you think i’m not supposed to be angry
i saw a patient wheeled in
all bloody and mangled
not a new sight
i instantly calculated just how much iodine i would need
how much disinfectant
i gathered that this person’s clothes will have to be cut from his body because his arms are rendered useless
his bone is jutting out of his forearm
his other arm is twisted in all the wrong places
his calf is almost severed
i gaze at the wound on his side and the blood marring his face
i start to clean him up
i know it is not possible to save someone with such a deep wound
i stagger a step back
i am glued to the floor
my eyes cannot stop tearing up
this is my father
doctors are operating on people
and finding out it’s their loved ones
