This weekend we will be running a disability surf instructor course with @Surfability_uk and a few spots have opened up. This will be a ISA adaptive instructor qualification that has been funded by my main sponsor @the.mailingroom . This will be a Saturday and Sunday course 9-5 both days. The first half of the day will be at Llanengan Community center then depending on the wind after lunch we will be heading to hell mouth or aberspch Harbour. This will teach you how to help out with transfers from wheelchairs onto the surfboards how to communicate and work as a team. The whole idea of this is to be able to run more than one disability surf days a year here in North Wales. With the success of the last two that we have had with people thinking that it was never possible to the amazing volunteers that has been helping it seems like the right thing to do and get those who want to take part in these days qualified to make it even safer. I have currently got 2 surfboards being made as the ones in these pictures, 2 beachwheelchairs for the area and hopefully in the near future beach mats for wheelchairs users or those who need it to get down to the ocean easier! He thought recovery time was 1 week, turns out it's more like 3 - 4. Our well laid plans of getting in our trail training have gone a bit skew-whiff. We've thankfully managed to book accommodation for the Friday & Sat night in Aberdaron for the ultra, so there are a few options: 1) Adam has a sedate weekend in caravan and I run it alone. Although I've not recce'd any of it. And have severe navigational difficulties. 2) We start together and deal with what happens if Adam needs to pull out at any point. Our accommodation is at the finish line. 🤔 3) I message an insta friend/acquaintance- 'hey aware we've not ever hung out in person but wanna spend up to 18 hours with me and stand guard for around 20 wild wees. Ticket & accommodation all paid for.' Double they'll be any takers. 4) We take it mega easy (Pilgrims stlye). Face facts it will be a long day out. Enjoy the Pilgrims route and pray we can just make it to the finish line. Thankfully there's no cut off. Adam is going on a test run tomorrow 🙃. I've been getting on trail where I can and have been revisiting a S&C plan from some coaching for the Chester 50. Nervous about nutrition and hydration if the temps are high, but hopefully we'll get in a few decent long runs before 8th June. In brighter news I start a new job tomoz, which should bring back some regularity back with training and running in general. It's never straightforward is it, but still we're very grateful for the opportunity to get out all day together (giant thanks to A&K having the kids) and to see what is meant to be a very beautiful part of the country. Sure, we'll have some great conversations along the way too. And if I'm on my own you can be sure I'll end up accosting some poor person to run with for a few hours. TBC...after Adam's test run tomoz. P.S one of my fave things I've done this week is to sit and read all of @toughgirlchallenges posts on her camino de santiago adventure. Inspiring stuff.
