I attended the Portsmouth Encampment for Gaza rally this afternoon, where a number of students, alumni, retired lecturers, trade unionists and activists gave some powerful and inspiring speeches. I was asked not to take photos of individuals, a request that I fully respected. Hence photos of some of the signs and banners around the camp instead. Historically, students have often been at the forefront of progressive movements from opposition to the Vietnam war, through support for civil rights to the anti-apartheid movement (to name just a few). По дороге в Псков остановились в городе Остров. Привлекло интересное название этого места. И не зря! Здесь между рукавов реки Великой находится остров, небольшой. И на нëм с конца 14 века находилась Островская крепость - крупное военно-оборонительное сооружение Древней Руси. Как положено в крепости есть и церковь - Никольская церковь построенная в 1542 году. С берега на остров ведут через реку два висячих цепных моста, которые являются уникальным памятником строительной архитектуры. 🚙 Город Остров - моё чудесное открытие в путешествии! 🚙 Город Остров находится в 56 км от города Пскова на реке Великой. 🚙 Основная достопримечательность города - два висячих моста 1853 года создания, уникальный памятник строительной техники и архитектуры! Именно их я и заехала посмотреть! 😍 🚙 Уникальность их в том, что это единственные цепные мосты середины ХIХ века, сохранившиеся на территории России. 🚙 До постройки этих мостов, переправа через реку Великая была паромной, но в связи с созданием тракта "Санкт-Петербург - Динабург (Даугавпилс)", возникла необходимость постройки моста. 🚙 С 1837 по 1846 годы было рассмотрено множество проектов и наконец один был выбран, по которому начали строительство в 1848 году. Но, в результате сильного паводка в 1851 году, строительство моста пришлось прекратить, так как его конструкция оказалась не подходящей. И в 1852 году был выбран проект двух цепных мостов капитан-инженера М.Я. Краснопольского. В 1853 году по мостам было открыто движение. 🚙 А поскольку цепные мосты чувствительны к динамической нагрузке, в год их открытия Главным управлением путей сообщения было разработано специальное "Положение о движении по цепным Островским через рукава реки Великой мостам". 🙌 🚙 В 1944 году при отступлении немецких войск, при взрыве, была повреждена верхняя цепь южного моста. В 1946 году мост был восстановлен. 🚙 А в 2020 году была реставрация мостов, в результате которой, мосты были оснащены красивой разноцветной подсветкой, и теперь, в ночное время они выглядят просто завораживающе! НО... я, к сожалению, в этот раз это не увидела, только на открытках... 😔 🚙 И это весомый аргумент, чтобы вернуться в этот уютный красивый город снова, потому что я просто в него влюбилась! Let's give @homebargains a huge round of applause for their efforts in helping our environment. They've shipped these hideous lumps of polystyrene thousands of miles around the world so they can sell them for peanuts and have them dumped after one use. If we're lucky, they'll be put in (or next to) a bin and sent to landfill. The most likely thing that will happen is that they'll break and be left to pollute our seas. Hundreds of thousands of tiny polystyrene beads added to our waters. Let's all say well done to them.
