Founded in the 4th century, the Cathedral was converted in 1535 and became a symbol of Protestant Reformation, where John Calvin preached for 23 years. The austere, imposing interior is contrasted by the flamboyant & colorful Chapel of the Maccabees, built in the 15th century as a tomb for Jean de Brogny and his family, a cardinal who served under Pope Clement VII. Later the chapel was used as a warehouse to store salt & gunpowder, and then as a lecture hall. Nowadays the Cathedral hosts concerts, various events & ceremonies as well. Musée d'art et d'histoire! Built by Geneva architect Marc Camoletti to bring together different public collections under one roof, it was inaugurated in 1910. Its collection is highly diversified: paintings and sculptures, graphic arts, archaeological collections, furniture and domestic objects, weapons, musical instruments, textiles, watches, enamelware and jewelry. Only a small proportion of these 650,000 objects are on permanent display. The façade is decorated with sculptures by Paul Amlehn: an allegory of the arts, depicting painting, sculpture, drawing and architecture, is mounted on the triangular gable above the entrance, and two more allegories, of archaeology and applied art, can be seen in the left- and right-hand corners of the building respectively. Behold the captivating facade of the MEG - Musée d'ethnographie de Genève (Geneva Museum of Ethnography). Founded in 1901, it was originally located in the Mon Repos Villa and brought together a diverse array of public and private collections, including ethnographic treasures from the Archaeology Museum, Musée Ariana, Evangelical Missionary Society Museum and even weapo s from the Geneva History Museum. Between 1980 and 2001, three proposals to build a new museum in Sturm Square were rejected. The city then envisaged renovating and extending the building on its present site. The MEG’s new pagoda-shaped building was opened on 31 October 2014, after four years of construction work. It was designed by @graberpulver The galleries and an auditorium are located in the basement; the cafeteria, museum shop, and ticket office is on the ground floor, facing the garden. Upstairs are restoration and cultural outreach workshops, as well as the library, which includes a small space for listening to music from all over the world. When visiting a museum and there is more to see than just the displays. A fantastic view up the double volume connecting the 2 storeys of the Museé d'histoire des sciences in Geneva. I was just walking around the Parc de La Perie du Lac, taking in the first of the spring weather a few weeks ago when I stumbled upon this small gem of a museum. Whilst the museum has loads of cool exhibitions, most of which are interactive, the architecture, built in 1830 and restored between 1985 and 1992, lends itself to some fantastic photos. The symmetry of this central double volume was too good to pass up! Yes I looked like a fool putting my camera on the floor pointing up, but it was so worth it. Thanks to my wide angle lense, I was able to capture the entire opening along with some dramatic shadows and lighting. I shot this with exposure bracketing to composite an HDR where I could have some details left in the shadows whilst keeping the bright skylight under control. Let me know your thoughts! Immeuble Clarté is an apartment building in Geneva designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret starting from 1928 and built in 1931–32. It is definitely my dream building to live in! Funny enough, it escaped demolition in 1960 and was renovated in the 70s. Hans Eichenberger conçoit une filiale de teo jakob Connaissez-vous surtout les meubles légendaires de Hans Eichenberger ? Outre les créations de meubles, le designer bernois s’est également fait un nom en tant qu’architecte d’intérieur. Ainsi, avant même la création du groupe «Swiss Design» (Teo Jakob, Hans Eichenberger, Kurt Thut et Robert Haussmann) en 1958, Eichenberger a dessiné la première filiale de teo jakob à Genève. Un espace vitré sur trois côtés, en forme de pavillon, avec des vitrages d’angle élégamment arrondis, a été créé sur la place des Eaux-Vives. Les photographies d’Alfred Hablützel ne montrent pas seulement l’architecture intemporelle d’Eichenberger, mais aussi deux luminaires (slide 2) qui sont aujourd’hui considérés comme des classiques du design : Le lampadaire «HE» de Hans Eichenberger et, en arrière-plan, la lampe sphérique «Luna» d’Alfred Hablützel. Ces deux luminaires ont été exposés par teo jakbo au salon d’art artgenève de cette année (slides 3 et 4). Hans Eichenberger entwarf noch vor der Gründung der Gruppe «Swiss Design» (Teo Jakob, Hans Eichenberger, Kurt Thut und Robert Haussmann) im Jahr 1958 die erste Filiale von teo jakob in Genf. An der Place des Eaux-Vives entstand ein dreiseitig verglaster, pavillonartiger Raum mit elegant gerundeten Eckverglasungen. Die Fotografien von Alfred Hablützel zeigen nicht nur Eichenbergers zeitlose Architektur, sondern auch zwei Leuchten, die heute als Designklassiker gelten: Die Stehleuchte «HE» von Hans Eichenberger und im Hintergrund die Kugelleuchte «Luna» von Alfred Hablützel. When Cornavin Train Station was being renovated in 2010-2014, the architect group @ittenbrechbuehl worked with Bolivian-born Genevan artist Carmen Perrin to create two over-sized doors, made from Ductal concrete that surrounds glass circles.
