintroduce St. Maarten as #TwiceTheCaribbean and share that work with the people who helped shape it. Our very own Steve Defontes, Founder and President, Grace Capuzzo, VP of Brand Strategy, and Pablo Pedro, Creative Director, unveiled the new logo and campaign to the delight of the stakeholders and officials in attendance. There’s much more ahead for St. Maarten tourism and this campaign, and even more for travelers to experience on St. Maarten.
