Your blood is sacred. Your blood is powerful. Your blood is ceremony. Wombholder. Giver of life. A time for slowing down and resting. We bleed with the phases of the moon. Our ancestors knew this, and our blood was honored.

Deep in the Amazon rainforest, the Tikuna Tribe has a unique way of commemorating first bleeds: When a young girl has her first cycle, she is sent to live in a house alone for one year. She’s only allowed one visitor: her grandmother. In that time, her grandmother teaches her many traditional skills: weaving, identifying medicinal plants, and caring for families.

When the year is over, the entire tribe gathers in a procession to lead the young woman back to the maloka, a central structure where ceremonies are held. She is completely covered from head to toe with a black pigment, which is then removed during the Pelazon Ceremony when she is “revealed” to the tribe as a woman. The celebration is three days of rituals, dancing, and feasts, and men offer hunted animals to the girl's family as a sign of respect.

The Pelazon Ceremony teaches us to honor not only our first bleed, but every cycle we go through– just as our mothers and grandmothers have before us.
Take time during your next bleed to speak with your mother, your aunt, your grandmother (you may be surprised by the wisdom they hold). 🌙
.
.
.
#ancestralways #ancestralteachings #moonlodge #redtent #moontent #sacredblood #sacredbleed #bloodceremony #bloodritual #wombholders #lifegiver #sacred #yoni #ancestralwisdom #ancestralknowledge #lunarcycle #mooncycle #moontime #pelazon #pelazonceremony #womban #wombman

The Pelazon Ceremony teaches us to honor not only our first bleed, but every cycle we go through– just as our mothers and grandmothers have before us.
Take time during your next bleed to speak with your mother, your aunt, your grandmother (you may be surprised by the wisdom they hold). 🌙
