My hydrangeas are blooming! I transplanted these from a friend’s yard 2 years ago. I knew they wouldn’t bloom last year and was hopeful they would this year. They delivered! So pretty!!
Do you rember these lovely Columbine flowers? Well, they are done blooming and are ready for seed harvesting. You’ll know when seeds are ready when the pods dry and the seeds easily fall out. You can also shake the pods and if you hear rattling (like a maraca), they’re ready! Amazing how many seeds one pod holds!

I don't know how to do things half way, I go all in win or lose. Sometimes that's worked out well for me, sometimes not so much. 🤷🏾♀️ With all the challenges I've faced trying to get this #verticalgarden up & going the way I envisioned it & things not going as planned I'm still happy. Learning to change the plan in the middle to still get it done has been hard, I do NOT like change. However the peace & tranquility I experience when I go out there & see what I've accomplished is so fulfilling. 😌 I'm learning to have a bit more patience & trust the process. This is Early Summer Garden. Early Summer Garden is all things mowed and planted and watered and optimistic. It is looking forward to the future with sky expectations of barbecues, new birds at the feeders, tomatoes, beets, peppers and yes, giant pumpkins. Early Summer Garden is the garden I think about and plan all winter long. Early Summer Garden will be like this for about a month. Then Mid Summer Garden will begin. The grass will be less green but somehow more weedier and longer, I’ll start getting sick of all the maintenance and probably won’t remember planting some of the things that are growing. Then we will move into my actual, favourite garden, the Late Summer Chaos Garden-where nothing has gone to plan, it’s all overgrown, and it’s just way too much work at that point. But the flowers will be in full bloom, I’ll have more veggies than I can eat and even though it’s anarchy and disorganization in plant form it will be at its prettiest. And then, in November, I’ll have a big mess to clean up. And I will start to think again about Early Summer Garden. #gardening #gardens #veggiegardens #growallthethings

I’m so ready for warm temps and sunshine, but this spring rain makes the garden sing. ☔️ I took a little walkabout to admire all the things. 1: Hosta (not sure of the variety but I love it!) 2: Rhododendron (not sure of the name — we cut this down to the ground five years ago and its blooms are better than ever!) 3: Chives by the four-way plum tree 4: Agastache (hummingbird mint): can’t wait for those blooms! 5: Trying to learn the art of flower pots 6: Raindrops on the honeyberry 7: Dart’s Gold ninebark: The electric lime green makes me so happy! 8: Raised bed area: Veggies are ready for the sun and heat. 9: Ranuculus! The anticipation-to-reward ratio in food gardening is very lopsided. First harvests pretty much never meet demand! That said, I often wish I could "just" be a gardener...for a "living," I mean. It's similar to my fantasy that I could be paid to read all the books I do or receive some kind of recompense for spinning wool or pulling weeds; you know, some valuation other than the personal gratification checklist that what I do, and thus what WE do that we enjoy so much, is valued. Even if not monetarily, I mean. Instead I rush back to the house between raindrops because the kid is eager to make biscuits for shortcakes. Morning at the allotment. Things are doing well in general. Planted my sugar snaps. Harvested some herbs and a romaine lettuce for dinner. Tom his peppers are doing great (he is so proud). Summer crops in the raised beds. Doesn’t look like much now but good things coming soon. ✨ Front bed: Two purple tomatillos, red shiso, overwintered garlic, cosmos. Middle bed: Yukon Quest tomato (dwarf!), with a cosmos, Orange Wonder snapdragon, Vietnamese coriander, and some direct-sown Beurre de Rocquencourt bush beans. Back bed: Overwintered Purple Sprouting broccoli. The other raised beds have some lettuces (heading and cut-and-come again) and overwintered broccoli too. Spring is a crazy time of year for us with both kids in baseball and other activities, so I feel like I haven’t given my raised beds as much attention as I’d like. The epic Christmas cactus (Schlumbergera truncata) I inherited last fall is in full bloom! (It is legit 3 feet wide.) I couldn’t believe how beautiful the variegation is on this particular blossom. The plant seems to like its place in front of the south-facing window, which gets some direct sun but mostly blocked by a huge western cedar. The plant has a few different types of colors on it: Fuschia, red, pale pink too. Keeps things interesting! When we moved into our house there were only roses in the flower beds. Whenever someone posted on social media that they were giving away flowers I would jump at the opportunity. All of my irises were freebies from people around were I live. It took a couple years for them to bloom, but the wait was worth it! They’re so pretty!!
