Week recap 🏙️ I’m not gonna lie, leaving Santa Catalina has been a shock. Only 1.5 months in a place completely changed my lifestyle and view of traveling. I did enjoy so much the slow life there that I’m pretty sure I’m going to continue slow traveling more from now on. 💆🏻♀️ I also wish I could have had more time in Panama. I found out so many places that are worth to be visited, but that not many know about! 🤩 Plus the connections I made while volunteering now allow me to have friends around the whole country! 🇭🇳🇳🇮🇸🇻 Took a 17 hours Tica bus ride from Managua, Nicaragua to EL Salvador, traversing Honduras Territory in between. Fellow passengers were mostly locals, as this was a public route\bus service. Crossing land borders excite me. Though it can be scary at times; especially with language barrier (People in the border control of Nicaragua and Honduras barely spoke English. Mainit pa ang ulo ng iba..katakot). In addition, our third world passport may bring us to inner immigration offices for further questionings. The last photo shows the shady room where I was brought in for further steps (and payment). It's good that Tica bus was patient enough to wait for me, as my crossing took a little more time than others. Filipinos with Valid US or Canadian Visa can enter Nicaragua, Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador Visa Free. However, small amounts (in USD) shall be paid upon entering. • Flores, Guatemala • We were only here for two nights. We snuck this one in before we had to get to Antigua for a Volcano Hike. Two nights so we could get a Tikal Tour in but that also meant we missed out on exploring the town. We stayed on Flores Island in a cute little hotel that we found on booking.com It was right on the lake so definitely had some beautiful sunsets & scenic views whilst journaling. Without knowing we were here when they had a festival on so got caught up in copious amounts of fireworks 🎇 but it was fun! We found it was also a bit cheaper than the previous places we had been so bonus for us! • Tikal National Park • We were on a bus from San Ignacio, Belize to Flores, Guatemala when our driver told us they offered tours to Tikal which was a bonus for us! (Less planning!) Flores was the home base to do the Tikal tour for us. We had a 2:30am start to catch the sunrise but sometimes Mother Nature has different plans. We missed the sunrise due to the fog, but the early start was still 120% worth the experience! The rainforest was insane, the temples were insane as well as the the wildlife here. Kostaryka to moje największe zaskoczenie w tej podróży! Już tu o tym wspomnałam, jak to przekonana byłam, że Kostarykę zadeptali amerykańscy turyści, a że tłoku nie lubię w podróżach chyba najbardziej, to plan był - szybko przejechać przez tę okropną Kostarykę, żeby niepotrzebnie nie tracić czasu i pieniędzy. O jak bardzo się myliłam! Sprawdzają się tu stare dobre zasady- "trzeba się samemu przekonać jak jest" - i może najważniejsze - "zejść z utartego szlaku". Dość popularne miejscówki typu La Fortuna, Monteverde, Uvita jakoś nie skradły mojego serca (a i tak ominęłam całe najbardziej turystyczne wybrzeże!), ale za to wszystkie, które znalazłam sobie sama, bez polecajek z blogów, grup na fejsie itd. były CUDNE! Mój stary dobry sposób - spójrz na mapę, znajdź jakaś plażę, która ma ładne zdjęcia, ale nie ma za dużo ocen i tam idź - sprawdza się doskonale! I to chyba jest kwintesencja najlepszych momentów w podróży - nie jechać tam, gdzie wszyscy mówią, żeby jechać, tylko ODKRYWAĆ! A dodatkowy plus odkrywania jest taki, że jak nie ma tego hajpu, to zaskoczenia mogą być głównie na plus. Bo kurde przyznajcie się, komu nie zdarzył się mega zawód polecaną w necie miejscówką? Costa Rica ~ Volunteering on the Pacific Coast! 🌴🌊 When we volunteer throughout our travels, it's like a vacation for us. It means we can unpack our bags and relax in one place. We don't need to look for wifi to search bus schedules or a place to stay. We can take advantage of things like a full kitchen and sometimes even a washing machine. It's gorgeous. We spent two wonderful and calm weeks with our host Sharon, building a nursery from bamboo and crafting a new staircase to our jungle treehouse home. 🌿 From our porch we could watch monkeys swinging through the trees, we could observe tucans, agoutis, iguanas, amardillos and an array of colorful birds and butterflies. And we wished we could have bottled up the scent of the flowers and taken it with us. It was pure magic. 🐒🦜🌺 We were fortunate enough to have access to the guesthouse's small pool which wasn't being rented out. [Antigua, Guatemala] 🇬🇹 Mein letzter Stopp in Guatemala. Antigua hat mir so gut gefallen, dass ich hier gleich 2x war. Neben vielen kleinen Gässchen und Restaurants ist Antigua auch der Ausgangspunkt für den Acatenango Hike oder für Hobbitenango. Da ich ein riesen Herr der Ringe/Hobbit Fan bin war der Besuch von Hobbitenango unglaublich cool für mich. Es ist zwar super Mini dort, war aber dennoch einen Besuch wert. San Blas Islands, It was only after doing some research into Panama where I learnt about these group of islands. The San Blas islands is an archipelago comprising of 365 islands, home to the native people known as the Kuna’s. I had the most magical 4 days exploring these islands by boat, sleeping in hammocks and learning about the Kuna Yala Culture.
