In honor of Brain Cancer Awareness Month and Mother's Day, we are proud to highlight moms that are fighting glioblastoma and winning, like Barbara Lock, whose love of nature and physical activity has prevailed despite her diagnosis of glioblastoma. Almost 2 years ago, Barbara was diagnosed with glioblastoma, but that has not stopped her from continuing to chase her dreams. She has remained active throughout her treatment, and she decided that she was going to hike the Grand Canyon for an 11th time. This time she wanted to do it with her family. "18 months after her diagnosis, in spite of undergoing two brain surgeries, chemo, radiation, and other treatments, she finished her 11th backpacking trip through the Grand Canyon in November," Brittany Lock, Barbara's daughter, said. This next Ridgefield Momās Spotlight is near and dear to my heart, as I am sure to many others š§” Debbie Haughney @dhaughney is an incredible mother, educator, friend to many and all around exceptional person. Debbieās journey to marriage, motherhood and living in Ridgefield started at the same time- married to Bob and living in this wonderful town for the last 3ļøā£0ļøā£years! The Haughneyās moved here when their oldest Sarah, age 29, was 2 months old and Emily (28), Thomas (24) and Annie (16) followed Debbie was destined to be a āhelperā as she originally worked as a RN š©āāļø in NYC until daughter Emily was born. After her birth Debbie stayed home to raise her family and volunteer in the community that she loves so much. She served on the RCK board, became a catechist for St. Maryās Religious Ed (25 years) and was BES PTA president and ROSE President š¹(Ridgefield Organization for Special Education) back in the day. Many other PTA committees followed, but the one closest to her heart was a program she brought to the RPS system called āDifferences Dayā (Diversity Day). It was/is a disability awareness program for 2nd and 5th grade that continues today Debbie has also served on the board of, The Molly Ann Tango Memorial Foundation @mollytangofoundation (enriching the lives of children with special needs and their families) since 2004. In 2010 she found her next passion as a Head Toddler Teacher at, Ridgefield Montessori School, where she currently works and is loved and adored by all. Having Miss Debbie as oneās first teacher on their educational path is a gift that will last a lifetime Debbie is a mover and a shaker, whether it be on the bike @joyridestudio or running around for her family. When she sees a need for her family or community, Debbie steps up without hesitation, like when a close friend battling cancer at 41 needed support. Debbie formed a team to walk a 5K and raise funds to help fight that disease. Thatās just who she is Her number one priority has always been her family.
