Let’s celebrate Miss Ellie today! She has made a positive impact on thousands of students since launching her studio 57 years ago. The founding of Dance Incorporated by director Ellie Kueper-Mennucci started with two years of humble beginnings, teaching lessons in the basement of her Florissant home in 1966-67. Word spread and after much prodding from her growing student enrollment, the studio moved out of her basement into a one-room studio in Florissant. Ellie named the studio Fleur-de-lis Dance Academy, inspired by the Fleur-de-lis featured on the city of St. Louis flag. After a move to West County in 1978, Miss Ellie and Dance Incorporated have become an important and lasting part of the St. Louis dance community. It's #ThankADanceTeacherDay and I'm thanking Miss Sandra for everything she did for me. She was more than a dance teacher. She was a mentor in many ways and she made sure I got to keep dancing when money was tight and I was going to have to quit. For all the dance teachers out there I want you to remember that you make a difference. Some students come back years later and tell you and some don't...but you change lives. I'm grateful for all of the years I got to teach dance in studios and public high schools, and for all of the amazing performance opportunities that have come my way.
