Hello I have been asked about spaces for next term. I would love to run classes during June and July, but I have to get a minimum number to run, and as it stands we still need some more friends to play with ☺️ It will be a 7 week term and classes will take place on Monday mornings at Rodbourne Methodist Church, from 9:30-10:10. The whole 7 week term will cost £45.50, while a Pay As You Go option will be available each week at £7 per session. Since announcing that the @themumclub is starting up in Swindon the support has been incredible. Something that has made this even more special is the amount of messages I’ve had from local Mums. Saying how excited they are to FINALLY be able to get out and meet new friends with children around the same age. Some recently moved to the area, be the only one in their circle to have children, are a little apprehensive to get out and about, every reason is valid. Please know your not alone. I think we have all felt like this at times. Motherhood is lonely, but it doesn’t have to be. We need to keep showing up for each other and ourselves. I mentioned that I’m fairly new to Swindon, having moved here 6 months ago. So I totally understand how it feels when you don’t know anyone in the area but also how daunting it can be to get that coat on & try new things. We use our big parachute every week in class, but have you ever wondered why? Getting all of the children together around the parachute not only teaches them about teamwork – that parachute won’t fly if I do it all on my own will it – but they learn rhythm and hand-eye coordination, as well as strengthening their upper bodies. The details of our games also help them to develop their imaginations, and even language and numeracy skills as we count up to a big wave on 3... On a cold day like this, when you don’t feel like being outside, you can make your own ‘balancing blocks’ in your living room. They’re always such a hit in classes (and when Freya finds them and sets them up here 😂). It’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself and my story, so here goes ☺️ I’m Gemma, mum to two girls and owner / teacher at Tots & Twirls / Steps & Slings. I started attending Steps classes (under the old identity, longtime followers will know ☺️) when my eldest was just 6 weeks old, and loved the dancing, the joy of wearing my little girl close to me, and most of all, the support and sense of community that we had in classes. I moved to the front of the class as teacher in January 2020, teaching via video link where lockdowns required, then in December 2021, with my youngest having replaced her big sister in the sling, I went from class leader, to owner of the business. I renamed and rebranded to create a new business and try to reflect my own take on things. I continue to work to make sure that we all get the best out of the classes, both for Tots & Twirls, and Steps & Slings, and I still have exciting ideas for the future. If you’re looking for something to do with little ones this term, then you need to know: What is Tots & Twirls? Well, since you ask, it’s an active play class for young children, suitable from when they begin walking on their own, right up until they’re 5. (If your little one isn’t walking yet, ask me about Steps & Slings classes instead). At Tots & Twirls, we use a variety of props in combination with action songs, games, imaginative adventures, and dancing, to enable your child to develop their physical and social skills in a friendly and supportive environment. Classes are guided by myself (Gemma 👋), and parents/ carers join in with their little ones in order to guide their play, although of course if the grownups aren’t very mobile (i.e your younger baby is permanently attached to you 😉), then you can rely on me to help and guide your bigger children during the class, with your supervision. I know it’s only November, but I just have to mention it briefly - Christmas! We’re having a Christmas party at the start of the school holidays, and you’re all invited. It’s going to be all the usual Tots & Twirls fun, with the Christmas spirit in full swing, plus a few little treats as well. As an independent children’s entertainment provider, I have complete freedom to plan all of my classes myself, and can be completely flexible with regard to themes and content. If I see that something isn’t working for the class on a particular day, then I am able to change things around and find something that does work, because just like us grownups, sometimes the children aren’t quite feeling it either! With almost 3 years’ experience at teaching classes, I have a good repertoire of games, activities and songs to fall back on. Children are never bored with their development centred games in my classes as I can change things and find something to get them going. 🌟 Introducing Tots & Twirls: Family Time 🌟 As parents we have to find things to do that keep everyone happy, and we know that little ones often want to copy older children, so I’ve been working on a class that they can enjoy together. Family Time classes are suitable for toddlers to attend with their siblings / cousins etc, from sitting babies to those sassy preschoolers. Sessions will be a little ‘calmer’ than our regular classes to ensure the safety of our smaller friends 🙂. There are two special classes at Coleview Community Centre over the summer, so come along with the kids and see them play and learn together. 👀 if you are a one child family, or your other children are too big or small to join in, of course you can still come ☺️, just select the Small Family ticket, for a reduced price.
