Sometimes, in our eagerness for God’s word, we may unintentionally hurt others by the way we put forth truth. In 1 Peter 3:15, we are called to give an answer for our faith with gentleness and respect. If we are trying to correct a fellow believer in Christ, Galatians 6:1 also tells us to restore them in a spirit of gentleness. If he or she does not respond positively to correction, we are still to be kind and patient with them (2 Timothy 2:24-25).
God’s heart for people is that they are led to repentance by knowing the truth. If we are to be His mouthpiece, then we must use God’s method of being gentle and not overbearing. Once the truth is conveyed, the Holy Spirit will work in their hearts. Every time we pronounce God’s word to others, it is a test for ourselves if we are speaking in love or harshly. When we lack wisdom, God gives His wisdom from above when we ask. It takes practice before we get it right but we should not shy away from being tested; God is helping us to grow spiritually too. 🌱
