A quick watercolour painting of a sleeping fox. I am pleased with this for two reasons. Firstly, it is not - at least by my standards with watercolour - a complete disaster. Secondly, it is actually painted on the back of a watercolour painting which was a complete disaster, meaning that I have not, after all, wasted a hideously expensive sheet of paper. Perhaps one painting on exhibition depicts the idea of ‘British Isles’ perfectly and that is this one by Alison Walters; Sky over Wormshead 4AW-AW-001 Acrylic and oil on canvas £510 Worm's Head is a headland, at Rhossili, part of the City and County of Swansea, Wales. It is the furthest westerly point of the Gower Peninsula. The name Worm's Head is derived from an Old English word 'wyrm' for 'sea serpent'. ‘The British Isles’ is today’s Artweeks theme @oxfordshireartweeks. And so here is the ancient British hill fort on Blewburton Hill. From this Saturday seventeen exhibitors will open each side of the hill, in Aston Tirrold and Blewbury. That includes two at my thatched cottage, originally a hall house built in very British vernacular style around 1600. A larger studio painting of the Windrush Valley full of cow parsley and buttercups. Based on the plein air study I posted a few weeks back and also a bit from memory and imagination. St Edmund Hall Library Just beside St Edmund Hall Quad sits the church of St Peter-in-the-East. It was converted into a library in the 1970s to house the 40,000 books that cover subjects offered by the hall. I will be at the Old Fire Station Gallery in Henley on Thames today from 10-2. Come along and visit, it would be great to see you! Open from the 4th - 6th May as part of the 2024 Henley Arts Trail... @neverfeltbetter_woolartist @fuzzbeefelts 📍Linda Cookson makes an array of animals and quirky creations using wool, and also creates canvas designs using blendable alcohol pens. The wool is unspun so it’s still in its fluffy form. When pierced multiple times with small needles with nicks in the blade the wool compacts. Linda likes to think both her needle felting and her artwork express her own personal love for whimsical, magical and the downright swirly! She adores colour and curves and makes abstract pictures straight to the canvas. 📍Jane Butler started needle felting in 2017. She enjoys the total concentration needed to avoid stabbing her hands as there is no pattern to follow. The creativity can unfold in surprising ways. The wool fibres are stabbed with one needle to shape and firm, and colours are added and layered on top. Jane generally prefers 3D work and to add character and humour to her pieces.
