I haven't bought a new Funko Pop in years, but could not resist when I saw this Banjo-Kazooie figure. It looks great and I love the diorama that recreates the original Nintendo 64 box art. Hey y’all! ☺️ Today I am posting my CIB copy of Banjo-Tooie for Nintendo 64 with the left facing rumble pak! Banjo-Kazooie’s box on the other hand; had both, either a right or left facing rumble pak depending on when it was manufactured, the left facing edition tends to be harder to come across but can still be found here and there. A preview of Kameo: Elements of Power from the GamesMaster December 2005 issue I found while looking through my old magazines. Kameo was a Rare game famous for its long development cycle, beginning in development for the Nintendo 64, then GameCube then Xbox, before ending up as an Xbox 360 launch title. I got it with my 360 and was blown away by it, especially those battlefield scenes with thousands of troops and being able to transform into different monsters on a whim. I have fond memories of the game but I got stuck and never finished it. Would really like to give it another try soon. When Microsoft bought Rare, one of the biggest losses seemed to be that of future Perfect Dark games. While Rare had made many great games on the N64, Perfect Dark and Goldeneye stood out because they were exclusives that were so different to anything Nintendo would make themselves, losing a mature first person shooter, with big franchise potential to Microsoft seemed like a huge loss. It didn't quite turn out that way, because Perfect Dark Zero turned out to be a major disappointment and the franchise has yet to make an appearance since, though a reboot is currently in development. But was Perfect Dark Zero really that bad? Personally, I found that it was a a pretty flawed game, that was never going to live up to the lofty expectations, but it was still quite good fun with some creative mechanics and weaponry and a really fun multiplayer. Sure, it's not up to the standards of the original Perfect Dark but if you can look past it's flaws I still think there's fun to be had with this one. I think Kameo: Elements of Power is quite an underrated game. If it had released on a Nintendo console, as originally planned, I reckon it would have been more popular. In some ways, it feels quite different to the Rare games that preceeded it, but in others (especially character design) it looks right at home alongside the rest. Besides being a Rare character, Kameo is very qualified to be a Diddy Kong Racing 2 character for a number of reasons. In her game (among references to other Rare games) you can make the Pummel Weed transformation look just like Mumbo and you can find a cabin where you can listen to a new version of the Banjo-Kazooie theme tune (which includes Banjo's voice). Meanwhile, she also appeared along with Banjo and Conker (and Joanna Dark) in the special trailer created to mark Microsoft's acquisition of Rare, and Kinect Sports Rivals also showed that she was on Rivals Island at the same time as Banjo and other Rare characters. There are lots of other little things that connect Kameo to the broader Rare and Donkey Kong universe too, but they're the highlights. While I don't like it as much as a lot of other Rare games, I still have quite a soft spot for it and think fans who have yet to play it should definitely take it for a spin. Devil Bottles does appear in both the Nintendo 64 and Xbox Live Arcade versions of Banjo-Tooie, but only as an icon during the Tower of Tragedy quiz. Originally, he was planned to be playable in a special mode called Bottles' Revenge where he can possess enemies, giving a second player control over them and allowing them to work against the first player, who'd control Banjo and Kazooie. It cannot be legitimately unlocked, but Bottles' Revenge is still in the game and has a whole special cutscene where Bottles spirit transforms into Devil Bottles and he explains that he's going to cause havok for them. I'm surprised, and a little sad, that it's never been properly implemented. Who knows - maybe one day somebody will find a way to activate it, through glitches or cheat codes. After all, to this day fans are finding new secrets in Donkey Kong 64. Childhood Nostalgia turned into a physical memento. I firts came in contact with the Toads way back when I was around 5. I started gaming with 4years Old and it was one of these Days. Looking at the Wall of SNES Games, "you can Pick one", my Mom said. So I was looking at this crazy Cover and was like "these look like Turtles. This must be cool or even cooler". So I got it. I always played it. Never beat it. Probably should have choosen Turtles in Time, but dang did I love this Game. Althou i never got past the Snake Level. Lol. Who doesn’t love Rare, this developer brought us so many classic games. It’s great to have them all on one disc with Rare replay. Me and my daughter had hours of fun on this one when she was younger. Playing through Banjo Kazooie was a highlight, love that game. What was your highlight of the #NintendoDirectPartnerShowcase? Maybe not the strongest outing, but at least it wasn't farming sim central this time. Another Crab's Treasure looks visually nice but I'm not a soulslike guy myself. Was Endless Ocean really a big deal to end on and I'm just not interested or was it a weird call to you too? I never played the original Epic Mickey (or even knew it was a 3D platformer) so that a blip on my radar now. They TEASED me with a Rareware logo. I thought it'd be Banjo-Tooie but no. Killer Instinct music built nice hype but then it was a montage so I thought some kind of Rare Replay... wrong again. Neat titles but what a tease. Glad I have the expansion sub for... Blast Corps :/ The star of the show for me was Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection. I loved these games and replayed not too long ago on Xbox but now it can go ONLINE again! How do you feel about game compilations? #RareReplay I tend to like the idea of taking a bunch of old games, putting them in one package, and selling them as one big bargain. I feel like this mentality really hit its stride in the 2000s when companies realized that, while their old games alone were unimpressive in today's market, putting a bunch of these old games into a single package deal could easily still be enticing. Plug N Plays ran rampant on the shelves, but the compilation games for handhelds and consoles caught my eye a lot more. Midway Arcade Treasures, Mega Man Anniversary Collection, and Namco Museum to name a few. It was great! Nowadays I think game companies are a little too savvy for their own good about 'em. Why make one big collection when you can make a few volumes or just do singular HD remakes, right? But Rare Replay is a fantastic package of gems both known and hidden. And I miss that. I feel like soon we'll just all have to sub to streaming game services where we own nothing and are at the mercy of what we're allowed to access. Today's Sunday Shelfie continues the Rareware theme with two of the original titles they produced after moving from Nintendo to Microsoft. Neither were bad games, Ghoulies is fun albeit repetitive and quite simplistic, while Kameo is a great idea that never quite lives up to its potential. Kameo was in fact one of the main reasons I bought an Xbox 360 because it stood out to me at E3 so much when originally announced for Gamecube. Did you ever play either of these games? C- Conkers Bad Fur Day Probably from a non gamers perspective, if you took one look at Conker The Squirrel, you’d think kids character...but Conker’s Bad Fur Day is anything but a kids game. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Conker The Squirrel’s best known appearance is this game however he has appeared in other games such as Conker’s Pocket Tales on the Gameboy Colour, Diddy Kong Racing on the Nintendo 64, Conker Live & Reloaded on the original Xbox, Project Spark on the Xbox One & Rare Replay on Xbox One. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Conker’s Bad Fur Day is filled with memorable characters in hilarious moments such as Greg The Grim Reaper (my personal favourite character), Birdy The Scarecrow and of course The Great Mighty Poo with his beautiful song that goes something like this 🎵“I Am The Great Mighty Poo, And I’m Going To Throw My shit at you!” 🎵 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Eventually Conker’s Bad Fur Day was remade for the original Xbox with updated graphics and Xbox Live support, but some of the profanity was turned down a notch. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I remember shortly after the release of Conker’s Big Reunion which was a part of Project Spark, there were plans to create Conker’s Bad Fur Day with the Project Spark engine. Beat Perfect Dark (the XBox 360 / XBLA remaster from Rare Replay) by Rare on XBox One on way back 4/8/23. I am not a Perfect Dark fan--this is one of those that can't live up to its nostalgia. The shiny visuals are nice, but ironically, now that the remaster is some fifteen years old, the OG probably looks better. The controls are not handled as well as the recent GoldenEye re-release (which is just a better game). The first level or two are good and feel like a GoldenEye meets Blade Runner. The game devolves into silliness about aliens which is later further exaggerated into Timesplitters (which I've also never been able to get into). The last level was unforgiving and tedious, I almost quit. Today's #twofortuesday is a Conker double whammy, with Bad Fur Day on the Nintendo 64 and Live and Reloaded for the Xbox. Conker's Bad Fur Day seemed like the very opposite of a Nintendo game, filled with bad language, toilet humour and pop culture references galore. It came as no surprise that it was published by THQ in Europe instead of Nintendo. Still, this very much has Rare and Nintendo's identity all over it, with 3D platforming reminiscent of Mario 64 and Banjo. It's rude, and crude but it's also often hilarious and has great variety in its stages. I'm a huge fan. Live and Reloaded combined a full remake of the original with an expanded online multiplayer mode. In many respects the remake improves on the original. It has smoother gameplay, tighter controls and visuals that still look gorgeous, especially through Xbox backwards compatibility on One X / Series X. Bizarrely though, it has more censorship than the N64 original! Both have their pros and cons but I'd definitely recommend giving them a go as they're lots of fun, infuriating racing stage asides! It has been AGES since I've drawn/colored a piece traditionally, specially with pencils. I think the result could've been better but whatever, I'm feeling rusty again after not drawing that much. In October 1994 @rareltd released a 2d fighting arcade game called Killer Instinct only in North America & not the PAL countries as their version of Street Fighter inspired by its gameplay from the SNK fighting games & by the fatalities of Mortal Kombat under the direction of Ken Lobb Originally published by Midway for the arcades it got ported to Super Nintendo & Game Boy in 1995 during its partnership with Nintendo Its success leads Rare to release a sequel to KI called Killer Instinct 2 for the arcades in 1996 just months before it became a launch title for Nintendo under the name of Killer Instinct Gold 17 years later it became a launch title for Xbox One as a reboot to the 1994 original game published by Microsoft developed by Double Helix & then later @irongalaxystudios I used to play the og Killer Instinct on Super Nintendo at 1 of my mum's old mate's places years ago & I totally am terrible at it. Played KI Gold on N64 at my after school caretaker's which is sort if ok ish it'll be great if Rare would at least add more characters to the roster & bring back some KI characters like Eyedol Thunder & Cinder as unlockables but I think the best KI game I played is definitely an Xbox One version & I've been practising my ultra combos even though I'm terrible at it & it may not be as popular as Street Fighter & Mortal Kombat Killer Instinct will always hold a special place in my heart 😊 I usually play Fulgore as my main but I wouldn't mind playing other characters too like Jago Orchid Sabrewulf Tusk & Hisako Who's your favourite character from Killer Instinct?
