I thought the Guggenheim Bilbao was a masterpiece. It really drew me in! 🖼️😆 While dogs (with the exception of service dogs) aren’t allowed to visit the inside of the Guggenheim Bilbao, there are several outdoor works of art you can check out on the exterior that make the museum worth a visit with your dog. 1️⃣ Maman is an almost 9 meter high sculpture of a spider by artist Louise Bourgeois. This is the biggest and most ambitious of a series of spider sculptures Bourgeois created as a tribute to her mother, who was a weaver. 2️⃣ Tall Tree & The Eye by sculptor Anish Kapoor has 73 spheres anchored around several axes. Check out the reflections of the city and La Salve Bridge in the spheres. 3️⃣ - 4️⃣ Puppy by Jeff Koons is a must when visiting Bilbao with your dog! The 12.4 meter tall Westland Highland Terrier is carpeted in 60,000 flowering plants. Puppy was created as a symbol of love and happiness. 5️⃣ Fog Sculpture #08025 (F.O.G.) by Fujiko Nakaya. She is the first artist to have worked with fog as a sculptural medium and F.O.G. is considered the world’s first fog-based sculpture. The pond releases fog for 8 minutes every hour from 10am to 8pm daily. In addition to F.O.G., you can also find Fuente de Fuego by Yves Klein. It’s hard to see in this video, but the fire fountain was also being tested while the fog was released. Normally the fire fountain can be seen from 7pm - 8pm in winter and from 9pm - 10pm in summer. And, of course, the Guggenheim Bilbao building itself is considered a work of art. Designed by Frank Gehry, it’s possible to walk around the entire building to admire it from different perspectives. One of the most characteristic features is the metal flower skylight crowning the Guggenheim. Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya contacted cloud physicist Thomas Mee in 1969 in a search to find the technology required to create her first fog art installation. Thomas Mee had recently created MeeFog, a breakthrough in generating pure water artificial fog — for his own personal research purposes. The technology was then used to achieve Nakaya’s vision to enshroud the Pepsi Pavilion at the 1970 World Exposition in Osaka with an ethereal fog, marking Nakaya the first artist to sculpt a fog environment. Fujiko Nakaya dedicated her artistic journey to exploring water and everyday weather phenomena. *50 Jahre KUNSTFORUM – der große Rückblick* Zerstörte Natur, Ressourcenknappheit, Artensterben, fortschreitender Klimawandel und die Erkenntnis, dass die Erde kein lebloser Gegenstand zur Bedürfnisbefriedigung des Menschen ist: Unsere wachsende Auseinandersetzung mit dieser Problematik wird geprägt von der Wahrnehmung einer sich verschlimmernden Katastrophe und den damit verbundenen Ängsten und Sorgen. Das moderne Landschaftsbild in der Kunst zeigt einen Perspektivenwechsel: Statt romantischer Gefühle gibt es eine düstere Dramatik, die eine zerstörte Erde als zerbrechliche Realität zeigt. Im Einführungsessay des KUNSTFORUM Bands 284 “Zur Aktualität des Landschaftsbildes” betrachtet Ann-Katrin Günzel die Vielfalt der künstlerischen Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema Landschaft. Dabei wagt sie eine Reise durch die Kunstgeschichte, denn mit der Veränderung der Landschaft verändert sich auch der Blick auf das Landschaftsbild selbst. Misty mornings are magical at the Louisiana Children’s Museum. Many visitors arrive to the museum and its eight-acre campus via a boardwalk crossing a lagoon in New Orleans City Park. A cloud sculpture designed in collaboration with Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya envelopes the entry boardwalk in a periodic mist, creating an inspirational and immersive water experience as part of the arrival sequence. The new campus presents a transformative model for children’s museums, one that weaves together indoor and outdoor learning opportunities along with literacy, parenting, early childhood research and environmental education activities to create a holistic and supportive environment for children and their families.
