I have always enjoyed constructing 3D objects but my main passion is making sculptures. My preferred medium is wood and ceramic and more recently bronze. The first image are exhibits from Jacqueline Nicholas's collection With great skill, Jacqueline creates her sculpture from discarded washing liquid containers and other items such as redundant kitchen hardware, gradually building up the form with papier mache to perfectly capture the essence of these inquisitive sheep ! The second image is of Marjolein Trewavas's Silver pastry cutter windchimes. The soft sound of tinkerling sound will certainly surprise you as you enter our gallery space. Marjolein takes objects that have had a previous life and with great skill and imagination gives them a new purpose. Her windchimes are part of a wider collection featuring jewellery and embroidered textiles. Marjolein mentions “Because I re-use bits and pieces for my work I go to places where I can find and buy these and I have been known to bring home some pretty strange things. SCULPTURAL FIBRE Judith is a mature-aged, self-taught fibre artist whose distinctive sculptural fibre/textile works encourage the viewer to move beyond “thinking outside the box” to a world without a box. Science, natural history, pottery, taxidermy, and literature combine to transport viewers into a world of whimsical, tactile visual surprises and fibre puns. Judith’s reuse / alteration of materials in her studio “Palimpsest” produces new works with visible traces of a material’s earlier form but there also exists images beneath changed designs never seen unless the fibres are deliberately removed. My favorite artwork at the recently concluded @ohopenhouse Kampong Gelam art trail is I will wait patiently for us, 2024 by artist Ezzam Rahman. The installation resided on the second storey of stalwart nasi padang restaurant, @sabarmenantisg , where there are plans to convert the space into a cafe. A keropok tin emblazoned with the word 'Sabar', or 'be patient' in Malay floats in midair, and opens up to an explosion of keropok clouds up in that air. The work tells of a story of serendipity, missed chances and opportunities, loss that we face in life, including what the restaurant owner faced. Love the melancholic footnote that accompany the installation: "We may chart a course, but life is also full of happenstance. Wait patiently, we may one day meet again." BS9 Arts Trail coming soon! Artist Nick Gerolemou will be exhibiting at Venue 4, Stoke Bishop Hall. Nick produces landscape paintings mainly in acrylics, where vibrant colour, simplified forms and a strong sense of perspective are the main elements of his work. He particularly enjoys painting with a limited colour palette and prefers not to get caught up in the details of the subject. Contrast in light and the sense of movement are elements that he likes to capture, which both contribute to the sense of drama in his paintings. 💚🌿“Home Sweet Home”🌿💚 Totally beasted ourselves painting the outside house last weekend while the scaffolding was up for some repair work. This weekend the scaffolding is still here... As much as the wrap around balcony effect has been fun and it’s awesome seeing the garden from up high I kind of need it gone now so I can start the huge tidy up in time for Ashburton Arts Trail ( Info on that in last pics). A little more about Nick: ‘I use photography as a way of exploring my surroundings and try to produce images that show how I feel about a subject rather than what it simply looks like, it’s a way of blurring the lines between art and photography. I find inspiration in the ordinary as well as the spectacular, particularly subjects that most people would pass by without a second glance. My work features layers of images within a single frame, capturing different aspects of a place or subject and combining them to create a new and individual viewpoint. CREATIVE PLEASURE Starting his creative journey upon retirement, Trevor found that he liked what he could create on canvas, using acrylics, oils and water colours, featuring wildlife and birds in particular, enjoying placing them in realistic landscape settings. His other passion is three-dimensional sculpture in timber and box making, taking pleasure in creating individual one-off pieces that others can appreciate and enjoy. This series of paintings continues my interest in the quiet everyday places which speak to my own journeys. Part documentation part rumination they reflect ineffable moments of daily life. The art trail is an opportunity to meet the artist and see work either in the artist’s home or studio or like me, in designated public spaces. The event takes place all over Crouch End in North London and this year we have over 63 artists participating, with work ranging from painting to ceramic and photography. My work can be seen at Caffienate N8, a lovely little cafe at 140 Crouch Hill, N8. Open usual cafe times until 5pm. I will be there later today and tomorrow if you want to swing by and say hello. The work will probably remain in the cafe for a couple of weeks after that. All work is for sale. BS9 Arts Trail coming soon! Artist Paul Tomlinson will be exhibiting at Venue 4, Stoke Bishop Hall. Paul trained as a designer and works on large scale corporate interior projects and major exhibitions, as well as part time lecturer. Paul has recently developed his skills as an artist, and enjoys sketching and drawing on location, and in particular the freedom from technical constraints. Inspired by coastal landscape and mountainous peaks Typically he will sketch whilst out traveling and use his reference material to work on paintings when back in the studio. The freedom of watercolour and its occasional accidents help contribute to the creation of mood and emotion. It is this aspect that Paul likes to explore in his work, as well as simply enjoying the process of painting. Paul has previously exhibited in local art trails and galleries as well as the St Ives painting school.
