For Yom HaZikaron, Israel's Memorial Day, the Shinshinim and Lior, the RootOne Shlicha, completed a special project called Recipe with a Memory. If you have lost a loved one in the past or more recently in the war against Hamas, either as a fallen soldier or victim of terror, you can fill out a form with your loved one's name, and it will be included in the slideshow which will be shown during the commemoration. George was born in Warsaw, Poland. As an infant he was thrown over the barbed-wire fence of the Vilna Ghetto into the waiting arms of Halinka, the daughter of a man that worked for George’s father. Risking their own lives, they hid George for the remainder of the war taking him out into the community and to church as if he was their own. After October 7th, when Israeli families sought refuge in Atlanta, @epstein_atl, and our Atlanta community stepped up in an incredible way. With support from the Federation, 22 Israeli children found sanctuary and education at Epstein. From Pre-K to 8th grade, Epstein embraced these families, providing education and a sense of belonging. Extra Hebrew-speaking teachers were brought on to ensure communication between the children and teachers, while the parent community at Epstein welcomed the families into Shabbat dinners and holiday celebrations. Bonds were formed, friendships blossomed, and a beautiful community emerged. Dr. David Abusch-Magder, head of the Epstein School, reflected, "We got just as much out of this experience as the Israelis did." Last night in Mexico City, the Lions of Judah women met two lone soldiers, Toby and Elias. These young men are from Mexico City and made Aliyah at 18 to join the IDF. Toby is a combat medic, and Elias is a commander. They returned from Gaza last week and told the women they spend their days checking aid and bringing it in. They said they are methodical and careful with their missions, putting human life at the forefront. They hand out water, food, and white flags to civilians in Gaza. They also spend their days moving civilians around the country and protecting them from Hamas so they can move safely when they are displaced to get away from the dangerous zones. Arielle Orlansky, Director of Women's Philanthropy, shared that "the IDF soldiers don't want to be in Gaza. They will never be the same for what they are seeing. They are heroes, and we are so lucky for their bravery." #JewishATL #WomensPhilanthropy #JewishCommunity #BringThemHomeNow

This is CRITICAL to your networking: 🤨👇 Show up to support when it's NOT about a sale. 🚨 Last night, I was down at the Atlanta Tech Village to hear Adam Wexler speak. As part of the new J-Tech event series from the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta, Adam shared his backstory, from his entrepreneurial start at UGA through the genesis & growth of PrizePicks. But stories all intersect in funny ways. 🧐 I met Adam back around 2018, just hanging out on Twitter. It was there that we started having casual convos around startups. Long story short, he happened to be in town at an event at ATV and invited me down for a short chat. 🙌 It was there that he graciously introduced me to David Lightburn. At the time I'd never even been to the Village! 💥 THIS is why it's so important to build networks by continuing to support those around you. You don't have to speak to someone daily for them to be a positive influence on your trajectory. It's easy to show up when you want something. The people who show up to support & celebrate others are the ones who cultivate incredible relationships. 🌱 The only real investment there is time. And it's absolutely worth it. 🔥 ➡️ Follow The Zero to One Networker to learn how SCALE & maintain massive networks. 📈 #networking #entrepreneurship #Jewish #Atlanta #JewishATL 🚀 #ZeroToOneNetworker 😎 #LookForTheOrangeSunglasses

Eric Robbins, who has served as the CEO of the Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta for eight years, has announced his resignation and will be stepping down. Eric has graciously agreed to stay on board through June 30th to support a smooth transition and will continue as an advisor to Federation as needed. Eric has many notable accomplishments but more than anything, he has brought the Atlanta Jewish community together like never before. He has been a leader in the Jewish community through an extremely challenging past five years managing the organization through world events including the Pittsburgh Tree of Life Shooting, COVID-19, the war in Ukraine, and most recently, the massacre of October 7 and the ongoing war in Israel. We are grateful for Eric’s leadership through these unprecedented challenges. #JewishATL #JewishAtlanta

This Sunday, April 7, marked a significant milestone - six months since the brutal Hamas attacks in Israel on October 7. For half a year, our hearts have been with those affected by this tragic event. It has been six months of heartache as hostages remain separated from their loved ones. Six months of grappling with trauma and its lasting effects. And for hundreds of thousands of Israelis, it has been six months of displacement from their homes, disrupting lives and communities. Yesterday, at City Springs, the Atlanta community came together in a powerful display of solidarity, showcasing our unwavering support and compassion. We extend heartfelt gratitude to all who participated; your courage is truly inspiring. #BringThemHomeNow #AtlantaGA #JewishATL

JKG brought the drama to close out our Purim unit! 🎭 One of our favorite Purim traditions is creating shpiels (Yiddish for play or skit) to act out the story of Esther in a super silly and dramatic fashion. #jkg #jewishkidsgroups #jkgatlanta #atlanta #jewish #jewishatl #judaism #jewishcamp #jewishcommunity #jewishparents #jewishkids #jewisheducation

On March 21st we celebrated World Down Syndrome Day at the Georgia Capitol. This was a day of global awareness, advocacy, and inclusion for individuals with Down syndrome. The focus of the day was not just about recognizing differences, but celebrating the incredible abilities and contributions of those with Down syndrome to our communities. The date itself, 3/21, holds significant symbolism as it represents the triplication of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down syndrome. It's a reminder that our differences are what make us beautifully unique. A huge shoutout to Representative Scott Hilton for hosting an event with the @dsaatl, families, and @jewishabilitiesatlanta to advocate for the rights and inclusion of individuals with Down syndrome. It's efforts like these that help raise awareness, highlight abilities, and address challenges faced by the community. #WorldDownSyndromeDay #InclusionMatters #DifferentIsBeautiful #JewishATL

Over 100 of our brothers and sisters have been held hostage in Gaza for 177 days and counting. One of the four names for the holiday of Passover is Zman Cheruteynu (The Season of Our Freedom). With Passover coming up, it’s difficult to reconcile the joy of the holiday with the sadness we feel for those who have lost their freedom and are still in captivity. And yet, just as the Israelites clung to hope that they would reach the land of Israel, we too need to remain steadfast in our hope that these hostages will taste freedom again soon. As we approach Passover, join us in remembering the hostages and calling for them to be released. #BringThemHome #JewishATL #JewishAtlanta #Passover

Last week, right before Purim, a rock was thrown through a window of a Chabad synagogue in Decatur. Our security team swiftly responded to the incident by coordinating with Federation’s Live Secure fund to pay to fix the window and provide additional security including cameras. #WeAreJewishATL #JewishATL #SecureCommunity
