I picked up Jubilee on Friday night and then binged it all through Saturday. It was such an addictive and fast paced adventure. I’m really enjoying sci-fi at the moment, so if you have any recommendations let me know, especially if they’re by Australian authors. Jubilee is an artificial world existing in a parallel universe. It’s the place people go to let loose, with few laws and plenty of attractions to spend your money on. When Detectives Col and Danee are sent to retrieve a body, it should be a quick mission, but with a delay due to an inebriated coroner and a growing attraction between these two, nothing is going to plan. As political unrest escalates on their home planet of Brouggh due to the rising popularity of the Movement 4 Morality party, these two will need to pull out all the stops in a daring rescue mission while being hunted down by those who want them dead. Jubilee was an action-packed page turner of a book. I loved the chase scenes through space, the futuristic technology and Douglas, the AI leader of Jubilee. There were quite a few tense moments where I had to keep reading to ensure everyone was safe, as well as some laugh out loud scenes which added another layer to the story. Although a science fiction adventure at its heart, there were some cosy mystery and espionage elements which I also really enjoyed. My only negative with the book was the romantic relationships which I found a bit too convenient and unrealistic, but this didn’t detract from my overall enjoyment of the story. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2024 📚: 33 Blindsighted (Grant County 1) by Karin Slaughter Honestly I was kinda bummed during the first half of this book because I wasn’t really vibing with it. It was fine, but nothing to write home about. And I’d been wanting to read a Karin Slaughter novel for a long time, so I was especially disappointed. But the second half picked up the pace and I started to enjoy it a lot more. Mysteries are sometimes tricky for me as they often feel kind of straightforward and I tend to get bored, but this one grabbed my attention (at least in the second half 😅🙃). I’m so glad that I ended up enjoying the book overall, and I can now say that I’m on board the Slaughter train (that sounds very violent, but so is the book so it’s fine 😂😂). I’ll definitely be grabbing the next book before long 😊

A novel by an author chose by @gmabookclub for her previous book but an author who was also going to defy the box put on her in terms of genre writing. The return of Ellie Black is quite literally that. It’s when a missing girl suddenly shows up with no info to share and a dissociative state. Each chapter unfolds the mystery as the reader takes in the words of both the detective Chelsy and periodically Ellie. 𝘉𝘰𝘵𝘩 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘶𝘨𝘨𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘵 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘸𝘩𝘰… 𝘰𝘳 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘺…. 𝘐𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯. There’s something so mind twisting about books that teeter between psychological thrillers and the fears that we hold deep inside. Somehow authors tapping in on the terrors that a young woman has but blending in the mind of a killer. What I felt was raw as a woman but also compassion? Does that make sense? 📖BOOK REVIEW BOOK: The Best Lies AUTHOR: David Ellis GENRE: Thriller RATING: 3.5⭐️ PUB DATE: 7/23/24 SWIPE FOR SYNOPSIS ➡️ 💭THOUGHTS Look Closer is one of my all time favorite thrillers. I was so excited to get my hands on THE BEST LIES! Once I started reading, I quickly became a little disappointed. The first half of the book was confusing and hard to follow. I didn’t fully grasp the plot until around the halfway mark. BUT from there I was hooked and really enjoyed the chase to the end. The main character, Leo, was incredibly fascinating…he is a diagnosed pathological liar which that alone was very entertaining. I love thrillers with unreliable main characters and this one definitely hit the mark. The second half of the book was fast-paced, filled with twists that kept disproving my theories and the ending wrapped up nicely. Be sure to check it out! Όλα αυτά μέχρι να την στρατολογήσει το FBI στο naturals program, στο οποίο δουλεύουν ανήλικοι με φυσικά χαρίσματα, όπως το να "διαβάζουν" ανθρώπους και να ανιχνεύουν συναισθήματα και ψέματα με ελάχιστες πληροφορίες. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 2024 📚: 31 Every Last Secret by A.R. Torre This book really reminded me of an Ashley Audrain novel (The Whispers and The Push). You spend a lot of time in the head of some really messed up people, and the whole thing gives a very strong ick. But it’s hard to look away from. This is my second A.R. Torre book this year and I’m really impressed with her writing. She writes characters really well (even if they’re awful 😂), and they don’t feel like cardboard cutouts (as I’ve found is often the case with thrillers). So I would say that yes, I “enjoyed” this book. I was invested in the plot, but repulsed at the same time. It wasn’t super fun, but it was good. You definitely have to be in the right mindset for it, and it’s not the type of book I want to read frequently. But I do recommend it for fans of Ashley Audrain, or fans of dark thrillers.

✧ what’s the last book that has surprised you? ✧ I found out about the Mortal Fates series on a youtube video. And though I don’t remember who the booktuber was, the story seemed interesting enough and it was on kindle unlimited so I decided to download the first novellas that started the series. I read both The Scepter and the Sword in two sittings each. Although they’re easily read in less time than that, I’m just a slow reader. I gave them both 4 stars because I ate them up. The writing is not perfect and it could use quite a bit of editing but the story and the characters gripped me from the beginning. It’s dual POV and there’s politics and magic and traumatized warrior faes warring against corrupt witches and also a fateful romance that has all the complications to bring even more drama to an already dramatic setting. It’s nothing mind-blowingly good but it’s definitely my kind of fantasy romance read and I’m enjoying it so much that I started the trilogy proper this morning with The Crown of Oaths and Curses. {Prophet Song- Paul Lynch} 🕸️ Eilish est une scientifique moléculaire qui mène une vie tout à fait normale. Elle est mariée à Larry, syndicaliste, et mère de quatre enfants. Que faire quand un régime totalitaire s'empare du pouvoir et qu'une guerre civile entre rebelles et gouvernement éclate dans votre rue? Comment réagir quand le gouvernement fait disparaître votre mari et veut enrôler de force votre fils dans son armée ? Partir? Baisser la tête et obéir ? Attendre que la communauté internationale réagisse ? L'écriture oppressante de Paul Lynch, qui n'offre à son lecteur que des paragraphes massifs et peu aérés, contribue à la sensation d'étouffement qui vous envahit face à ce piège qui se referme sur Eilish. La fin du roman amène indéniablement à réfléchir à ce qu'il se passe dans notre monde. Two for Today ✨ Yeah, it’s supposed to be Tuesday but alas, Tuesday today is not so today it shall be. Authors who manage to calm the ideas in their heads long enough to write a swoon worthy romance but also write a gripping thriller - different league. These two were my first books by the author and although I’d easily pick the boyfriend candidate as my favourite of the two (hear hear, romance lover), I am impressed and blown away by Ashley’s ability to write both genres and execute them both seamlessly. The Boyfriend Candidate follows shy, seemingly introverted Alexis playing the role of fake girlfriend to Logan through his gubernatorial election campaign. The Last Housewife follows Shay as she leaves her quintessential household to return to her haunting past in search for answers about her missing (and possibly dead) university friends. One of these two books, if not both, are bound to be right up your alley! Book Mail ✨ As a bookstagram account, guess it’s no surprise that my favourite type of mail comes in the form of books, bookish items and PR packages. These two packages from @eviesterling.cleanromance via @haylingbookstorm did not disappoint. First and foremost, let’s talk about how airheads really never made a reappearance once they disappeared 10 yrs ago? I’ve got two now and a newly refreshed memory of how awesome they were. Also, who authorised the disappearance of LipSmackers?! Strawberry flavoured smackers are the best snacks out there 😉 Loaded with lots more goodies like a fluffy open, heart shaped post it notes, stickers for days and wholesome book sleeves, these packages were the sweet creations. Thank you, @eviesterling.cleanromance for the signed copies of your books! They are in my short term TBR but I’m sure they’re as sweet as the airheads and smackers combined.
