Gradually getting a bit more planting done. Rocket in a hanging basket, I always put it in baskets or pots. I got the seed last year from Wilko just before it closed down, the basket has been used for years, the compost is leftover from last year. My quest to feed us as well as grow flowers continues & we have an expanded veg patch. Last year, the peas were fox food 🦊 The geese ate the peas & the fox ate the geese😟 Growing is all about trying again, and growing veg probably more so than flowers. Everything likes to munch fresh veggies! I sowed an early batch of peas & planted them out into the tunnel, resisted cutting them for foliage, and now there are peas for tea. This year they’ve been in their big pots for almost 3 weeks now and have doubled in size in that time. Here’s what I think has made the difference this year. 1. Sticking to @charles_dowding recommended sowing date. 2. Quality of compost, I used @petespeatfree 3. Potting on several times and sooner rather than later everytime. 4. Good drainage as growing in pots. I used 25% perlite 75% compost. 5. Seaweed feed once a week. I’ve been using Seaweed Biostimulant available at @cornishseaweed 6. Using fresh water and not stagnant water from the water butt. 7. This week in the old greenhouse the kids and I got our cucumbers in ( La Diva again this year as they were supreme!) and half of our tomatoes. Sun Gold, Alfresco Plum and something we’ve dubbed Big Mystery as, that’s what it is- a slice of a mystery tomato covered with soil, which sprouted. It was red is all I can say. Yet to go in is Cindel F1, and another French mystery beef tomato, from a friend of a friends French 🇫🇷 grandmother, which I bartered for with some of our plants. The plants are all enjoying some much needed hydration. The garden was so dry that I was having to water less established plants. Unfortunately, the plants are not the only ones loving it. I've been evicting snails from the greenhouse on a daily basis. In the garden, I prefer to leave the ecosystem to balance itself out, but when they are munching my beans or my only surviving courgette then they have got to be moved somewhere they can do less damage. WEEDS!!!! This has got to be the worst thing about having an allotment! Red #cabbages are snuggled in a bed now on Plot 60a. Planted with rotted manure so hopefully they romp away like the cauliflowers are (no pic).
