Coal Delivery: The Might 1004’ M/V James R. Barker from the Interlake Steamship Company Fleet downbound the Detroit River on this 80 Degree Saturday Afternoon, with some bad Air Quality coming into Metro Detroit… The Barker is passing with a half load of Coal after discharging her other half of cargo at the St. Clair Power Plant. She is here bound for the Monroe Power Plant to finish discharging all her cargo and then back up for Lake Superior for another load for either Iron Ore or Coal again. Usually when I see her down here she is loaded with Ore for Toledo Torco but not this trip. She is making the same cargo run as the PRT usually does all year long. Also I sadly do not get the barker bark down here. Maybe in 1000 years I’ll get captain to give me one lol! (5/18/24)

The Rigmor von Gluckstadt is the oldest seaworthy sailing ship in Germany, originally built as a customs cutter in 1853 she is now a museum ship based on the River Elbe. Built as 'Zollkreuzer no.5' (customs cruiser) by Johann Paul Schroeder in 1853, she was seized by the Prussians and decommissioned in 1864. Re-named Treue (Fidelity) in 1874 by her new owner G J Matzen, she became a 'Austerntransport' (cargo vessel) before being sold to a Danish owner. Once more re-named, Manna, she was used as a 'Frachtschiff' (cargo ship) for many years. Following several changes of ownership, she was converted in 1917, under the new name Rigmor, to a 'Steinfischer' (stone fisher). During the 1980s, having been sold as a leisure sailing craft when she was no longer viable for dredging, Rigmor began to deteriorate. Nu had ik - niet geheel toevallig - al een digitaal model van dit Urker schip. Dus leek het me wel leuk om het in Marine kleuren te 'schilderen'. Back in Business: After a longer layup for the Honorable James L. Oberstar from the Interlake Steamship Company she is back out and about! She is loaded with Iron Ore Pellets from the Superior BSNF 5 Ore Dock in Superior, Wisconsin for the Toledo Ironville Dock. She doesn’t usually go down to Toledo to often as she usually makes a standard run from Marquette to Dearborn with Ore. It was nice to see her go by here as she doesn’t too often as said previously! As along with the Gordie Howe Bridge’s Cables and roadway over Windsor! The Sykes is loaded with Iron Ore from the LS&I Ore Dock in Marquette, Michigan and is discharging the load at the Toledo Csx Torco Dock! (4/21/24)
Uncommon Visitor: The Ocean Going vessel M/V Puna making way downbound the Detroit River with the Gordie Howe Bridge in the Background! After making a Pilot change a few miles back she is on her way to Montreal for Bunkers for her journey across seas. She is loaded with Potash from the Thunder Bay Terminals in Thunder Bay, Ontario. As you can see, her hatches are open, I believe due to their load of Potash they open them for a reason because of that specific load. Hope everyone had a good Sunday! (4/21/24)

Peelable Cocoon, the solution against accretion! To prevent accretion on the propeller #shafts, blades and brackets, we use a peel able version of Cocoon. When the axles, blades and brackets are completely adjusted, and the ship is ready to be taken out of the dry dock, we can go to work. We spray our peel able Cocoon onto the propeller shafts and blades. In addition, we also close the brackets. We do this with multiple layers, so that the desired thickness is achieved. The accretion therefore occurs on the Cocoon, instead of on the ship. Then the ship is launched and awaits the moment of the trial run. Until then, the peelable Cocoon prevents any chance of accretion forming on the #propellers, and that saves a lot of time and money. Will the ship sail? Then a diver can easily remove the peelable #PVC with scissors. Besides seamless and #airtight, now also: waterproof We have already proven and shown many times that Cocoon is an effective method for #preserving large parts in a open space. But in this case we apply Cocoon underwater at a depth of 5 to 6 meters. Sometimes it can take 1 to 2 years for the ship to make its first voyage, which means that the Cocoon must protect the propeller shafts against #accretion at all times.
