Manages to get myself out of bed a lot earlier today then I have in the past few days, in the hope of getting a good run on the roads of my puas (Dads Sisters) pind (village) and drop in on a surprise visit. Done quick warm up in my hotel and stepped out my room if i was hoping for a cooler morning I was totally wrong I could feel the heat in the corridors. Soon as i stepped out of the hotel the heat smacked me boom in the face, it was iver 37Β°C. Nothing was going to stop me today as I needed a road run so I set off with my water bottle and was going way faster than I planned. So let my body dictate the pace. By second km I was mega hot but fully determined to get 5k in the bag. Around 3k into the run I got a bit confused and asked something for directions and they kind of sent me the right way but didn't fully explain so lost again and asked told wrong information. Finally found someone who knew what they was on about and got back on track but now out of water. Now this is why I love my Sikh faith on my way to my Puas house, I seen a Gurdwara from a distance in Dhanda and knew I would be able to get water to cool down and without fail there was a sink, tap and glasses out side on the wall for anyone to use. 5k Treadmill again couldn't get up at 4am to go for my planned run around the Summer Palace of The Last Maharaja (Kind) of Panjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singh. So had to make do with the hotel gym treadmill and even with the AC on max it was hot as F*** ing the gym, easily 35Β°C which is playing havoc with my VO2 MAX. Started off wanting to do 5k easy but got board and just wanted to finish so increased pace each km and then heat got best of me so finished the last 2k at higher easy pace. Tomorrow hopefully get a early morning run through some villages that I know in a different area. Lets see if I can get out for 6am as the temp will be around 27Β°C not the 45Β°C it hits later in the day..😁🀣 Had a fantastic stroll to and through parts of Ram Bagh (Ram Gardens) and to my surprise found there was a museum there. Which with a 10p entry I just had to do. Took some of these pictures undercover as for most places in india "Photography" is not allowed unless you pay...! I walked and visited many historical Gurdwars today, and my one task was to findout how many steps it takes to walk a parkarma around Sri Darbar Sahib. As many of you know with the amount of sangat there has to be some weaving in and out. I would say its approximately 1,000 steps and around 600m to do one whole Parkarma around Sri Darbar Sahib πŸ™πŸΎ My total step count for the day is 23,000 steps andwith the blisters on my feet im glad I done that many. Boy was it hot day today and wasn't quite sure how I was going to run today, I knew i wasn't fully fit and the sun was pounding down. 8.30am and it was around 16Β°C and I never hadna great sleep due to too some fools alarm going off around 4.30/5am for over 1h. Took my Asics Magicspeed out for a ride today fast shoes but not my race shoes, legs got me to the startline ok, slightly faster than what i wanted to go but i started off well. At startline general meet & greet all the familiar faces and head off to startline. Whistle blows and we're off, start off great and slightly above the 4.00 m/km range and had to reign it back to save my legs for later on. Around the second km i can feel my legs haven't got it in them for the remaining 3k and had to hold on keeping something in reserve for the final sprint finish. 20.58 not the best but better than previous weeks and can feel im getting my fitness back week by week. Tried to keep up with the guys infront of but I knew I couldn't keep up all the way and was only seconds behine. Slowly but surely I'll be back with the pack and a sub20 maybe back on the cards. What a great sunshiny day today, did know how my body would hold up today, with my hip pain receding but pain intensifying within my right glute. So the plan was to enjoy the sunshine and go easy for minimum of 5k. Once I stepped out the house I knew that I would need some water and would probably need to take it very easy. The plan in my head was to do up to 5k and see how my hip feels and if ok then keep going. Started of really slow and felt sluggish around half way through the first km i started to losen up and felt much better. By the second km my pace seemed to increase and the third km i found my self going faster but my HR was above zone 2 so tried to hold back but wasn't happening. At this point my plan adapted to push to 5k progressive and see how I feel. When i finished my fifth km I then wanted to keep going and keep my legs in decent condition. So plan changed again to run the remaining 5k decreasing my pace. Even with the heat this wasn't happening so decided to run to feel at around 70/80% effort I believe the sun helped loads and with so much hoing on around me, my mind was occupied away from any pain, helped by seeing nature in all its glory around my route. I think I must have some sort of mental disorder...lol My body not recovered but I needed to run and test out my hips the funny thing is it don't hurt when running, but when I stopped and walked the pain kicks in. My need to get someone to look at why this is happening and work out if its down to poor form or something. These issues I've narrowed down to happening post marathons. So if any of my running friends can recommend anyone please message me. 😁 The plan was to do a easy 5k keeping my HR down bur as the run went on I kept pushing my pace up so decided that I would do a negative splits 5k and as the park was quite busy today had to weave in and out of people and dodge kids and dogs. Wow what a feeling...getting back into the flow of running again. The pace and fitness has dropped quite a bit due to my time off trying to recover post marathons. But will build it back up quickly and with my pig headed determination I'll be back bigger and stronger. Today was also my 40th Parkrun πŸ’ͺ🏽🎊πŸ₯³ and that's not bad going considering I only started just over a year ago and #AbbeyParkRun only started 1 year and 2 weeks ago. This palce has fast become my go to place for Saturday mornings and no other Parkrun has come close to bettering it. I was parkrun pacer today for 28mins run, it was the first time attempting to pace and I didn't have a obvious group or person to pace and struggled to keep to the 5.36 m/km with no one to motivate. I came in 1 min under but it was worth it as i helped two girl get PBs especially as they was giving up on the final km of the run. With today being May 4th it was great meeting the energetic mascot man himself Loz O'shea as Chewbaccer 🦧 #May4thBeWithYou I didn't do my regular warm down and extra running today as, I still I feel the need more recovery from past two marathons and the business move from Dudley to Leicester. So I had to conserve my energy for tomorrow @great_run Birmingham Half Marathon and took a leisurely stroll home post run and then hit the gym spa for some R&R. Now let's see what tomorrow brings, wish me luck. Week 1, Day 5 Intervals Training The plan was to hit 17k but during this training session it became clear to me that my fitness levels were not up to this task as, it was part of my marathon training plan for Tokyo. I kept my warm up run down to a pace of around 5.20 min/km in anticipation of the Intervals session that I knew would be much harder than previous ones. The pan was; 5k Warm Up @ 5.45 m/km 45 sec Run @ 3.40 m/km x 10 3.00 min Recovery @ 5.35 m/km (*6.00 m/km) x 10 3k Warm Down @ 5.45 m/km I was surprised that from the off I was able to surpass the Interval target not just on the first one but all of them. The 4th one I could feel energy levels drained, but pushed through and around the 7th onwards stong headon winds slowed me down and made it little harder to run at the required pace. Once the Intervals had finished I didn't want to push too hard increasing my recovery time, so cut back the warm down from 5k to 3k and stopped off at shop to pick up some water and berries to build up my energy levels. Overall great session though throughout I kept asking WTF am I doing this? Week 1, Day 3 Feels so much harder getting back on track again legs feel fatigued. Rest day tomorrow and speed session on Friday. Hopefully get pace back for Birmingham Half Marathon this Sunday. My little #SpeedyKaur wanted to join me today and boy did she realise hoe hard it was to keep going and I decided to take her back before she gave up with stitch. My plan started off to go for a nice easy 10k run in around 54 min keeping my heartrate below 140 BPM, however, it wasn't happening and as much as I tried I could feel the effort becoming harder and and my HR increasing. I decided I would do 5k at a easy pace of 5.20 min/km and the next 5k at a slightly faster pace of 5.15 min/km with a nice few yards/meters of strides to finish off the session. Week 1, Day 2 Today is the first time back on the road post Tokyo and Manchester Marathons and I'm determined to get my fitness back on track after a horrible few months and past 3 week lack of running and poor nutrition. The plan is to get back on top of my fitness and start training for Chicago Marathon in October and get that sub 3.20 I need for Boston Marathon qualifying time. Today's plan was to go out for a easy 10k run, however things changed drastically as by lap 2 I was much faster than planned and my HR was extremely higher than I wanted. From the 2nd km onwardsi decided to push for a faster 5k with negative splits, which I managed bang on. My warm down was supposed to have been 5k but I just didn't seem to have the energy to do 5k though garmin was saying I had 84% energy left. Oh well, if it was east everyone would be doing this. First run post Manchester Marathon and I'm really not fully recovered and with my moving of business I've not had time or energy to get out running. So today was quite a decent result. As it was Abbey Park Parkrun 1 year anniversary I decided last night that I would be taking it easy and would take my camera out to record the course and atmosphere of this amazon Parkrun. Video will be edited amd posted soon. Today was my 39th Parkrun and 34th one at Abbey Park, I think you can safely class it as my local and favourite Parkrun. I've also volunteered 31 times I think almost all at Abbey Park. Ran in my new Asics Novablast 4 as I've read it helps to run faster when in carbon shoes on race day. Worth giving it a try to see if it helps. After scanning other runners post run, I couldn't get my normal 2 x 5k runs in so stopped at 7k, giving me 14.Β½k for today. From next week onwards will try to get at least 1mile in daily and start prep for Birmingham Half Marathon 5th May. Everything felt easy paced today and I'll start build my fitness back up soon as move is complete and I've more time for myself. Happy Vaisakhi to all, today is the initiation day of the Sikh Martial Order of the Khalsa (Gods Righteous Army) form to fight evil and protect the weak. Back on it maybe too much running today especially with a long ass run tomorrow and garmin saying 42h until fully recovered..lol But as many of you know I'm a mad f***ker and fight through the pain barrier. Getting back on it is actually harder than ever before and with all this moving going on I'm not even able to get my basic 10k in today as more time spent driving up and down from Birmingham to Leicester. Took to the Dreadmill today and boy was I hot after just over 5mins and I tried to take my top off whilst running and boom πŸ’₯ sent flying off the treadmill. Lucky I was able to keep my balance and not go flying into my other equipment. Got back on and managed to get to the 5k mark and a small warm down to the end. I really need to get back out on the road soon. I'm especially missing my long runs and speed training and this weather ain't helping me much. Seems like my body is taking an incredibly long time to recover from Tokyo. However I've narrowed it down to a few factors why. The first one being the lack of quality sleep and the required amount of hours each night. Then their is the move of business from Birmingham to Leicester and the stair climbing at new unit and finally the poor nutrition I've been eating since Dubai. I'm quite bloated most the time and having digestive issues which have been hindering my running. Today I had volunteered to do the pre parkrun course check and thought it was a great way to get few extra kilometres in the bag. Once finished I wasn't in great condition and was contemplating if I should or shouldn't do the parkrun. But words from another parkruner to take it easy gave me the encouragement I needed to start. The plan was to take it easy and just chill in around zone 2 or 3. But as always I started off much faster than I should have and had to pull back around the 2nd km and found my comfort zone and finished off strongly as always. Finished off with a decent time of 21.46, I was 22nd finisher and 2nd in my age category. Met a Strava friend and couple of regulars, with Abul & Heather joining us today. After volunteering to do scanning, I was going to take a easy recovery run home however by body was tired and I took a easy walk home. I rounded the day off moving more items to the new unit and when home got into my gym and started the elliptical machine and managed to do 50 minutes which is the longest ever for me on one of these. Since visiting Dubai and running Tokyo Marathon my nutrition has been rubbish and I've over indulged in rubbish food. Thinking that I'll run it off but each day I've noticed that due to fatigue and stress I've not run as much as normal and my clothes were getting that little tighter every day. So a little background on my weight lost post covid my weight ballooned to over 105kg and I was several obsess and in denial. I took control of my bad habits and started intermittent fasting to lose weight, I also changed what I ate cutting out processed foods and sugar. Once I had all that under control, I knew I need to do more to maintain my weight loss and improve my fitness. I then decided I would do 10,000 steps daily without fail which I have maintained for over 600 days until my watch died last Sunday not count in excess off 5,000 steps and made me miss my target for that day. I'm not to stressed as like today I mainly do over 20,000 steps daily any how. Today was a mega busy day moving all my gear from Birmingham to my new unit in Leicester. On a 20h plus fast and only 2 black coffees all day. Parkrun 36 and still lacking the fitness I had pre Tokyo, though I was faster than last week but not back on the level I was at before leaving. I was so indecisive today as to how I was going to run today was it going to be easy or was I going to push harder than last week..? I got my kit ready the night before (2am) and it was the easy run shoes I got ready. Vert poor 5h sleep and with my youngest sleeping on my head most the night, I'm surprised I managed to get up before my alarm went off, I got my kit on and last minute changed my shoes to my new Tokyo asics and got my coffee and scone post run and after my quick warm up I was off to my favourite Abbey Park. Warm up was nice and easy and I arrived with plenty of time and met the usual Parkrun family and we as all ready to go and we was off I planned to run around 4.10/4.15 which I could of and should of achieved but I was running without looking at my watchb and was slightly slower than I wanted but close enough. Today was my 36th parkrun and my 31st at Abbey Park parkrun today. I finished in 14th place out of a field of 221 parkrunners. I was the 12th male and came 1st in my age category VM45-49. I came in at 21.15 and was 14th runner to finish out of 221 and 12th male finisher. "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" Kelly Carson So after a few days off running and a deep sports massage to try and recover from the tight muscles around my legs and groin area. I felt really good and was looking forward to getting back out there running again, so I got the Vaporfly out for this one. Checked my garmin for what the training plan was and was pleasantly surprised that it was speed training (VO2 Max) which as you know is one of my favourite training sessions. I set off at the correct pace and found myself speeding up as I went on and had discomfort in my foot with lace pinching had a brief stop to redo my laces. The cold wind and rain my hands were frozen, set off again and my back had frozen in that short stop. The first six speed session went well but by the 7th one I was done for. I had to stop to catch my breath and get little more recovery. I'm just glad I just finished. There was times during this session I just wanted to stop and jog home as I was fully done for. But for some reason that lyrics "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" kept going through my head and it kept me motivated to finish off. Marathons are won during the training not on the race day and I will never give up, anyone that knows me knows I'm no f***ing quitter. The plan was; 10 mins Warm Up Run @ 5.20 m/km 2 mins Run @ 3.55 m/km (x8) 1 min Recovery Run @ 6.10 m/km (x7) 10 mins Warm Down Run @ 5.20 m/km This was all finished off with a 3k recovering run home @ 6.00 m/km Looking back at my stats I was pleasantly surprised that my cadence was improving and though my body was shattered stats showed I had more stamina in the bank. So no running today, due to high recovery need so why don't test out some new gear I brought recently. I've had cupping done before on my legs, and they did seem to help my muscles recover well. But I'm not so sure on the price of having this done and took the plunge and brought my own set. Didn't have any issues putting them on in the right places, and maybe I was a bit cautious not to use too much suction but maybe a little more could have been used. Run slow to run fast... My training has been off par recently with tightness and sore legs. The plan was to get a nice easy run for around 45mins, but my legs weren't having any of it today. Hamstring and my hip flexer were tight and I was struggling to keep my HR down which I can only put down to not been fully on it. Which was the reason I decided to cut the run short to 5k and save my legs for later in this busy week ahead. Today was new shoe run day and I wanted to take the Novablast 4s out for a nice easy 10k and just get a feel of them. But wasn't to be soon as I set of from home my pace was way too high and as always I struggled to reign it back enough to get into zone 2 easy pace. So decided to make it 5k Tempo going for progressive splits and then do 10k easy pace, but that didn't work either though I brought the pace back but found myself gradually increasing my pace so decided would be another 5k Tempo with progressive splits. I try doing my negative splits without looking at my watch and going by feel. Once 10k done wanted to add a slower warm down for around 5k but due to school hols and loads of people cut it back to 2.5 as at around then my weekly running total would have been met for first time since coming back from Tokyo Marathon πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ #ShoeReview. I found the @asicsrunning #Novablast4, a very comfortable ride even straight from the box and no distance covered in them. However as I know these are more easy pace shoes then speed shoes I still found them comfortable at my Tempo pace, but more enjoyable at my easy and recovery pace. Toe box bit wide for my narrow feet, but no issue. I felt bit warm in them and that could be just down to running faster than I should have been in them. Outsole and midsole are fantastic, cushioning and grip spot on so far. So I've been brand loyal with #Nike for many years but they discontinued my favourite training shoes the Zoom Tempos and nothing has replaced them. Since buying my first Novablast 3 Shoes last year and liking the, I've invested in a few more #Asics running shoes. These #Novablast4 are the latest addition to the running shoe family. Really fancied a change from the normal and as Watermead Park Parkrun was low on volunteers I decided to do this course again, taking @jasdeep_lamsar and @kstsinggh to do a different Parkrun from Abbey Park. Was alway great seeing some of my running family also, @justjames_justme, @chipstar_running & @Rishi Chauhan and talking to some new runners about their journeys. Especially the gent who was wearing his Boston marathon tshirt, who gave some valuable advice. Today my plan was to push around 75% without going all out running at around 4.25 m/km looking to finish around 22 mins. The start was very congested and I started to push through the sides in the mud but then though my shoes gonna get dirty so pulled back onto the path. Around 2k mark we all found our places and spread out enough. Seemed to take forever to get around the course and was finally finished and glad it was over, I was off the ball today but today took me to 35 Parkruns and 30 times Volunteering. I will be coming back to get my sub20 on this course once it's achievable. So managed to get out to Beaumont Running Club track session and push some speed training out of my legs, but after today earlier run I wasn't not sure how it would go. The session was to run 1k @ 10k pace (4.20 m/km) 90s @ Recovery pace (5.50 m/km) Repeat above for approximately 38mins Started off way too fast and left my running partner @jasdeep_lamsar behind who was actually paying attention to his watch, unlike me...lol One thing that I learned today, which is something I fail to do almost every speed training session is good recovery pace between laps. In the past I was always trying to push my limits but seeing other runners recovering correctly between runs allowed me to get the next lap as fast or better. Over all great session, especially as I wasn't 100% after todays earlier run session. I was well surprised I was able to get this pace out my legs especially as I was feeling quite fatigued. Managed to get in some fantastic running training in today, which was a great feeling as my legs haven't been up to much post Tokyo Marathon. The plan was to actually go out for a nice easy paced 10k run but from the off my pace was much faster than I wanted so, I tried to reign it back but my 2nd km in was actually faster not slow enough. I then decided to make the first 5k a progressive run upping the pace each km to 5k. 1k - 5.05 m/km 2k - 4.58 m/km 3k - 4.55 m/km 4k - 4.53 m/km 5k - 4.50 m/km When at 5k the choice was do I split the session or keep running? As I was feeling good I didn't want to stop and let my legs freeze up so kept running. This time the plan was to run parkrun route and do some sort of Fartlek training, the plan in my head was to go at 1k tempo around 4.50 m/km and 1k at easy around 5.15 m/km Overall a great session, even better getting out and back on the road and relieving the stress of daily life and getting thr endorphins flowing. Legs haven't been in the best of shape recently and I've got a tempo session in my training plan for tomorrow so didn't want to fatigued my legs to a point where my legs wouldn't recover in time for tomorrow's session. I wanted to keep my knees safe so took 15mins on Eliptical and then swiftly moved on to my treadmill. Managed to get another further 15 mins some great running into my session. Tired now off to bed... First Long Run since getting back from Tokyo πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ and it was hard, I really wanted to hit 32k (20 miles) but I wasn't up for it. Since getting back from Dubai and Tokyo my belly put a few lb on due to massive change of diet and my legs are still not fully recovered and I don't think the hard pushes at Parkrun are helping. The plan today was to get 35k in the bag as past 2 week I've only hit around 17k a week. I planned this long run to incorporate some marathon pace running and recovery running. 5k Warm Up 5k MP x3 5k RR x3 5k Warm Down I set of way to fast and to my detriment thought I was going to be good with the pace of around @ 5.00 m/km but as I got to start of next session I could feel it in my legs that I went to hot on warm up. The MP 5k was all good through, albeit a bit tough but in target range. Foolishly I was above RR pace for the next 5k and I felt it during the 2nd MP 5k and I struggled to get to or stay within the target pace at this point I realises coming out without water or any fuel wasn't a good idea nor was it clever coming out in a fasted state (20h fasted). I also started to feel tightness in my Quads in particular the IT band area. At this point I knew 35k wasn't happening and after the 5k recovery I would need to go to cafe to get water. Overall happy to have bagged 25k much more than past 2 weeks and getting back out again. Unveiling my latest rides the @asics #Metaspeed Tokyo limited edition. I purchased these at the recent Tokyo Marathon EXPO. I've always been a loyal fan of Nike but recently they have discontinued my favourite speed training shoe the Nike Zoom Tempo which was perfect for my needs allowing it to be used as a speed training shoe and a easy running shoe. They pulled the plug on them and I haven't found a suitable replacement and was looking at asics recently and liked the idea of these metaspeed only to find these at a bargain price at the expo. It's almost two weeks since my incredible time in Japan running TokyoMarathon2024 and I'm just finding my legs again. Last weeks parkrun was to fast too soo. I wanted to get out today and smash my parkrun and hopefully get my elusive sub20. Took a nice 2.5k warm up to Abbey Park Parkrun albeit a tad on the fast side and my HR was all over the shop but got to startline and was confident and wanted that elusive sub 20. At the startline had to keep reminding myself I can't hold a pace of 3.50 for much longer than 800m or so and not to set off too fast. 1st km not to bad but touch to fast 2nd, 3rd & 4th was hardworking but I wasn't pushing hard enough. 5th km back on it an pace back in range. Today was my 34th parkrun and my 30th at Abbey Park parkrun today. I finished in 18th place out of a field of 225 parkrunners. I was the 17th male and came 3rd in your age category VM45-49. Not bad for a old man..lol Post Parkrun did my regular volunteering giving back to the system for all their hard work. Then back to guaranteed more πŸ™‹πŸ½β€β™‚οΈ Following my token scanning I was able to get around to running with @jasdeep_lamsar and we both wanted to run and talk as we both dis. That's the first leg done and dusted, Good Bye Dubai, it was nice but to be honest, it's not for me. If your going to Dubai then you have to come to the #BurjKhalifa, as its like going to Egypt and not seeing the Great Pyramids or going London and not seeing Big Ben or Buckingham Palace. I was supposed to get up around 5.30am but after only 3h sleep in over 48h, I never had it in me to get out of my bed. As we had a city tour booked in for 8am this morning decided rather than doing my planned 10k run decided I will make it a quick easy 5k and just about got back to our hotel in time to set off for today's tour. Just checked my run stats and was pleasantly surprised that I managed a perfect negative splits. Hey guys hope you're all well.? My first stop on the way to Japan, Tokyo is the world famous city of @dubai in the United Arab Emirates. Let's see what the fuss is about. Landed her around 9pm local time and made our way to our hotel and so far so good. By the time we got our rooms and that it got quite late and not wanting to let the day go to waste and I had over 3k steps to do we went out for food and a walk around the World Trade Centre, Dubai. I'm one who loves architecture and the building are quite amazing of what I've seen so far and the @museumofthefuture is next level...πŸ‘ŒπŸ½πŸ’ͺπŸ½πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ͺ unfortunately we wasn't able to pre book tickets but going to see if anyone can help us get in. I so wanted a run today but time is against me so 4h sleep then gonna knock a quick run out around 6am and then full day touring this city and vist more sight. Missing my family but time will fly and will have a reason to bring them out next year. My head keeps telling me to taper take it easy all the hard work has been done and it's time to take it easy, until the big day on the streets of Tokyo on the 3rd March. The plan today was to take it easy up to @abbeyparkleicester and even make the warm up 2.5k over the 3k normally, bumped into @jasdeep_lamsar on his warm up reached the startline and there was many more runners than normal, as quite a few parkruns were cancelled today. The plan was to get around 22 mins and enjoy the run, met up with the regular parkrun family @chipstar_running @justjames_justme , @lozzoyiddo (C-3PO costume was great) @rickyaggarwal34 @GurmitSingh @gemboleebo1. Briefing was done and all the clapping over put my coat away made my way to the startline and before I knew it the whistle went and we was off. As I was right close to the front got cought up with all the fast runners and boom plan went flying out the window 4.05 m/km was the aim around for 4k and final 1k go all out at around 3.55 m/km. First 1k was bang on 2nd was slightly off, now 3rd km was an issue I hit my hip on a pole at end of 2nd km which effected my running. 4th km was back to 2nd km pace just off and 5th km was bang on. Finished 20.33, I was the 23rd runner across the finish line out of 370 runners, I was 20th male to finish and 4th in my age category. Once finished it was time to give something back to the community and I enjoy doing barcode scanning and today was my 25th time volunteering at this parkrun. The plan was to do a easy recovery run but I just couldn't find myself sticking to the required pace and I changed my route 2k in and decided I will just run to feel and add a nice big hill into the mix keeping pace and HR steady. I was quite relaxed throughout, but the hill pushed my HR up quite a bit and pace dropped as I was going up this mountain, sorry I mean hill. It's only taken me over a year to finally get out and join my local running club and a big thank you to @beaumont_rc for letting me join them at their track training session. I had the company of my running brothers @JasSingh & @RishiChauhan, and all three of us were first timers with the club and was looking forward to meeting the guys. The clubs plan was focused on interval sessions for 5k running, of 90s @ 5k pace 4:00 m/km followed by 60s recovery @ 6:00 m/km 10x. However today was supposed to have been an easy recovery run for me and I wasn't feeling the intervals session so informed to club and just done my run around the track. Started off ok chilling, but soon as runners started flying past me I could hold back so just ran at a pace I was comfortable at without over exerting myself. Got around 6 laps in but I dint catch it all on my watch as I forgot to start it...lol same as with the warm up but managed to remember to start it for my final 1k lap at above MP but nor all out. Had a couple of runners complement my running style, which obviously made me happy but I really don't think it anything amazing but always nice to receive a great compliment like that. Maybe time to get a running coach as I thought I was a sloppy runner who has been luck in my times. I'm still weary of overdoing thing and am holding back. I want to get one long run it with MP running and hopefully cut right back for final week to fully recover. After some Birthday Celebrations for my #SpeedyKaur on her 7th Birthday, we finally got to go to Ninja Warrior πŸ₯· Leicester as a family and we all had a fantastic time. Testing our strength and skills on the multiple obstacle courses. Its amazing how life can change over the course of a few years, and today some reality kicked in. As I was able to see how much my fitness and capability to do things that I've never been able to do previously before in my life. The one I was most impressed with was my ability to finish off all the courses that involved upper body strength, like the moving monkey bars and swinging obstacle, after last months massive incline treadmill today was the beat the wall challenge and after a few failures i managed to run up more than once. Then there was my favourite the old school glass wall climbing something I did as a kid many times growing up. End up feeling well battered and with pain to my knee and had to take it easy after awhile. Once finally home I had to annoy my wife and go out for a run as I was itching to get out and run. It was supposed to be a easy 30mins recovery however as I has the day off yesterday I decided to go easy pace for around 10 to 13k. Entering the Taper stage of my preparation for Tokyo Marathon 2024 and boy am I looking forward to this marathon, hopefully I've got my fitness levels on point, I'm just a little concerned regarding my nutrition on the run. I'm OK with most gels however the sugar, and mess annoys the hell out of me. Next day or two will look to make a good whole food nut & oat bar of my own. Today my Garmin had me down to do 1 hour 20 mins run @ 5.25 m/km, however I did a longish run yesterday and I didn't feel like doing another one today. But once out I felt good and thought what the hell let's just do it. Then by the 2nd km I was on it and wanted to run faster so increased the pace up a notch and same again and thought ill try for negative splits till I get close to MP. Then the pathway on my favourite route were flooded so had to make a detour and think of a new route adhoc. I decided to make my way over to my lovely Abbey Park to do the Parkrun route. I lost a little pace on the 5th km but was determined to pick the pace back up and to be honest was feeling great. Though I wasn't looking to keep a extremely low HR I wanted to run in and around the upper levels of my easy zone without getting too much into the anaerobic zone, which I almost pulled off, but the final 500m I pushed a little harder that took me into anaerobic zone, but good over all. I also took as much of my route along the river soar and was keeping an eye out for anything unusual, as the little 2 year old who fell into the river hasn't been found still. Sorry going to let my alter ego lose on this post, as today I smashed my weekly running total. Having already passed my weekly target of 70k after parkrun yesterday I didn't have to go for a run but after seeing all my running community family getting out and doing their runs I just had to get out and get my fix also..lol I had planned on just doing a very easy 10k which would of taken my weekly running total to 98k for the week. But then it crossed my mind that if I ran 12k that would take me to 100k which would have been my highest weekly total. Today I used the Garmin Course feature on my watch which took me to new areas of the city that I've never ran in before, but on route seen a few familiar locations. The plan was to do this course at a low HR even with the hills. The first 2k were nice slow warmup, then I progressively increased my pace keeping an eye on my HR. All was going well until on a hill my watch was showing me off route and I wasn't sure which way I was to go. After a brief stop to work it out I kept on the way I was going and I think a combination of stress and the hill made my HR shoot up to 142bpm which I was soon able to bring down. Once I was back on course I had decided I would add a extra kilometre on to the run and take my weekly total to 101km for the week. On looking at my stats I was able to keep my HR at a average of 133bpm much lower than I had expected it to be. However my cadence wasn't grate but its something I can work on post Tokyo Marathon. Finally I've got to say I'm loving these AI images of BlazinghRunner @tokyomarathonfoundation. What an absolutely fantastic day today at #AbbeyParkRun, I love meeting these guys and best was running with my good mate @sonriise_ who made a journey up to Leicester especially to meet me and run in our beautiful park. Our crazy runner @lozoshea95 was here today dressed as Chewbaccer, fellow runners @DavidMerrett @marklambell, @chipstar_running @JamesRichards, @Jasdeep Lamsar, @rickyaggarwal34 and few others. The plan was to kind of take it easier now as coming towards the taper stage if my training and my adductor have been sore of late. Had a nice easy warm-up to get to the park, met the gang and off the the startline and boom out of nowhere the whistle went to start. Most of us were not even ready. Set off with the plan to run around 4.20 m/km but again got cought up with the fast runners and had to reign the pace back, but I could see James was itching to go faster I tried to keep a stedy pace alongside him and around the end of the first km I was thinking of slowing down but, no I can't do that so kept pushing and soon got into the rhythm. Next thing you know we on the final stretch and the energy came from no where and got a decent sprint finish in finishing just a second behind James at 20:37, I was the 23rd male to finish and 2nd in my age category VM45-49. Finished the day off after volunteering barcode scanning and then sorting them out, we done a 5k warm down around the park and then headed home doing the 5k LRVPR 206. Was looking to only do a nice easy recovery run today but was busy will calls and meetings, so when I did manage to get out my phone kept ringing during the run and I had to stop to deal with the calls. Then checked the time and it was time to do the school run and took a nice easy run to the school. The original plan was to get 10k Easy Run in at zone 2 level keeping my heartrate nice and low. Recently I've noticed that my HR has been steady and decreasing during my harder longer runs. When I finally got all my things sorted and was able to get out again, I had to start all over again and the plan was to do 10k @ 5.30 m/km and keep my HR between 110 - 137 bpm. I'm glad to say around 99% of this 10k was in zone 2 or below. The crazy thing is my Facebook show me memories of last year and I did a very similar run last year, which can be seen in the last to pictures. The crazy thing my zone 2 was at a much slower pace @ 6.21 m/km almost 2 minutes per km slower than today. Which goes to show that the more you put into something/anything you want, the more you will get out of it. It always feels good to get my running done earlier in the day, but sometimes it just not possible. To get up and out the door with so much to do and plan. Today was supposed to have been a easy run today and threshold training tomorrow but I don't like doing speed sessions on a Friday as Parkrun on Saturday. 😁 Which will be good as missed last week. The plan was; β€’ 10 mins @ 5.25 m/km β€’ 7 mins @ 4.15 m/km (x4) β€’ 2 mins @ 6.15 m/km (x3) β€’ 10 mins @ 5.25 m/km Almost everything went bang on plan with all four intervals on target, 2 above target pace, 1 just below and 1 few seconds off. However, I'm happy with the session as yesterday was quite a hard day with 10k on roads and 7k on treadmill. Also my adductors have tightened up and will need lengthing and relaxing. On my warm down I had to stop, which I very rarely do but today was an exception as a bird of pray few right towards me and over my head. So I stopped to take pictures but had to make video as there was a battle of crows vs hawk (I think) I'll add pictures from video. Late post but today kind of turned into a Running Rest Day with a cheat meal (desert only) day...🀣πŸ₯ž It's Pancake Day and my biggest weakness since I was a little fat kid. So had to keep the tradition alive...😁 Anyway though I had planned a nice easy run down the gym on the treadmill also known as the Dreadmill and a nice spa session things as always didn't quite go to plan and today turned into a running rest day. Today's Long Run was in memory of the late great @kelvinkiptumcheruiyot, the marathon world record holder. Running Chicago Marathon in a crazy 2:00:35 just shy of a sub 2 hour, had he not passed untimely I firmly believe he would of raised the bar further. The aim was to do 24k, with one km for each of his life. I was feeling quite fatigued today due to less sleep than I wanted a my sciatica pain was kicking in throughout the night. I had got my garmin to plan the route and set off with aim to run steady @5:25 m/km. I set off and I felt a bit rusty but soon got going and was following the plan as per my training plan. As I started to get into the swing of the run, I came across my first obstacle, flooded path ways on my regular route. Navigated around the flooded areas and got back on route the the muddy paths at Watermead Park nearly dropping on my bum a few times and muddy new trainers 😑. Kept going bumped into a fellow runner and ran into more flooded paths so had to find a new route and ended up on a busy A road. Not knowing where I was my instinct was to keep running following road signs I knew which would take home. Ultimately got off this A road, and back towards home and a cop car stops me to give words of advice. Regarding dangers on running on the road. I explained I got lost and it was only way I knew to get home. Overall a crazy run experience and I got home safe, so job done. How good does it feel to be out runing after a few days off only a runner can truly know. After my PB at Warwick Half Marathon I was feeling great and even done a 5k recovery run on the day when back home. However, I think the adrenaline wore off and pain in the back kicked in. I know this pain from back in the day it's Sciatica and it makes sitting, laying and walking really hard, especially at bedtime. Had a really good speed / VOΒ² max session today I wasn't expecting to much as I've not ran for few day, so was planning it out in my head how I was going to take it easy and give it my all on the speedy parts and get good recovery in-between. As you can see from the results, I actually surpassed my expectations and hit all my targets, even surpassing them. Intervals 3, 5, 6, 7 and 8 were great. Even though I didn't think I did vert well. My stamina levels post run were very good and I had little fatigue or resting needs. I noticed again I'm struggling to get my HR up enough even though I feel I gave it my all. My max HR was 180bpm and average HR of 141. My cadence was good enough for me hitting high of 203spp and average of 170 over all. "A marathon is hundreds of miles. The finish is the last 26.2." - Unknown Was in two minds today if I should rest & recover, do a 10k Easy Run or have a Easy Recovery 5k Run. I think my legs need a little longer recovery so the plan was 5k easy recovery run. I just want my non runing friends and family to understand that, a marathon is no easy feat and hours of training is required to run 26.2 miles. As if running a hard half marathon wasn't enough for the day, I checked my strava and it was lower than last weeks 97km by 4.2km. So what do I do get my shoes on make a call to my broski and go for a run without my wife knowing. Oh and the Mother-In-Law was over so perfect excuse to get out the house. β˜†β˜† NEW PERSONAL BESTS β˜†β˜† What a fantastic Pre Birthday πŸŽ‚ rewards, at todays Wigley Warwick Half Marathon Race with @runthroughuk, achieving two new Personal Bests today it was my first race of 2024, and third PB of the weekend. New Personal Bests β€’ Half Marathon - 1:34.40 β€’ 10k - 44.24 I knew deep down I would be good and could push for a PB again today, so I set my aim 5 minutes faster then my previous target time (1.39.59 to 1.35.00), knowing anything close would give me a new PB. I didn't only knock the extra 5 minutes of my previous target time. I knocked off an additional 17 seconds off my target time...😁 seconds make a massive difference with only few seconds off my 5k being a sub20. With my Garmin PacePro set to give me target times to aim for. I had a strong feeling I would be able to achieve my goals today. I know the course as I did this run last year and it hilly so wanted to get the lap splits close as possible to the target. Not bad effort if I do say so I managed to get most on target and a few above target so I managed to come in 17 seconds faster than target. It was good to meet a lovely lady from Leicester Runners Facebook page, running along three other guys who were all around the same time as myself and even some runners from my home town ends of West Bromwich & Smethrock. This run has been fantastic for me to gage where I am in terms of my fitness, my running ability and most importantly what my target marathon pace could be for Tokyo Marathon next month. The first kitlay of 2024. I've been bit lazy on this one today, CBA to put all my gear out taking the Alphafly 2s out for tomorrow's Warwick Half Marathon and hopefully bag a new PB 🀞🏽 Training has been good and even though I was running hard today, I've rested good the rest of the day had a good meal and off to bed. Parkrun29 (part 2) Took a little longer to get out of bed today then normal as my stomach was in pain but nothing was going to stop me running today. Had a great warm up run to the startline a little faster than i wanted, but I was in time for briefing and meeting some of running family, Jasdeep, Kuljit, David and Ben amongst the regular volunteer team who do a fantastic job getting these Parkruns on. After smashing my Parkrun but missing out on my sub20 again by 7 or 9 seconds (Depending on which pb you choose 🀣🀣). I got some volunteering done scanning barcodes, followed by Leicester Runners Virtual Parkrun number 115 sorry I mean 204...lol. I finished today with a nice easy 3k Warm Down Run home. I've got to say I really love my running family, everyone is great and polite. Even volunteering I've met some fantastic people. β˜†β˜† NEW PERSONAL BEST β˜†β˜† Parkrun - 20.09 / Garmin - 20.09 / Strava - 20.07 Before I start I've got to give credit where credit is due again. This time this PB was only made possible because of David Merrett. His guidance and advice all the way round was invaluable. He offered to pace me for a sub 20, but I don't think I has the legs for it yet and I had a upset stomach from last night. But will smash it soon with the help of the great guys at #AbbeyParkrun. Again I was indecisive as I have a Half Marathon tomorrow, and my stomach was in knots. I wasn't going to push for a PB really but David offerd to pace me and Jasdeep which was a offer we couldn't turn down. Whistle went as normal bang on 9am and we are off slightly faster than we need to but Dave pulled us back into range looking to do even splits. By the 2nd km I'm normally struggling but David helped me through and I kept the pace closer to the 4.00 m/km. The 3rd km I could feel it and my legs felt heavy but words of encouragement from David kept me going. We got around the ruins and I remember David telling me I've got this and soon we would be done and on way to towards the end of the 4th km and the 5th km he pushed me to finish off strong which is something I love doing and Ashveer Garcha was encouraging me to a strong finish also, I was dying giving it my all and also got a PB in my sprint finish. I'm so close, yet so far from my sub20 but it's coming hopefully next week for my birthday πŸŽ‚. It was great meeting our local residents mascot man Loz O'shea with his Darth Vador costume. Today was a full on Rest Day but I was so tempted to get out for a run today even a easy 5k recovery or with a local run group who do a 8k run the first of every month. But I know my legs would love a day off so it was as full rest day with my standard 10k daily steps. I totally forgot that on Sunday I'm doing a Half Marathon which is a couple of days prior to my birthday and I ran this course last year on my birthday and I really enjoyed it. It very similar to Solihull Half Marathon and just as hilly, and great scenery and support. I'm looking to test my target marathon pace on this run which will better allow me to gage where my fitness is and how realistic my target pace for Tokyo Marathon is. Hopefully I've trained enough to get a PB tomorrow and thank god my hamstring was good after Thursdays speed session. Yes Baby...! Finally got out early today and had a good run session out, was looking forward to today's intervals session. It was supposed to have been done yesterday but due to time I had to switch it today. As many of you probably know by now it's one of my favourite training sessions. The session is normally around 17k but due to time I had to reduce the warm down run down by 1k, nothing I can't make up in tomorrow's recovery run. Today's session plan was; β€’ 5k Warm Up Run @ 5.40 m/km β€’ 45 Sec Run @ 3.40 m/km (x10) β€’ 3 Min Recovery Run @ 5.50 m/km (x10) β€’ 4k Warm Down Run @ 5.45 m/km I actually surprised myself today, firstly I was much more comfortable running my intervals and the pace was much higher than I was aiming for which was more surprising to me. Looking over the run stats, my 1st, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th runs were very much and beyond what was required. However, the 2nd and 9th were not as good as they needed to be, but I think that could be down to over exertion from the run prior or running to fast during recovery run. Bit of a strange one today, these runs were mainly about getting miles in the bag and getting some time on my feet. Got massively late today was supposed to get out for a run in the day but commitments had me delayed and wasn't able to get out early. The original plan was to get some sprints repeats or long interval runs in but it was dark by the time I managed to get out. I had decided that tomorrow's run would get swapped with today's sprint or intervals. The plan started off to just a easy pace 10k done and finish close to home. My legs where really heavy today for some reason and it felt I had to push more effort than normal. However my head was strong enough to push through and get the run done.
