It’s Telehealth Tuesday! Where I talk about all things Telehealth for APRNs! With multistate licenses and seeing patients in various states— ⭐️ First and Most Importantly ⭐️:: The best place to get info ℹ️ on laws and regulations for APRNs is the state’s BON website and the laws / statutes/ regulations sections. With that said, the American Medical Association has 2 PDFs / charts available for reference (one for scope of practice and another for prescriptive authority), that gets updated every few years. You'll have the chance to learn how to make and play a kukui nut hū (spinning top). The kukui nut tree, also known as candlenut, is an incredible "canoe" plant with diverse uses, including dyeing, varnishing, and even a source of wood. It is also used for adornments, as a source of food, and most importantly, as a source of light throughout Polynesia. Happy National Park week! In honor of NP week, I wanted to share our favorite national parks to visit with kids and some tips to make your trip enjoyable. Crater Lake National Park - This beautiful national park in Oregon is a little off the beaten path so you’ll find smaller crowds with the same great views you’d expect from a national park. Recommendations: stay on site at the lodge for spectacular sunsets, take a boat ride around the crater, hike to the rim to feel like you are on top of the world. It’s going to be miserable but don’t skip it. Stay: 3 nights/2 days 📸 1,2 Banff National Park - don’t let the crowds deter you. It is worth every minute you have to spend searching for a parking spot. Recommendations: break up the hikes with canoes on Lake Louise, HIKE it will help you get away from the crowds, ride the Banff gondola, stay at one of the Fairmount properties for adventure meets luxury, drive the Icefields Parkway. Stay: 8 nights/7 days Camera: 3,4 Zion National Park - it’s hard to beat Zion. World class hiking, gentle bike paths, watering holes for splashing and tubing, and a spectacular slot canyon to hike through. Recommendations: stay at the RV park along the river - it’s the closest I’ll come to camping and OMG was it special, do the Narrows even with little kids, spend a relaxing day biking and finding your favorite watering hole. Stay: 8 nights/7days 📸: 5 Olympic National Park - this park is so special because it encompasses so much acreage and represents so many different climates. You’ve got lush rainforests and tree covered mountains! Recommendations: split your time between the coast and Port Angeles for hurricane ridge, take a day trip to Victoria, BC, go biking riding in Port Angeles, leave early AF for Hoh Rainforest or you will sit in line to enter (for 4 hours - TRUST ME). Stay: 8 days/7 nights 📸: 6,7,8 Joshua Tree National Park - this park is a kid’s wonderland. Flat trails with tons of rock formations to climb will please even the youngest of hikers. 👋 Join us for an exciting #NPWeek event at Kahuku: "The Pit Crater and its Ancient Rainforest." The large forested pit crater is one of the jewels of Kahuku. Its nearly 150-foot vertical walls envelop dense native forest, and from its overlook you look down on treetops to see a landscape from ka wā kahiko (ancient times). David Benitez, former park ecologist (now our safety officer), led surveys into the crater that documented more than 100 plant species, many rare and endangered. Hear how David, along with multi-agency teams, rappelled into the crater and how the collections are being used today to restore rare and endangered native plants throughout the park. Kaʻū coffee will be available for purchase. When: Saturday, April 20 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Where: Kahuku Visitor Contact Station, just south of the 70.5 mile marker on the mauka side of Highway 11 in Kaʻū. Let’s address a BIG elephant 🐘 in the world of Telehealth: Startups. New start up remote or Telehealth companies that hire providers are CLUELESS about NPs. I said it. Specifically to NPs, it’s important to know and understand our scope of practice, state laws and statutes. It’s also important to say “No” when asked to perform a task or see a patient out of our scope. It’s important to do your research and due diligence regarding these companies and not relying on one single source of income, and having multiple sources of income.
